Part 1 The Test
Joanna waited in class as the instructor droned on and on. It was tiring listening to the same speech at the beginning of every year. World in desolation...blah blah blah...Peace Keeper's sacred duties...blah blah blah.... It was all the same. So instead of even acting like she was paying attention, she started sketching pictures of what she thought the Peace Keeper's stone looked like. Surely, if it was about peace it would be heart shaped, and maybe some lovey dovey color like pink.
Suddenly whispers rang out through the lecture hall.
"Do you really think the Peace Keeper's resigning?"
"I heard he was getting old and loony."
"Who do you think will be chosen?"
Joanna put her pencil down with a look of question on her face. She leaned over to Olivia.
"What's going on?"
"Were you paying any attention? The Peace Keeper's resigning. Someone from the school will be chosen to take his place!" She said with a face full of excitement.
"Settle down everyone!" The instructor silenced us, "I know that this is big news for everybody! The Peace Keeper has developed a test that every student, yes, every student over the age of 15 is required to take." A soft groan fills the halls. "The test will take place over the course of a few weeks, so your pre-scheduled classes will be canceled until the test has been fully completed." Joanna frowned as cheers erupted from the hall.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Olivia asked with concern.
"What? Oh, nothing" Joanna tried to assure her.
But something felt very wrong. Why had the Peace Keeper decide to resign? And why now?
