Cheer and Present Danger

(Skipped The Blue Detective because it seemed more like a family thing and Lindsey wouldn't fit in it. Sorry)

Lindsey's POV

I was on my way to Wong's Pizza Place with Max to have lunch. I found it quite odd that he wanted to buy me lunch but I wasn't complaining. If it means I get food, then I don't care who I go with.

Max and I have a complicated relationship. We are friends but he flirts with me often. Then sometimes he doesn't flirt at all; it's weird.

We walked inside Wong's Pizza Place and there was a huge group of people here crowding Ms. Wong. Max and I pushed our way through and found Lionel.

"Hey, Lionel! What's going on here?" I asked Lionel.

"Guess how many pepperoni slices in the jar and win free pizza for a month! This is the day my life changes." He informed us and I saw a jar of pepperoni slices on a table with a sign next to it saying 'Win a month of free pizza!"

Max grabbed a piece of paper and I looked at him. "Do you know the answer?"

"Come on! Any other suckeronis!" Ms. Wong called out with a bunch of money in her hands.

"Right here!" Max announced and everyone looked at him. Ms. Wong glared.

"Oh, hello, Max." Ms. Wong greeted with a disgusted look on her face as we walked up. I stayed behind Max. "I guess security at juvie is pretty loose these days."

Max ignored her comment. "Here's my dollar and my guess." He handed her his dollar and guess.

"Thanks, dummy." Ms. Wong said and Max winked at me which usually means he's confident in whatever he's doing. "Okay! It's twelve'o'clock! Time to reveal the number!"

A drum roll began and Ms. Wong turned to the guy who was doing the drum roll on his snare drum.

"Shut it band geek!" Ms. Wong snarled and he quit drumming. "Okay, the actual number of pepperonis in the jar is..." She revealed the number. "3,167!"

The crowd groaned in response and I turned to Max with a shocked expression. He guessed 3,167 pepperonis and got it exactly correct.

Ms. Wong laughed. "Thanks for playing losers!"

Max stopped Ms. Wong. "Woah, wait. I think I won."

"What!" She exclaimed and checked Max's guess. "There's no way you could've guessed-- 3,167!"

"Yess!" Max cheered and we all congratulated him on his win. "Thanks, guys! But please chant with your words and not your hands."

The crowd decreased and Ms. Wong grabbed his shirt. "You cheated!"

"Hey, I didn't cheat. I'm just a really good guesser." Max reasoned. "You owe me a month of free za!"

Ms. Wong gapped in disbelief.

"Play us out, band geek!" Max told the band geek and he began to play his snare drum. Max put his arms in the air and the entire pizza place cheered as we left.

Max sighed happily and put his arm around my shoulders. I pushed it off.

"Just because you won doesn't mean you can do that," I told him and Max smirked.

"I'll share the pizza with you." He offered and I thought for a moment.

"Fine." I agreed and Max wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

----

Max and I walked into his house about ten minutes later. His parents were on the couch.

"You're welcome." Max smiled.

Barb and Hank glanced at each other. "Uh-oh."

Max took off his backpack. "Guys, I have great news. I won a contest at Wong's and won us free pizza for a month."

Barb and Hank shot up. "New favorite kid!"

Hank and Max hi-fived each other.

"Alert! Alert! Angry Wong Approaching!" The Thunder Monitor alerted.

"Cheesy goodness approacheth," Max said.

"That was quick," I mentioned and Max answered the door. Ms. Wong walked in with five boxes of pizza.

"Hey, Ms. Wong. Are those for me?" Max asked, grinning at her.

"They sure are!" She shoved the pizza boxes into his arms and opened the top box. I immediately covered my nose when she opened the pizza box. The pizza had fish heads covering it and it reeked.

Max was disgusted. "What is on this?"

"Those are fish heads! Fish head!" Ms. Wong informed. "It's the only pizza you'll get until you admit you cheated on my contest!"

"I told you, I did not cheat!" Max protested.

"Really? Well, then get ready for a fish heads tsunami!" Ms. Wong snapped and closed the box. She snapped in a 'Z' formation. "Wong out!"

Ms. Wong left and Max closed the door with his foot.

"Max, is that true? Did you cheat?" Barb asked his son.

"Of course not! I'm just a really good guesser!" Max denied and set the boxes on the table. It began to smell insanely bad and I pinched my nose again. "Right now. I'm guessing my lair smells a whole lot better than this place!"

Max went down to his lair and I headed back home to get some fresh air.

----

The following day I went to the Thunderman's house and the aroma got even worse than yesterday. The house was filled with pizza boxes and I was starting to question myself on why I'm coming here.

Max and I walked in and he sniffed the air. He stopped and sniffed my hair and a smile grew on his face.

"Much better!" He smiled and I rolled my eyes.

"Hang in there, everybody!" Max assured us. "Ms. Wong can't keep this up forever."

Billy pointed at a fly. "Fly 3'o'clock!"

"On it!" Nora shot the fly with her laser eyes and she and Billy hi-fived.

Barb shot up. "This place is officially a four bedroom dumpster! Max, I think you should just admit to Ms. Wong that you cheated!"

"You think that's what happened?" Max asked.

"Well, isn't it?" Hank continued.

"Do any of you think I won the contest fair and square?" Max asked us and my hand shot up.

"I think you did. I was there." I walked over to Max, giving him a small smile.

"Thanks, Linds," Max told me. On the other hand, Max's family averted their eyes from him not wanting to say the truth.

"This is very awkward," Billy whispered to his little sister.

"Oh, I get it. It's Max. Always trying to fool us with his perfect hair and confident swagger." Max began and I shrugged. He does have nice hair. "So, he must have cheated."

"Can you blame us for thinking that? You are, kind of, a supervillain." Hank reasoned

"Kind of? I can melt the North Pole with one touch of my cell phone." Max told him. "But I did not cheat on this pizza contest. Okay?!"

His family still didn't believe him.

"It just got awkwarder!" Billy whispered to his sister again.

"Okay, I see how it is. Thanks for having my back family!" Max glared and ran off toward his room.

"Max!" I called and followed Max to his lair.

I went into Max's lair and found him sitting on his bed, sulking.

"Max?" I said and he looked up. He wasn't crying, but I can feel his sadness. Max isn't the touchy-feely type of person.

"What?" He asked.

"Does it make you feel any better for me to say I know you didn't cheat?" I told him, approaching his bed slowly.

"If you can convince my parents that I didn't cheat." He hopped onto his feet and walked by me.

"Maybe you can show them with a lie detector," I suggested, jokingly.

"That's actually a good idea," Max told me and my smile fell.

"I was joking," I told him, folding my arms over my chest.

"A lie detector could work." Max beamed and I shook my head.

"I was joking, Max," I repeated but Max ignored me.

"You're the best, Linds." Max winked and turned away from me.

"How come I can hear me?" I asked myself before walking upstairs.

----

The following day, I was in my room watching tv. My brother was at work and I was bored. I didn't want to go to the Thunderman's house because it smelled like-

Knock knock

I sat up and turned to the window to find Max at the window. I opened the window and I knew Max was sad again because of his facial expression and his eyes were darkened.

"You do realize there is a front door." I reminded him and he nodded.

"I know." I rolled my eyes and let him crawl inside.

"What's wrong?" I asked him and he pretended to be confused.

"What makes you think something is wrong?" He scoffed and I chuckled, sitting down on my bed.

"Empathy, remember?"

"Right." He said and sat down beside me. He sighed. "The lie detector failed."

"You actually tried using one?" I questioned him and nodded. "I told you, I was joking."

"Doesn't matter now. Colosso rigged it and he even thinks I cheated." Max explained. "Now everyone in my house thinks I cheated."

I shrugged, running my hands through my hair. "I don't know what to do. Sorry."

"It's fine." Max waved me off.

"They'll have to believe you at some point," I told Max. "I mean unless they want to live in fish pizza forever."

Max chuckled which caused me to giggle.

"I sure don't," Max mentioned.

It was silent for a few moments until I heard the front door shut. Our heads snapped toward the stairs and I stood up.

"That's my brother. I should go help him." I informed Max.

"I'll be on my way then," Max told me and went over to the window, while I walked toward the hallway.

"Wait, Linds." I turned around and Max pulled me into a warm hug. It took me a second to react because this is so unlike Max. He doesn't like showing affection to people, but I didn't mind it.

I wrapped my arms around his torso and rested my head on his chest as his arms wrapped around my petite body. I felt myself smile because I have the ability to touch Max's soft spot. I guess this super-villain does have a heart.

The hug didn't last long, it was only about ten seconds. I got this strange feeling when we hugged. I felt safe and sound in his arms, which is strange because he wants to be a villain.

When we pulled away, I immediately turned away from Max and walked out of my room.

My cheeks were bright red and my heart was pounding. I'm not sure what I'm feeling for Max, but it's something.

----

The following day, Max and I entered his house from the side doors. We saw Ms. Wong standing there and I rolled my eyes. This is all her fault, I hate that woman. Max pulled me behind a support beam to listen to them.

"-I'll make you a deal. I'll stop all the deliveries and take away all these boxes if you. If you admit your son cheated." Ms, Wong negotiated with them.

"So, let me get this straight if we say Max cheated? No more fish pizzas?" Barb paraphrased.

"I just said that." Ms. Wong said, shrugging her shoulders.

"We've decided..." Hank began and I saw Max's face fall and I gave him a small hug. Hank, Barb, Billy, and Nora all took a piece of fish pizza and ate a slice. Ms. Wong groaned in disgust and I gagged quietly.

"We believe Max." Hank finished and Max grinned, happily.

"I just wish there was a less disgusting way to believe, Max!" Barb exclaimed, chewing the pizza.

"Okay, for you Thundermans. I got five hundred boxes of skunk butt pizza with your name on it!" Ms. Wong threatened and that's when Max and I stepped in.

"Stop!" Max called and Ms. Wogn turned to him. "Alright, Ms. Wong, you win."

"Max, what are you doing?" I asked him, confused.

"Linds, it's okay. Just knowing that my family believes is enough." Max admitted which made me crack a smile. "And if she needs to hear me say the words 'I cheated' for this to end, then fine." Max glanced at Wong. "Yeah, I'll even put it in writing."

Max ripped off a piece of the pizza box and wrote down the words 'I cheated' on it with his pen.

"I cheated. Max Thunderman." He wrote and handed it to Ms. Wong. "There, happy now?"

Ms. Wong laughed with satisfaction. "I always win!" She began to walk out. "I'm gonna hang this in my shop and everyone will know your shame!" She snapped in a 'Z' formation. "Wong out!"

She walked out the door, happily.

"Max, why'd you do that?" Hank asked his son.

"Wait for it," Max told us and clicked his pen. Seconds later a 'pop was heard outside. "Exploding ink. Didn't cheat, but I'm still a supervillain."

Ms. Wong came back and she was burnt and he hair was sticking up. I snickered, covering my mouth with my hand.

"Or we can just call it a draw?" Ms. Wong suggested.

"Deal." Max agreed and slammed the door in her face. Max clicked his pen again and another explosion happened outside the house

"Aww, come on!" Ms. Wong exclaimed

"Supervillain!" Max nodded his head, pointing to himself. I smiled at Max and he gave me a wink in return.

There's the Max we all know and love.
