Secrets Almost Revealed

Lindsey's POV

Monday arrived quickly and before you know it I was on my way to school. I'm not excited about going to school at all. I thought my brother would've been cool and let me skip it, but he told he wants to be more responsible. My brother is basically a man-child in some ways.

"Come one kiddo, cheer up." My brother told me, making me roll my eyes. I gave him an emotionless expression and he sighed.

"You'll be fine." He assured me, turning into the parking lot of the school. I grabbed my backpack and looked at my brother.

"Can't you homeschool me?" I asked my brother with pleading eyes and he just laughed. I pouted and opened the door.

"Nice try. See ya later." He waved at me as I exited the car. I gave him a wave and closed the door, slinging my backpack over my right shoulder. I watched my brother back out of the parking space and drive away.

Hiddenville High. Let's see if you're worth a shot.

I headed for the school entrance and I tried my best to avoid other at the moment. Later, I will try to make friends but right now I just want to make it through without embarrassing myself.

Once I made it inside, I grabbed my schedule from my bag and my locker number. My eyes wandered around the lockers in front of me and they stopped on my locker.

I went up to it and opened it without a problem. Unusually for me because I normally have a difficult time opening a locker. I shoved my books inside and glanced at my schedule once again to see what class I have first. It was Art.

I actually enjoy art, it's one of my favorite subjects. I've been told I'm an amazing artist.

I grabbed my sketchbook from my locker before closing. I let out a yelp when I saw a figure right in front of me. It was Max, the boy I met when I moved in on Friday.

He was leaning against the lockers, smirking at me. "Hey."

"Hi, Max." I greeted, averting my eyes from him. He's cute and all, but I'm not in the mood to talk to him.

"So, you need help getting to class?" He questioned me with a sense of hope in his voice. It was small but noticeable. "Because I will gladly help you."

"Depends on what class you have first." I reasoned, glancing up at him.

"Art." He responded and I sighed.

"Fine." I agreed and I saw him grin satisfied. Max motioned me to follow him and I followed him to class. Max is good at hiding it but I know he is happy about me agreeing with this. Empathy is an awesome power to have.

"So, how come you moved to Hiddenville?" Max suddenly asked me.

"My brother got a job here and I couldn't stay with my father," I responded honestly.

"How come?" He asked, genuinely curious.

"My father is in the navy and wanted me to live with my older brother," I explained and Max nodded. Not exactly true, but it's similar to the truth.

"Cool," Max said. Max opened the door to the Art room and we walked in. The teacher wasn't here yet, but some students were here in their seats. I noticed Phoebe, Max's sister, was here as well.

Phoebe turned her attention to us and her face lit up when she saw me. She motioned me to join her and approached her smiley self.

"Hey, it's Lindsey right?" Phoebe asked and I nodded. "You can join me."

I was about to when Max appeared next to me, stopping me from doing so.

"Lindsey, you can join me. I'll make sure to keep you company." Max wrapped an arm around me and I shrugged it off. He winked and I rolled my eyes.

"Max-"

"Sorry, Max. I'm gonna stay here with your sister instead." I apologized, putting my bag down next to Phoebe's, who made a face at her brother. I giggled and turned to Max, who had already gone to spot.

"Sorry about my brother, he's super annoying." Phoebe apologized and I chuckled, not caring.

"Don't worry about it. I have an annoying brother myself." I told her.

"Your brother is really cute though," Phoebe mentioned and I groaned in disgust.

"He's twenty," I informed her and she scoffed.

"Age is just a number."

I nudged her playfully and we both chuckled at her statement. I think I just made a new friend.

----

School had flown by today. Phoebe and I are basically best friends now and I met her friend, Cherry. Cherry is very cheerful and funny and I seem to get along with her as well. Max seemed to have left me alone as the day went on and I was relieved he left me alone, but at the same time, I wished he didn't. It's confusing.

After school, I walked back home by myself. Daniel is still working and couldn't pick me up, but I didn't mind walking home. It's not that far of a walk anyway.

Speaking of Daniel, my phone began to ring and it was him. I answered it immediately.

"Hey Daniel." I greeted.

"Hey baby sis, just calling to say I will be home in a few hours."

"Okay. I'm just walking home." I responded.

"Alright, I'll see ya later."

"Bye." I hung up and put my phone away. I heard something strange behind me and I snapped my body around. Nobody was there.

I turned back around to find someone standing in front of me. I yelped in fear and punch the person in the fist. The person grabbed his nose and fell to the ground in pain.

I stood there in shock and realized who it was and gasped.

"Max! I'm so sorry!" I frantically apologized and kneeled down next to him.

He groaned in pain and held his nose. "It's fine. My fault."

"Still I'm so sorry." I apologized again, feeling guilty.

Max let go of his nose and it was black and purple. Dang, I did that?

"You may be only five feet tall but you sure can punch," Max stated, making me chuckle. I helped him stand onto his feet and carefully dabbed his nose. He flinched and I sighed.

"Are you okay?" I asked him, concerned.

Max nodded. "Yeah. My nose just hurts a lot."

I noticed my house was close and got an idea.

"Come to my house and I will help you." I offered Max, who agreed.

I grabbed Max's hand and pulled him toward my house. I'm thinking about healing his nose with my power without him noticing. If he figured out about my powers, he would freak and tell everyone.

"Why do you want to help me? I thought you hated me." Max asked and I narrowed my eyebrows confused.

"I don't hate you," I told him.

"Seems like you do." Max scoffed and I rolled my eyes.

"If I hated you, I wouldn't be helping you right now," I told Max, who stayed silent.

I definitely don't hate Max that's for sure.

Once we made it to my house, I unlocked the front door and walked in.

"Go in the kitchen, I'll be right there," I instructed Max, who made his way into the kitchen.

"Nice house!" He exclaimed as I went upstairs to put my backpack away. I handed back downstairs and into the kitchen to find Max checking out the room.

"I'm back." Max turned to me and grinned, but he stopped and cringed in pain.

"Sit down and I will grab some ice for you." I went over to the freezer and grabbed an ice pack. In my house, we never needed these because I was able to heal any injuries or wounds.

I went over to Max, who was sitting down on the table and gently placed the ice pack on his nose. Max was just staring at me the whole time and I thought this was the right time to heal his nose.

My hand began to glow and I focused all of my attention on Max's nose. Max was completely oblivious to the fact that my hand was yellow which was good on my part.

After about ten seconds, my hand stopped glowing and I took the ice pack off. His nose was completely healed as nothing had happened.

"Hey, your nose is fine." I pretended to be shocked and Max felt his nose.

His eyes widened. "Wow, how did that happen?"

I shrugged. "Must be the ice pack."

Max didn't seem convinced. "My nose was basically broken and now it's completely healed."

Oh no, he's on to me.

I gave him a nervous laugh. "It's a miracle!"

Max raised an eyebrow at me and hopped down from the table. I gave him a sheepish grin before walking over to the freezer to put the ice pack away.

"Yeah, I guess it was." Max agreed and I sighed with relief.

I turned to him as I shut the freezer. "Well, I think you should go home. Daniel will be back soon and he wants me to do my homework. Bye Max."

"You're hiding something aren't you?" Max inquired and I swallowed nervously.

"No, why would you think that?" I asked him, trying my best to avoid eye contact.

"Because I know a pathetic liar when I see one," Max responded and I gave him an offended look.

"Hey!" I exclaimed, offended.

"Listen, I'll leave you alone for now but I will figure out your secret," Max smirked at me before walking away. I trailed behind him slowly and watched him leave my house.

I stared at the door for a few moments thinking about what just happened.
