She was born with a disease cystic fibrosis, which makes her scared to make any other friends. So, before she got detention with the other five, she had distanced herself aware of her reality and she doesn't want to bring down other people with her when her disease finally takes her life.

She in all honesty, had pretty much lived taking her treatments since she is a very much particular person when it comes to doing that.

When she and her new friends talk, she lets them into her life and she learns that it's okay to have people who support her through her trials, and she's just as there as she can be for them.

A week before she got detention, her brother Will had been cliff diving, and he landed wrong and broke his neck and drowned.
