Chapter 28: Learning The Truth
Y/N's P.O.V
So I've just been to see Mako, Asami and Varrick to give them an update of Tonraq's situation.
After that I go to see Korra, she's currently at her parents house with her mum.
When I get there I see Korra come out of the house.
Y/N: Hey, what's going on?
Korra: I'm done sitting around. We need to do something. Now, I know you're probably gonna say...
Y/N: Actually, I agree. We need to do something. I'm done just sitting around. There's a time to be patient, then there's a time to act.
She smiles.
Korra: I'm glad you said that, because I have a plan and I'll need you to help.
Y/N: Okay, Avatar Korra, what's your plan?
Korra: Well, first we're gonna need Naga.
(Fifteen minutes later)
After getting Naga we follow the judge out into the mountains.
He's ahead of us in his car.
Nage runs along side it and slams into the car
The judge spins out and crashes.
Y/N: Good job, Naga.
Korra and I get off her and go over to the car.
I open the door and Korra looks inside as Naga growls at the judge.
Korra grabs him and throws him against the car.
Hotah: What do you two want?
Korra: It's not what we want, it's what Naga wants. And she'd like you to let my father out of prison.
Hotah: I'm... I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do. I was just following Unalaq's orders.
I go over to him.
Y/N: What are you talking about?
Hotah: I've... I've said to much.
Y/N: That's it. Naga, open up.
I grab him and put his head inside Naga's mouth.
Y/N: Now, I'm sure you're a smart enough guy to see where this is going. You better start talking, unless you wanna be Naga's afternoon snack.
Hotah: You're an Airbender, you won't do it.
I lean in closer.
Y/N: You sure about that?
Hotah: Okay, okay! I've worked for Unalaq for years! He said he needed everyone to think the trial was fair.
Korra: So, Unalaq told you what to say?
Hotah: Yes! Every word.
Korra: Then why did he have you free my mother and change your sentence?
Hotah: He's trying to keep you on his side, but he also wants your father out of the way. Just like when he got your father banished.
Y/N: What does that mean?
Hotah: Nothing!
Y/N: Keep talking, old man.
(Thirty minutes later)
After learning that Unalaq set Tonraq up, so he'd get banished we go to telling the others what happened.
Korra: Unalaq's a liar and a traitor!
Varrick: I've been trying to tell you that from the get-go.
Mako: What happened?
Y/N: We found out the truth about Tonraq's banishment. Unalaq hired the barbarians to attack their Tribe.
Korra: Then he told them to hide in the Spirit Forest, knowing my dad would go after them.
Mako: Unalaq wanted your dad outta the way so he could become Chief. It was a set-up.
Y/N: Exactly.
Korra: Just like the whole trial. I can't believe I trusted him. I'm busting my father and the rebels out jail. I need your help.
Mako: If you do this, there's no going back.
Korra: I know. Will you help me or not?
Y/N: I'm already in.
Mako: Of course, I'll help.
Asami: Me too.
Varrick: Count me in!
Just then the door opens and we turn to see Bolin in Water Tribe clothing and a necklace.
Mako: I don't even wanna know.
Asami: So, I'm guessing the break-up with Eska didn't go well?
Bolin: No, no, the honesty thing worked out great. So great that she decided we should get married!
Y/N: Dude, this is what happens when you date a crazy girl.
I notice Korra looking at me.
Y/N: Not... not that you're a crazy girl, because... because you're not. You're amazing. I love you.
She smirks.
Korra: Nice save.
She looks at Bolin.
Korra: Anyway, I'm pretty sure the guy is suppose to give the girl Betrothal necklace.
Bolin: I guess Eska didn't get the memo.
Varrick: Look, the only way to deal with crazy women is to lie big and leave fast. Lucky for you, Varrick's got your back. Now, gather around Ping-Ping.
We gather around him.
Varrick: Let's talk plan.
(One hour later)
Korra, Mako, Asami and I have snuck into the prison where Tonraq and the rebels are being held.
We're hidden under the floor.
As a guard walks past I grab him and pull him down. This allows Asami to stun him.
Once he's out I take the keys from him.
We then come out.
Korra points to a cell.
Korra: My dad's in there.
I unlock the cell door and Korra opens it.
But Tonraq isn't there.
Korra: Where is he?
???: I'm sorry, Korra.
We look over and see Unalaq is here.
Unalaq: You'll never see your father again.
Y/N: Ah, shit.
Korra steps forward.
Korra: Where's my father?
Unalaq: On a ship headed to the Northern Tribe. He'll serve out his sentence there.
Korra: Bring him back or I'm taking you out and the rest of your army.
Unalaq: Remember who you are. As the Avatar, you cannot threaten war. You must remain neutral, or our Tribes will never find unity.
Korra: You don't want unity. You want power. You've always been jealous of my father, haven't you? You got him banished so you could become Chief, and I bet it just killed you to learn he was the Avatar's father. No wonder you kept trying to take me away from him.
Unalaq: All I've ever wanted is to help you realise your destiny.
Korra: Well, I don't want your help anymore.
Unalaq: If you start a war, the Dark Spirit's will annihilate the South. And even I will be powerless to stop them.
Korra: I'm done being manipulated by you. You're going to bring my father back, then you and your troops will return to the North.
Korra turns.
Unalaq: And why would I do that?
Korra: Because you still need me to open the Northern portal.
Unalaq: No, I don't. You served your purpose.
Just then Korra turns and blasts him with Firebending.
Unalaq quickly blocks it with Waterbending and shoots ice projectiles at her.
I rush in and fire a blast of air at him, but he knocks me away with Waterbending.
Korra blasts him back with Airbending.
I then create a wall of wind using Airbending, so we make a run for it.
We now need to find Tonraq.
