Chapter 2

15th May, afternoon

The plain little girl was on cloud nine. She still had that tingly feeling from yesterday. It was so pleasant, though no one could possibly understand that. Everything she looked at seemed brighter, shinier. And in her heart, she knew that the plain little boy was experiencing the same thing.

That day, she and her mother had planned a flight to Asia so that, for the first time, the girl could meet her cousins. She was excited but the plain little boy would miss her and she would too.

The little girl felt like going for a walk, so she told her mum she would take a stroll down the meadow. Her mum, as always, agreed.

The little girl sauntered out of the house until she stopped when she arrived in the middle of the meadow. The yellow flowers were encircling her, making her feel safe and protected. She inhaled the fresh air, then exhaled. Inhale. Exhale.

She spread her arms out and turned to the direction of the wind, letting her hair flow. Today, the sky was blue, crystal clear. We could not see a single cloud. It was truly marvelous.

She looked out to the endless skies and she wondered, would her and the little boy's love be as endless as these skies? Would they get married? Have kids? If she'd have a girl, she'd call her Lily-Rose. And if it be a boy, then she'd name him Sam.

She was still contemplating the view, when an orange butterfly flew by, distracted her, and she started chasing it, her tiny fingers tirelessly trying to grasp the small flying creature.

When you think about it, it sounds so innocent: a child chasing a butterfly... But didn't you see the other word?

Distracted.

Yes, she was distracted. What if she hadn't been?

Well, let me tell you, nobody would have died.
