Part 6 The Arrival
The Capital came in a jet. Joanna had never seen a jet before, after the Capital deemed them harmful to the environment. Now, only a few jets existed and were used for very important Capital tasks only. To ride in one is an honor many people have never experienced, but Jo hated it. She didn't feel safe in gigantic mass of metal flying, and she didn't even know how it flew. It just seemed to get worse after they left the ground. Joanna was afraid of heights.
It took about three hours to reach the Capital. Three gut-wrenching hours of fear. But when she stepped out of the jet, she was struck with awe. The city was huge. Some buildings looked bigger than her whole town, some even twice the size. A Capital Official saw Joanna in her trance and smirked, probably used to outsider's reactions.
The Official said, "Miss Weber, welcome to the Capital of Safe Haven. I will lead you to your living quarters. The first test you will be given will start tomorrow at noon. At that time I will come to escort you the proper room. Until then, you can make yourself at home. Do you have any questions?"
Joanna politely said no and followed the Official through the streets. As she traveled around the city, she became even more astonished. The buildings where completely beautiful. But is seemed too soon when Jo arrived at her living quarters. The Official nodded to signify they were there and left. Joanna walk through the door and for the third time that day, she was stunned. The house was filled with gorgeous furniture, the walls decorated in antique wall paper and was just plain beautiful.
While staring into space stupidly, another girl about Joanna's age walked out of a room and smiled at her.
"Are you Joanna Weber?" Without replying, she continued, "They said you would be a bit late. Come with me! I'll show you to your room!"
They barely started walking when the girl continued, "So, what area are you from?"
Joanna quietly muttered, "The West States...."
"I'm from Golden States," She chuckles, "Well, this is your room. If you need anything, my name's Natasha."
Joanna simply nodded as she watched Natasha walk away. She opened the door to her room and nearly fainted. The room looked bigger than her whole house! In the middle of the room was a gigantic bed (Queen size? King size?) with soft black and white striped sheets and an elegant white headboard. To the side of the bed was a large nightstand that went up to about her waist (and maybe twice as wide), adorned with a white lamp and a lampshade that matched the bed sheets. On the other side of the bed there was a door to her own private bathroom. Everything was spotless. The end of the room held a great window, with a view like no other. On the other wall, there was a closet that was so big she could probably sleep in it, without feeling cramped.
Joanna laid her bag on her bed and started to unpack. All seemed well, when she heard the sound of feet walking swiftly on the hard wood. Joanna paused. She would have gone to investigate, when someone knock on her door.
