NEW MESSAGE FROM RIN

Rin:
7:43 - Oi Haru, I was wondering if maybe you'd like to... Get dinner with me sometime?

Haru:
7:43 - sure!
7:44 - as long as I can have mackerel.

Rin:
7:47 - haha! What ever you want Haru :) How about Saturday? 8:00?

Haru:
7:50 - sure.

Rin:
7:52 - I'll come by your place

He inhaled sharply as he read the last message. Makoto put the phone down, not knowing what to say. He had only been talking to Rin as a joke. Haru's phone was just laying there unlocked, how could he resist? And now he just made a date for Haru on Saturday. He couldn't tell Haru, he just couldn't. Haru's icy glare was already bad enough without making him mad. Makoto took a deep breath, there was another reason he didn't want to tell Haru about the date. Makoto had wished that it was him that Rin was asking on a date. For a brief moment, Makoto had forgotten it was Haru's phone and immediately said yes. He couldn't back out after saying that and so he made the date for Haru. It was Rin's fault really, who asks someone out on a date in a text message?

But the date was set and he couldn't back out of it without hurting Rin or telling Haru. This was bad. But maybe he could still fix this. Makoto decided to wait long enough for it to seem like Haru told him about the date and then he'd talk to Rin about it. It was a horrible plan but he'd go through with it anyway.

Makoto:
8:17 - just talked to Haru :)

Rin:
8:19 - he told you about Saturday didn't he?

Makoto:
8:19 - yeah
8:19 - I hope you're not mad!

Rin:
8:23 - I guess I'm not surprised, if he was gonna tell someone, he'd tell you

Makoto just looked at that last message, he wasn't really sure how to feel. He couldn't figure out Rin's tone from the way he texts. Finally, Makoto wrote:

Makoto:
8:27 - are you ready for Saturday?

Rin:
8:30 - well yeah.

Makoto:
8:31 - are you sure?
8:31 - Have you been on a date before?

Rin:
8:33 - well not exactly.....

Makoto:
8:33 - well then you're gonna need practice.

Rin:
8:35 - practice? Are you saying that I should go on a date with someone before I see Haru Saturday?

Makoto:
8:36 - exactly.

Rin:
8:36 - that's crazy.

Makoto:
8:36 - well it's not like it'll be serious and it's not like you have to find a stranger...

Rin:
8:38 - well who would I do this with?

Makoto:
8:38 - I could help you if you want...

Makoto looked at the time stamp for his last message. He had replied too soon. It made it obvious that he wanted to go on the date with Rin. It made him look a little desperate. But within seconds, Rin responded.

Rin:
8:38 - fine. Since this is your idea, you can help.

Makoto:
8:39 - alright then! Come by my place Friday. 8:00.

Rin:
8:40 - haha! Whatever you say!

Makoto's green phone fell out of his hands. He didn't quite believe what just happened. Not only did he arrange a date for Rin and Haru, but he was going to go on a practice date with Rin. How did this happen? Despite how funny it all sounded, Makoto was definitely glad that he'd be going on a date with Rin, even if it was more of a joke. But somehow, Makoto got the feeling that Rin would still take it seriously and that made Makoto all the happier.

As Makoto picked up his phone, Haru came back in the room. He had used Makoto's shower after they played video games with Ren and Ran. Haru must've seen the guilty look on Makoto's face because he asked, "What happened?"

Makoto just closed his eyes and smiled, he could feel his cheeks turning red. "Nothing," he said lightly.
