Chapter 5
Sky
We jammed to some music and talked about more random things until lunch ended and we had to go back to class.
Peter was shocked to know I listen to rock music, he expected me to be a 1D die hard fan.
He was wrong.
That's Anna.
We also took some stupid selfies together and I sent them to him after we exchanged numbers.
We go into our chemistry class for the next rather boring 45 minutes.
As much as I hate chemistry, I always seem to do well in it. Which is weird honestly.
"Who can tell me what kind of reaction this equation represents?" She asks and nobody's hands go up. Some are about to doze off, some are secretly texting and some just don't care.
The equation is pretty simple, but I won't raise my hand yet, because whenever no one answers, she offers extra marks to whoever gets it correct.
"+1 for whoever gets it right."
Bingo.
I raise my hand slightly, as nerves start to build up in me. What if I get it wrong and then everyone thinks I'm stupid?
"Brianna." She chose.
Well there goes the mark. I sigh and lower my hand.
"A combination reaction?"
Of course she got it right- Wait what did she say?
Oh my god she got it wrong!
Then my answer is definitely wrong.
"Sky? You raised your hand?"
Now she sees me?
My face turns red at all the attention being on me as I nod weakly.
"An oxidation-reduction?" I ask more than answer.
"That's correct!" She smiles at me and I smile back slightly, feeling a great weight being lifted off my shoulders. "Can you elaborate more?"
And the weight is back.
I know this, why am I so scared?
Curse you, stage fright!
I look at the board again and study the equation more, making sense of it all.
I hear Dianna, Eve and Brianna snicker and I take a glance at them and roll my eyes.
"The CuO is the oxidizing agent, while the C is the reducing agent." I say slightly more confidently.
"Good job, Sky!"
I smile and rest back in my chair as I smile at the girls who thought I would mess up, making them scoff and turn away.
But not Brianna, she didn't react like the other two. She just looked away.
I turn back to Nat.
"Did you see that?" I whisper with a chuckle.
She nods and tries to hold in her laugh.
The class ended eventually and now we only have two more classes left, this next one being a free period so everyone can find a club or elective class to join.
Those classes don't start from today, so it's pretty much a free period for a lot of classes.
Nat and I had to go to the gym to meet with our teammates, to pick the new captain and help out with tryouts, also practice for the game this Friday.
"This is where we leave you, Peter." I say and clap his shoulder. "Nat and I gotta get to the gym. Basketball awaits!"
"What clubs are there?" He asks.
"Well, there's french, the drama club, the book club, uh, there's also the yearbook committee and the prom committee. Oh and the photography club!" Nat replied. "That's all I know of. Laura is in the drama club, and Anna is in the book club as well as prom committee."
"I think I'll join the photography club." Peter shrugged.
"Are you sure you're not Peter Parker?" I tease and he laughs. "Laura and Anna are coming to watch practice, you can come too if you want. After you sign up for your club that is."
"Sure, I'd love to!" Peter smiled at me.
We say goodbye to him and walk to the gym, going into the locker room to change into our jerseys before we all huddle up with the coach and discuss the newcomers.
"Girl do you see the way Peter looks at you?" Nat squeals as we tie our sneakers.
"You mean with his eyes? Like any other normal person?" I chuckle and stand up, stretching my arms.
"No!" She hits me with her jacket. I don't understand how she can wear that in this hot weather. "The dude's smitten by you!"
"Nat, chill." I laugh, rubbing my arm that she hit. "We literally only met today. You know exactly what I think of love at first sight or whatever."
"Alright, suit yourself." She shrugged. "He seems really nice though, I think we can trust him."
"I hope so." I chuckle. "He's my next door neighbor."
Nat wiggles her eyebrows at me and I push her away playfully as we laugh together and walk out of the locker room together.
"Hey, coach!" Nat greets our coach, Stormie; who is the coolest most badass woman ever.
"Hey there Nat!" She grins seeing us. "Sky!" She comes over to us, giving us both side hugs.
Stormie is that fun teacher that everyone loves to be around, and fortunately for us, she considers us as her favorite students heh. She has her own weird and crazy side.
"How's it been?" I ask, my grin matching hers.
"Well," she trailed off, fighting a grin. She pulled her hand up, showing us her new beautiful amethyst engagement ring.
My jaw falls to the ground as Nat and I silently scream and jump a lot in our place.
Like, a lot!
"He proposed?!" I exclaimed happily, looking at the ring more closely. She nodded excitedly.
"How did he do it?" Nat asked, a bright smile on her face too.
"We went to the summer fair and he proposed to me on top of the Ferris wheel when I was freaking out."
Even the most badass people have fears.
That keeps me going.
"Wait we went to the fair too!" Nat remembered, hitting my arm lightly in excitement. "Oh my god I can't believe we missed your proposal!"
"No matter." She waved off. "I want you guys to attend my wedding. Will you be my flower girls?"
Nat and I exchange smiles as we have a telepathic conversation then turn to her and nod with a grin.
"We'd be honored to, Stormie!"
"I can't wait to tell Anna and Laura too!" She grinned. "Are they coming to watch?"
"Yeah they are." Nat nods, and as if on cue, they walk into the gym and go to the stands as the gym had gotten crowded with all the new people wanting to try out. "Oh look, they just came."
"Peter came too!" I pointed out with a smile.
"You met a Peter and we're talking about my proposal?" Stormie joked. "Did you do it with a ring pop?"
I roll my eyes and laugh, shaking my head. "His last name wasn't Parker."
"But we all still ship it." Nat laughed and I groaned loudly as a joke.
Stormie laughed and put an arm around us each, leading us to the middle of the gym where the rest of our team was chatting among themselves. The new students wanting to try out sat on the side, and the cheerleaders occupied the other half of the gym.
Brianna was a cheerleader obviously, so her group was also present at the gym right now.
"Time to pick the new captain."
