Hiccup's POV
I arrived into the village around eight o'clock, and headed to Gobber's for work. I walked down the crooked paths and came upon the Metal Works Shop.
It was a run down, average sized building with a furnace pushed into the far back, left corner. We had three sharpeners, all laid in the center of the rooms. A large cauldron with cool water was in the back, right corner, close to the furnace, so we can quickly cool off heated metals.
I could here the familiar clatter of hard objects coming from inside. I entered through a small half door and saw Gobber hammering out a large sword.
"Hey lad!" Gobber said once he saw me.
"Hey, Gobber." I reply back with a small smile forced onto my lips. I couldn't let Gobber know how bad my emotional state was getting.
"What've we got today?" I ask, as I put on an apron. Gobber seems to know somethings up and frowns but doesn't press me on the matter, thankfully.
"Why don'cha take the battle axe on the third shelf?" He says.
"Sure."
I walk over to the third shelf and look it over, finding a total of three axes.
"Uh..." I begin, "Which one? There are three here." Gobber turns around. I gesture to the three axes. He hums to himself for a moment.
"Take which ever one ya like!" He tells me, turns around, to continue beating the sword with a thick, strong looking hammer, attached to his switchable, prosthetic hand.
I shrug to myself and take the weapon to the left. As I look at it, I appears to have a fine leather wrapped handle, with a two sided blade. The right side looked to me iron, while the left seemed to be a type of bronze. On either side of the blade it had interesting engravings. The language wasn't in Norse, so I couldn't read it.
I run a calloused hand over the flat part of the axe. It was a little rough in some areas, so it would probably need to be smoothed. The blade also seemed worn, and pretty dull.
"Well, get to work then!" Gobber startled me out if my fascination in the battle axe that lay in my hands. "On with it!" He ushered.
"I know, I know." I mutter.
"Don't mumble!" Gobber scolds me playfully.
I walk over to a small tool, sit myself down, lay the blade so it was resting against the small round stone grinder, and began pedaling. The stone soon began moving at a quick pace and the friction from the blade and stone, caused sparks to fly around the room. I continued this motion for a while, getting lost in my self-deprecating thoughts.

Gobber's POV
I watched Hiccup with worry. He usually talked with me more, and I was hoping this visit would be different from the recent ones where he would go hours without talking to me, losing himself in his mind. Sometimes I think, that boy is the only Viking on this cursed island, that uses his brain.
His father could be so thick-headed sometimes. Well, more like most of the time, and that's coming from Stoick's best friend from childhood. Hiccup was more like his mother, may she rest in peace. Valka died shortly after Hiccup was born, taken and eaten by dragons.
Sometimes I think the only reason Stoick is so hard on his son is because he doesn't want him to end up like his late wife. Even though this is my theory, the father doesn't have to be that tough on Hiccup.
I turn around and try to strike up conversation for the small Viking boy, before he left for a small meal.
"Eh, so Hiccup, how about Astrid?"
His face turns the color of a tomato.
"What about her?" Hiccup asks slowly, regaining his composure.
"Oh come on boy, I see the way you look at 'er!" I actually hadn't seen that look from him towards Astrid in a very long time.
Hiccup seemed to be having a silent debate on how to proceed, with himself.
After a moment, he said, "I'm not interested in her anymore."
"Anymore?" I ask with genuine curiosity. "So you liked 'er at once?"
"At once perhaps, but I soon realized that I wasn't really interested." He stated, with a convincing look. "I found I only sort of, I dunno, idolized her, I guess. I never really had a true crush on her."
"Oh." I thought for a moment in that, then came up with a question, that might determine his entire relationship with his father, depending on his answer.
"Hiccup, who do you like?" Then I decided to clarify my question a bit more. "What type of person, I mean? Man or woman?"
Hiccup immediately stopped working.
"Well, sorry Gobber, but I-I'm gonna go and g-get something t-to eat." He stuttered. "I'm pretty hungry, a-and so y-yeah. I'll answer your question later a-and-" I cut off his exit by taking a step in front of him.
"Hiccup, answer my question." I say, with a serious tone.
The boy sighs, looking at his feet. He finally lifts his chin. His green eyes, filled with shame.
"I like men." I was so shocked after he said those three simple words that I didn't even stop him when he left.

Hiccup's POV
"I like men." As soon as I said the words, I regretted it. I ran out of building, glad Gobber didn't stop me. Why did I say that?! I think angrily to myself. Great! Now I'm going to end up in Helheim! Well, I suppose I would've anyway, because if mine being a failure to everything Vikings stand for.
I had gotten a bit far away from the blacksmith, when my thoughts were interrupted by a sudden heavy force slammed into me. Immediately my right rib cage, exploded with pain. Lying flat on my back from the blunt of the impact with, what looked to be a hammer, I groaned when I heard a familiar, taunting voice.
"What are you still doing here, Fishbone?" Snotlout chortled. "Why don't you just run away? Not like anyone would miss you."
He spat the word 'you'. Snotlout's normal group of cronies were gathered around him. The twins, Ruffnut and Tuffnut, and Fishlegs. Fishlegs' looked like he didn't really want to be there at the time, but didn't want to face Snotlout's wrath if he left.
"So, you want to be beaten?" Snotlout mocks. "Well, you'll get your wish, you useless piece of junk!"
On those words, the twins march forward, with a mischievous gleam in their blue eyes.
They kicked me, and threw insults at me. I didn't even try to stop them. I curled up in a ball, and let them hurt me. I accepted their cruel words, and let myself slip into unconsciousness at one, painful, blow to the back of my head.
