Vincent 5

I can't believe it! She killed me! This whole time I thought my parents had wanted me dead! I can't believe-

Did my master know? He couldn't have! He wouldn't have made me work with her if he knew she had killed me. Or would he? He might have. What difference does it make?! I can never trust Rivka again!

I'm back home now. When I got here, I ran straight to my room. Now I'm alone in shock with the door locked.

How could she do that? She killed me just so she could have power! I could understand if it was like our mission. At least we're fighting for a cause. She didn't know about any of that! She just killed to keep her family's social status!

I can't trust Rivka again! I don't even want to see her again! I hate her! I HATE HER! I was hoping she would get chosen eventually as my master's successor, but not anymore! I don't want her to ever get it! I hope she dies during the mission! She deserves it.

I hear a knocking on my door.

"Open the door child," my master says.

I obey him. I wish I didn't have to right now. I want to be alone.

"What happened?" he asks.

"I just found out the real story of how I died!" I yell.

"Ah yes, she led you to your death."

Why does he sound so calm?!

"Did my parents actually want me dead?" I ask.

"You hadn't taken the power they wanted you to. They hated you for it. They didn't plan your death but when it happened they were fine with it."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"This is what I meant by not wanting you to remember what happened."

"That doesn't answer my question!"

"Child, do not raise your voice at me."

"Did you know Rivka was the same girl who killed me?"

"I did. I decided it was better that you didn't know. It would interfere with your focus and willingness to work with her. Clearly I was right."

Why does he always sound so calm?! I wish he wasn't always so right!

"Listen to me, my child," he continues, "You weren't supposed to know until the mission was over. Now that you do know you need to tolerate her until we've taken control. It won't be long now. When it's over, you can do what you think is best. I don't need nor want to know what that is right now. All you have to do is wait until I have the throne. Then I only need one of you to survive. When that is the case you may do as you please with her."

"I wish I had known," I say.

"It was better that you didn't."

"Do you know anything else about my family and what they were like?"

"I don't believe you should know that my child. It could hurt you."

"Please! What were they like?!"

"They believed in power. If you had originally taken the one they wanted you to, they would have been proud. They would have loved you."

"Why couldn't I just take it then?"

"It wasn't the power that was meant for you," he says, "You were meant for something greater. A part of you even if it was subconsciously knew that it wasn't what you really wanted or needed and couldn't let you stoop low enough for that."

"Rivka is a murderer."

"And that's what allowed her to take the death power. Child, just tolerate her for a little while longer. It will work out better for everyone in the long run. You don't have to like her. You don't have to trust her. You don't even have to pretend to like or trust her. You just have to not kill her until we're finished. Do you understand?"

"Yes sir."

"Good boy, I'll leave you alone for now. I will call you when I require you again."

"Yes sir."

I don't want to work with Rivka anymore. I can't wait for the mission to be over. I can't wait until we don't need her alive anymore. I can't wait until I can do to her what she did to me. I can't wait until I can just kill her already and be done with it. I can't wait until she's dead.

Why is my master so calm about all of this?! Doesn't he understand?! She killed me! He's forcing me to work with a murderer!

I wish I could know my family, even if they really did want me dead. I wish I could remember them. I wonder if my master was actually right to erase my memories of them.

Of course it was! He only did what was best for me. If they really didn't care that I had died just because I didn't get the power they wanted me to have, then they must have been bad people. And anyways, my master could sense that the power within me was greater than the one they wanted me to have. He must have been right. He has to be better than they were.

I wonder if I should go talk to Fiona. Maybe I should ask her what happened to Rivka's mother. I wonder if she would know anything about my family. Fiona wouldn't but Natalya might. I'll have to ask her if she knows where Natalya is.

I walk down through the dungeon. I'm still being escorted by a guard every time I come down here. I really don't think I need one but, my master says it's there to keep me safe. More proof that he's a good person.

We stop at Fiona's cell. She's in almost the same condition she was the last time I saw her. But, she's also different now. She has dark circles under bloodshot eyes, and her grey hair is greasy and tangled. She has a look of pure hopelessness in her big colorless eyes. Her clothes are ragged and she's got dirt on her.

She's huddled in a corner. She doesn't get up like she did the last time I was here. Now she just looks up and glares at me. I can see now that her eyes are red and her face is stained with tears. Even though I know she needs to be here, I still feel bad when I see her in this state.

I turn to the guard.

"You are dismissed," I say.

"But you master said," he starts.

"I don't care. Go wait for me at the exit and don't say a word to my master about this."

"Yes sir."

I turn back to Fiona.

"What do you want you filthy little moldwarp?!" she almost screams at me.

I wasn't expecting that. I thought I would barely get a single mumbled word out of her when I walked in. I certainly didn't expect her to yell at me before I even said a word.

"H-Hi," I say, "Do uh, do you know where Natalya is?"

"Why do you care moldwarp?!"

"I want to talk to her. I want to find out if she knows anything about who my parents were."

"They're dead?"

"No."

At least not that I know of. I hope not. Even if they were horrible.

"Then why don't you know?" she asks, sounding more concerned and suspicious than angry now.

"I got killed when I was little. I just found out the real story of how it happened. My master took me in and raised me. Now I know that at least my parents didn't do it directly. I want to see if I can find anything out about them. Natalya was Rivka's mother right? That means she would have known them."

"She got dragged to the end of the dungeon. I don't know if she's still there. They might have moved her, or killed her. I don't know which. You can ask her if she's still there."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome kid. Just stay safe."

"I will."

"Do you know who your parents were at all?"

"No, when my master saved me he erased all of my memories of them and any of my life before I came here."

She nods, "Good luck."

I nod back and walk deeper into the dungeon than I ever have before. There aren't any prisoners here besides Fiona, which I'm grateful for. The deeper I go it gets darker. There are less real lights and we're too deep underground for natural sunlight to get here. I start to think I'm seeing bones inside the empty cells.

It's just my eyes playing tricks on me. I can make out a faint smell of mold. I start sneezing from the dust. My eyes are watering. I come to the last cell in the line and see a disheveled woman lying in it. She doesn't even look at me.
