Chapter Four
"Hi!" A cheerful voice interrupted the silence that I surrounded myself in. When I turned my head, Vanessa's bright smile nearly blinded my eyes.
"Ugh! Don't smile like the sun!" I said, shielding my eyes with the book I was reading. She giggled and sat beside me. "So what do you want?" I asked, focusing back to my book.
"My friend's having a party tonight," she said. "Wanna come?"
"What makes you think that I wanna come?" I looked at her with one of my eyebrows raised. A sly smile slowly formed on my face and she leaned forward to my ear.
"To get your revenge on 'you know who'," she whispered and moved away smiling. So he's going, I thought. Would this be worth it? I asked myself, looking at Vanessa and my book a few times for answers.
I don't think so.
*****
"Dude! That's too tight!" I yelled, trying my best to stand still.
"Don't 'dude dude' me!" Vanessa yelled back. "And besides, this is the only choice you have." Pulling up the zipper one last time and locking the dress, a sigh of relief escaped her lips after she had finally got me in my out fit.
"Couldn't I just wear a hoodie and jeans?" I asked, slouching a bit as I slipped into the heels she found in my closet. "I feel very uncomfortable in this." Vanessa looked at me and shook her head. I frowned.
"If you wanna get him, then you gotta have him get you," she said as she pulled me to a chair. I sat down with a confused look and she just smiled. She began fixing my hair into an elegant ponytail. She let my long, wavy brown locks hang down and did a few more curls at the tips. She also did my make up, but I made her stop before she could even add some more blush and lipstick on me.
When I was done, she pushed me to the mirror to show me the transformation that she has done.
"You look stunning," she said, grinning. I even nodded at her words. I couldn't believe it. Even I could look this damn gorgeous! I couldn't stop staring at myself.
The little strapless black dress that had a white bow belt with it fitted my body perfectly, even though we struggled a lot to put it on me. The dress was a bit above my knees so it was revealing the long, white legs that I didn't know I had. I wore black stilettos that I secretly had, but never used yet. I didn't wear too much accessories and make up. It was just simple. My hair, long and wavy, swayed beautifully behind me as I turned a couple of times.
Vanessa looked adorable in her baby blue party dress and white wedges. She had her hair in a bun and she had a tiny crown to keep it in place. She wore huge white earrings which looked heavy at first, but it made her look even more like a doll.
Once we were ready and done, we headed to the party. During the drive I tried to plan out in my how it would all go. Part of me was excited to get in there, while the other prayed for the car's engine to break down and we would end up not going anymore.
"It took me a lot of effort to get you to look like that." Vanessa gave me a stressful look. I bowed my head, feeling stupid and embarrassed. It only took us 15 minutes to get to the place. Vanessa immediately parked the car and got out quickly. She came to my side and forced me out. She pulled -- more like dragged -- me to the front of the building where she met up with a guy.
"Hey! You look cute," he said, hugging and kissing Vanessa on the cheeks.
"Thanks." She hugged and kissed him back. Then she turned to me. "What do you think of her?" she asked, smiling.
"Beautiful!" he said out loud. "I'm Drake," the tall guy said as he held out his hand.
"O-oh...! I'm Mazarie," I said nervously as I shook his hand. He smiled.
"Nice to meet you." I looked back at Vanessa and she giggled.
"Let's go in," she said and the three of us entered the building.
When we got inside, I felt an urge to go back. I wasn't comfortable with surroundings like these. Loud music, the smell of alcohol, perfume, and sweat at the same time, and a crowded area with a lot of unknown people. I was in a place where I didn't belong. Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked behind to see that it was Drake.
"Don't be scared," he said. I looked at Vanessa and she nodded.
"You'll be fine," she tried to encourage me. I gave her a nervous smile. We walked around together and met some friends. Well, Drake and Vanessa met their friends and I just tagged along. Just when more people came Drake's friends took him away from us so now it was just me and Vanessa left.
"Can we go home now?" I begged.
"We haven't found him yet," she said, a bit annoyed.
"C'mon Vanessa! Let's just leave." I tried to pull her towards the exit but she shrugged me off.
"No." Her voice was dead serious mode. "Rie, this is your chance to get him." She placed her hands on my shoulders looking into my eyes. "You need to take revenge on him, right? Isn't that the reason why we're here?" I looked away, not sure about what to respond. "You can do it, Rie!" She cheered. "You can do it! I know you can!" She was already shaking me and I began to feel dizzy.
"I can't..." I said, softly. "I don't think I can, Vanessa. I give up. Let's go home." I looked up and met her cold gaze. She slowly let go of me and shook her head.
"I'm gonna go get something to drink," she said and left me. I tried to catch up with her, but she quickly disappeared into the crowd. I was beginning to get scared and really nervous. I didn't know what to do. Suddenly, I felt my eyes tearing up. I need to get out, I told myself, holding in the tears. I searched for my way out passing through the tight spaces of the crowded dance floor, but it seems like when I try to escape it's like God sends something to stop me.
"Oh!" The guy exclaimed as we bumped into each other. "Sorry miss," he quickly apologized. I looked up at him without thinking and when he caught a glimpse of my face his eyes widened.
"It's okay. I-" I would've continued my sentence but he immediately grabbed my hand.
"Come with me," he said, gently holding my hand as we walked away from the people.
We went up to the second floor then out to the balcony. It's still noisy and cold too, but it's much better than the bar. He told me to sit down and wait. He left but came back quickly with a glass of water. He handed it to me and I looked at him with surprise.
"I don't think it's a good idea to drink alcohol when you have problems," he said. I softly giggled and he smiled. He gave me the glass and I immediately gulped it all down in one drink. "You must be thirsty." He looked at the empty glass in my hands.
"Parched to be exact," I replied.
"Want me to get a refill for you?" He offered and I nodded. He left again and came back with a full glass.
"Thanks again," I said with a smile as I took the glass from him. He smiled and sat down on the floor in front of me.
"This party's too much, don't you think?" He said wiping away the sweat on his forehead. "Though, I didn't expect to see anyone crying tonight." I looked away in embarrassed.
"Sorry, it's just that I-" He chuckled.
"No, no, no. It's okay. No need to tell me." I looked at him and he flashed me a smile. "Well, you're out of there already. So what're you planning to do next?" I looked at him confused. "You seemed so eager to leave and you looked like you were sad or something."
Finding the right words to say, I made up a lie. "It was just a bad timing really. My boyfriend broke up with me on the phone a few minutes ago and... Well, you know what happens next."
"Ohh... I'm sorry." Then there was silence.
"It's alright," I said, putting on a small smile. "I'll get over it."
He smiled. "Well, I know you could." Then there was silence. We both sat there for awhile without a word until he spoke again. "I must get back, but I don't feel right leaving you here."
"I'll be fine," I told him. He stood there for a while like he was thinking of something.
"Why don't you come with me instead?" He offered. I was debating whether I should go back in and find Vanessa or I should just stay here.
"C'mon," he urged, gently pulling me up by my arms. I ended up going back in to the uncomfortable atmosphere. We stayed for a while at the second floor as I tagged along with him. After chatting with a few of his friends, we both went to the third floor.
"Follow my lead," he said, gently holding my hand pulling me closer to him. We headed towards a round table occupied by guys. They were all talking and laughing loudly which made the open airy space a bit noisy.
"Hey guys," he greeted when we reached the table.
"Dude! You're finally here!" One of then exclaimed. "What took you so long?"
"Sorry. I had to take care of some matters," he said and winked at me. I felt myself blush as I looked away.
"I see you have some company here," another guy said.
"Oh, her?" I looked at him. He was smiling. "She's my new girlfriend," he said, wrapping an arm around my shoulders and pulling me close to his side.
"Miss," a guy called. "I suggest you to back out while you can." I faced him with a confused look.
"You don't wanna be with a sadist like Danny." I focused back at the guy who told everyone here that I was his date.
"Don't tell her that kind of info," he said, chuckling. A waiter brought us two chairs and we sat down with the others. I noticed that I was the only girl in this group, more like the only girl in this floor.
"Don't worry," Danny patted my back. "We guys ain't gonna bite you."
"We own this floor," one of them mentioned. "We can let anyone in and out only if they know us." He looked at me. "You're lucky to know that guy," he said pointing at Danny. "He doesn't bring girls here, even his past exes. You're the first."
"Well, she must be special," another guy interjected. I felt my cheeks blush. Although none of it was real, I was still flattered by this small group of men.
"Guys, why don't you become gentlemen and introduce yourselves to her," Danny mentioned. Suddenly, the four men stood up. The one with blond hair introduced himself first.
"I'm Dale," he said, shaking my hand.
The next one was a redhead. "Lucas. Nice to meet you," he smiled.
The last two were twins. "I'm Jake and this is Jack." I looked at them confused. "Just look at our dimples to tell the difference," the other, who I suppose is Don, said. "Jake has a dimple on his left and mine is on the right." Then they both flashed me matching smiles.
"Oh, um, I'm Mazarie," I introduced myself, "but you can call me Rie."
After all the introducing was done, they went on with a conversation about themselves. I sat there quietly, but smiled and laughed every now and then.
"So how's school, Danny?" Dale asked with a mischievous smile.
"Seriously? You have to ask?" Danny frowned. "You know me already. Don't expect much."
"We just hope you'll at least graduate," Lucas said and we laughed, except for Danny.
"Oh and by the way," Dale turned, facing my way. "Where do you go to, Rie?"
"I go to Barton High School," I answered a bit shyly.
"So you go to the same school as Danny," Jake said.
"Is that how you met?" Jack asked.
"Uh, I---"
"Yup!" Danny interjected. I looked at him and he gave me a warm smile. I'll let him do the lying, I thought.
"You're both classmates?" Lucas questioned.
"We---" I was about to respond until someone unexpected arrived at our table.
"Sorry, I'm late," he said and sat down beside Dale.
"Dude, where were you? You missed a lot," Dale said.
He rubbed his face and ran his hand through his dark brown hair like he was stressed. "Girlfriend problems."
"Then break up with her," Jack suggested.
"It's not that easy, you know. And I don't think I should. We haven't been that long."
"Since when have you been partly loyal?" Lucas asked.
"Ever since that happened."
"Well, I hope you get over whatever you're going through," Dale said.
"Yeah. I hope so, too." Then his eyes rolled to me.
"Who's this?"
"She's Little Daniel's new girlfriend," Jake answered.
"She looks familiar. Have I seen you before?" He focused on me.
"You go to the same school," Jack mentioned.
"Yeah, I know. Wait..." He looked liked he was trying to remember. "You're that girl I bumped into before, right? You said you were the new student."
"Uh, y-yeah..."
"Oh, well, sorry about before," he apologized. "By the way, I'm Matt."
"I'm Mazarie."
"Mazarie... Sounds familiar," then he just shrugged.
For the whole time we had left there, we continued talking and chatting about other random teenage things. It was fun although there were a few times I felt awkward whenever Matt looks at me, but Danny was there keep me comfortable. After the party had ended, we all parted ways. Jake and Jack left first since Jake had too much booze, followed by Lucas who needed to get back before midnight, then Dale who had to go ahead 'cause it's a long drive to his place.
So now it was just us three -- me, Danny, and Matt.
"I better get going to," I said, getting up from my seat.
"Is there someone picking you up?" Danny asked. I thought for awhile, but then shook my head.
"I'll drive you then," he offered kindly. "How about you Matt?"
"I got my car," he said.
"No driver this time?"
"Nah, I just got my license back," he corrected. "Well, I must head off. Good night." Then Matt left.
We headed to the parking lot my jaw dropped the moment I saw his car.
"You own a Lamborghini Gallardo?!" I exclaimed.
Danny chuckled at my expression. "Gorgeous, isn't it?"
"Very! How'd you get one?"
"Birthday gift from my dad."
"You're dad's a millionaire?!"
"Billionaire to be exact," he corrected.
"Wow. Just...WOW." He smiled and opened the door for me as I got in the luxurious vehicle. He got in the driver's seat and we headed off to my place. The ride to my place with his car was more quick than when I rode with Vanessa.
When we arrived, Danny quickly got out and ran to the other side of his car to open the door for me. I smiled at his kind gesture. The lights inside Aunt Aubrey's house were out by the time we got there, and only the lights outside the garage and front door were on.
"So..." Danny tried to start the conversation. I giggled at his awkwardness.
"Thanks for tonight," I said with a shy smile.
"No probs," he replied.
"I should get in now."
"And I should be heading home." Just when we both turned away I turned back and called out.
"Will I see you at school?" I asked, feeling desperate to see him again.
"Well, we both go to the same school. I believe we will," he answered, smiling.
I felt a rush of relief go through my body. "I look forward to it." As I was about to turn the doorknob he called.
"I hope you get over whatever you're going through."
A smiled formed on my lips. "I think I already did."
He grinned. "Good night."
"Good night." He got in his car and I watched him drive off to the distance until I couldn't see him anymore.
Hey peeps! I'm so so vey sorry for not updating for a looooong time. I couldn't use my Wattpad account for awhile, but now I'm back. I've made this chapter a bit longer than the previous ones. Sorry if it's not that good. I didn't really have a lot of good ideas to add in there. I apologize also for any wrong grammars, punctuations, and misspelled words. I'll do better next time.
BTW I don't know when I'll update so the next chapter might take awhile. Sorry about that.
Also thank you so so so much for those who are still reading. I love you guys! You make me feel like my work isn't so bad than how I really think it is. A massive thanks to all of you! :D
I look forward to your comments about this chapter. And don't forget to vote, too! Thanks again! :)
