Better Acquainted
August
"Aye who shawty is?" Kevin asked as he made him a drink.
"The preacher's daughter." I continued to stare in her direction as she talked with her friend.
"Bruh seriously? She don't look like she is no damn preacher's daughter."
"She is and I don't need them kind of problems in my life. She bad, but she ain't bad of enough for me to fuck with her like that. I may flirt with her to make her want me, but that's it."
"So you don't want no good girl like her."
"Man just cause she the preacher's daughter don't mean she no damn saint. PK's kids seem to be tha' worse. Don't let their Amens and Praise God's fool you."
"I hear ya, but she seems different. She better than them ho's that be tryna get cause you got a bank roll."
"True, but they ain't the preacher's daughter either."
"Well my nigga I'm about to go mingle and see which one of these broads coming home with Kev tonight."
"A'ight bruh." I dapped him up and noticed Callie coming my way.
I sighed because she was always trying to make this something when its not. All she is, is somebody to relieve some stress and that's it. She makes sure to let a nigga know what that mouf do.
"Hey baby." She said as she ran her hands up and down my chest.
"Wassup?"
"Hopefully you daddy." She grinned and I smirked because thirsty season passed and she has officially moved to dehydration season.
"Look Callie, a nigga just tryna chill ta'night. So find you somebody else to play with." I walked around her and mingled with my goons.
As I mad my way over to my niggas I caught sight of Summer. I had to admit that she was beyond beautiful and I could see an innocence about her, but even still I didn't have time for emotional entanglements. I knock'em down and keep it moving. Callie though was a different story. I kept her around cause she knew what to do and how to do it.
Summer must have felt my intense stare because she looked up at me and smiled. She seemed to be one of those too nice girls and with my image and background I knew that she wasn't ready for a nigga like me.
Summer
I held August stare and I was transfixed into a deep place by the depths of his eyes. His eyes told a story of pain, heartbreak, and disappointment. I could tell that he didn't open up and trust nobody, but I also sensed that he had a good heart.
"Summer are you listening to me!" Lauren yelled over the music playing.
"Oh...Uh...What were you saying?"
"Never mind because apparently August got you attention. Let me find out you crushing on him."
"Crushing on who?"
"Summer don't play dumb. You know who."
"I think that he is a nice guy, but he is so blunt. I mean he has like no filter."
"That's just how he is. I don't know him like that, but I know that he can be very blunt."
"See Lauren I am not used to that."
"Maybe something different is good for a change. You never know, y'all could be the best of friends."
"Ha! Lauren, I can tell his definition of a friend is one that will satisfy his sexual needs and that is not me."
"Nobody said anything about that, but ain't nothing wrong with have a platonic friendship with a man, a fine ass man at that."
I noticed Lauren was looking over my shoulder and I frowned in confusion.
"Can I steal ya girl away fa' a lil minute?" I heard him say to Lauren.
"Sure. I see somebody I need to talk to anyway."
I turned and looked at August over my shoulder and I had to admit that the lord blessed him and took his time creating him. I extended his hand and I hesitantly placed my hand in his.
I made eye contact with him right away because I felt a strong vibe from him that wasn't bad, but I didn't know if that was a good thing. He led my through the crowd and I looked up into Callie's angry face.
I already knew that all hell was going to break loose. I was waiting on it. We headed down a long hall and the music faded somewhat as we entered this room. He hit the lights and it was a beautiful game room. There was a pool table a big flat screen television mounted to the wall. I saw a picture of a guy that resembled August and wondered whose house this was because it was beautiful.
"August whose house is this?"
He smiled and walked farther in the room. He sipped from his drink and looked down at me.
"I take it that you like this house."
"Yes. Actually is beautiful. The whole décor and layout is amazing." I looked around the room in awe."
"Well I'm glad that you like it. Its actually my house."
"Really. Well you got taste and mad style, but just looking at you I wouldn't expect anything less."
"Hmm, is that right?"
"Yes it is. Tell me August, why did you bring me in here?"
"Because I wanted ta' talk ta' you and become better acquainted with you. Is that gon' be a problem Miss Summer."
"No, but I'm no fool. You just like any other man which means you want something. So tell me August what do you want?"
"Nothing."
"Why don't you tell the truth and shame the devil."
August
I stared at her for a long moment because she didn't realize that I was the devil. I couldn't shame who I already was. I had done things in my past that would make the devil himself run.
"Summer I can't shame who I already am. I am the devil and I have done things that I'm not proud of, but I did what I felt was best at the time."
"Well even still I can tell that you are a good person and you don't trust because people were not who they portrayed to be. All you need is somebody that really cares and will be there for you. Just pray and ask God for that person and I promise he will answer your prayers."
I looked at her shocked because I have never heard anything like this from any female and this meant a lot to me. Now this makes me rethink this whole playing with her thing. She seems to be a really good girl and knowing my back ground she don't need nobody like me tempting her into doing bad things.
"Let's get back to the party." I grabbed her hand and led her back out.
It was something special and unique about her besides her being the preacher's daughter, but a nigga like me didn't have time to figure out. She need someone like her that could give her the happily ever after.
She simply deserved the best and she deserved to be loved and cherished like a queen and I wasn't in the market for commitments and emotional entanglements.
Excuse mistakes!
