#12. History
I had so many thoughts running through my mind at that moment.
What did the prophecy mean?
Why was I in it?
And lastly what is a weak little human like me going to do anything big enough to stop a war?
" You're not a human, my dear but have lived like one", Cindy rasped snapping me out of my thoughts.
"What do you mean by that?", Natalie asked the witch itching to know what information the witch was withholding from the both of us.
The witch's eyes gleamed with excitement causing me to feel suddenly uneasy and like I was dangling off a cliff side with no one around.
And I hated that feeling. The feeling of knowing that you can't do anything to help with something that is unknown to you.
Cindy sighed. " I knew your mother".
Suddenly the old but wise witch had all of my attention.
" What do you mean you knew my mother? I don't have any parents or family at all?", I told her confused yet yearning to know more.
" Your mother and I were great friends, always getting into trouble but your mother somehow getting us out of it effortlessly. Adelaide looked exactly like you".
" Stop telling us little bits of information and get on with it!", exclaimed Natalie also wondering what happened.
The witch glared at Natalie for a minute before letting out a huff. " Fine, I will tell you everything that I know".
" Adelaide was a human when we met. She had long curly brown hair and green eyes along with a pale freckled face. At the time I was only 11 summers old while she was 10 summers old. We met in the forest, this very forest almost 20 years ago. She had been the only one that had survived a vampire attack out of her family. She was half dead by the time I had found her. She was lost in her thoughts letting death win. But I didn't let her die that easily. I couldn't it was like something inside of me wanted to protect her with my life".
" I sat down next to her and talked to her for a little, wanting her to trust me. Which she did. I took her to the lake, to wash off and get a drink. After that the two of us gathered berries and nuts. Then a few days later she got the idea of building this cabin that we are standing in this very moment. I agreed with her and over the next 8 weeks we started to build. But one afternoon when I was 21 summers old and she 20 summers old, she went missing leaving no trace for me to try to track her down with. She came back 4 months later exhaustion clear on her face. As soon as she saw me she broke down in tears telling me that she had been kidnapped by a tribe of rouge vampires and that they fed from her almost every night. And when I thought things couldn't possibly get any worse she blurted out that she was expecting. Expecting a child of one of the prisoners that the rouges had locked up".
" I was stunned and your mother terrified of the fact that there was a creature rapidly growing inside her womb. She begged me to end her, but I refused. I told her that she made the bed and she was going to lie in it. Your mother was so angry with me that she wouldn't even talk to me or look me in the eyes for a week straight. But after that week she thanked me for not letting her end her or the child's life. The last two months of her pregnancy went by smoothly, and took a turn for the worst when she had suddenly fallen ill. At that time she had also went into labor. It was awful. She was screaming at the top of her lungs and crying in agony. A few hours later she gave birth to a small but healthy baby girl".
Cindy was silent for a moment before continuing the story.
" Your mom named you Adeline Avery Haynes. When you were a few days old Adelaide packed a small bag of things and told me that she was going to go find your father. We stayed in touch for a few months before suddenly I didn't hear from her again".
Cindy was trying to hold back her tears showing how much she actually cared about my mother. They were really close.
" That's all I know".
