Chapter 1

(A.N. New story! Let's see how it goes shall we?)

The sun slowly crept into the sky. It's warm, soft, bright rays shown through the windows.

Another beautiful day.

Everyone in the Pulitzer Palace thought so. Everyone, that is, except for crowned Princess Katherine.

For her, another beautiful day meant another day of useless "Princess Training."

She preferred to explore and write. Oh how she loved writing. Anytime she'd get a break, that's all she would do. Just write for hours on end. She had oftened dreamed of one day being a world famous reporter, not the Princess of New York. She hated being a princess.

So when the suns light beams landed on her face, her eyes fluttered open as she sat up and stretched.

She gazed out of her windows. She had a lovely view of the palace gardens. The variety of flowers were gorgeous in the morning light. Katherine let a smile creep across her face.

A knock at the door interrupted her daydreaming. Her smile was now gone and her happiness was too.

"Who is it?" She called to the person on the other side. "It's Alice." Came a muffled response. Katherine sighed in relief. It was her lifelong best friend and lady's maid.

"Come in." She said. "Good morning Miss." Alice greeted. Katherine giggled. "What's with the formality? You-" She stopped mid sentence when her aunt Meridith walked in.

"Aunt Meridith, what are you doing here?" Katherine asked in a slightly shaky voice. Her aunt was never a nice person. She always scolded Katherine for not acting "lady like" 24/7.

She would often argue with Katherine's mother and her sister-in-law, Queen Cecilia, on how Katherine was never going to fit enough to rule as queen, while Cecilia thought Katherine was going to make an outstanding one.

"Oh Katherine, don't you know that a princess rises with the sun?" She said in her sickly sweet voice.

Katherine groaned. "Yes, only because you've told me a thousand times. But I'm also a teenager, and teenagers sleep in on Saturdays." She informed her, pulling the blanket over her head and plopped back down on her pillow.

"None of that young lady!" Meridith chided as she yanked the covers off of her niece. "The only way you'll ever be a queen and not a good for nothing child is if you have discipline." She continued to chastise her.

Then she turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, closing the door behind her with a bang.

Katherine jumped and winced at the sound. Alice too gave a small shriek. Katherine lept out of bed and ran to the comforting arm of her best friend before bursting into tears. Alice enveloped her in a loving hug, doing her best to calm her.

"I hate this life!" Katherine said in between sobs. How could she be a queen if she couldn't even be herself?
