Chapter 12: First Practice

Run MV plays a role as you read the chapter so you can listen to it as you read.

There is nothing better than an HD photo of Jeongguk 😉

Jeonnguk ran his hand through his hair in frustration as he hadn't gotten proper sleep all night because of the argument he had with his fiancée.

Was I too harsh on her? He thought as he gazed at himself in the mirror, paying close attention to the size of the bags under his eyes.

He sighed once as he realized how noticeable they were. Shaking his head, he headed out, hoping that no one would notice them.

Jeongguk got greeted by everyone as he walked through Big Hit and he greeted back each one. Most people had been here as long as him or even longer and seeing them always gave him motivation. They were all like family to him and the rest of the members. Once, he reached the practice room, he expected at least one or two members to be there, but he was shocked to see the practice room empty. Not thinking much about it, he sat down on the floor, waiting for the members to arrive.

An hour had passed and yet there was no sign of anyone so he decided to text them.

Guys, where are you all?~ Jeongguk

I'm training Eira ~ Taehyung

It's today???~ Jeongguk

Don't tell me you forgot~ Taehyung

Jeongguk shut his phone and ran out of the practice room to find Cecilia. He had completely forgotten that they would start helping the girls today. He just hope that Cecilia would still be there.

Pushing the door, he sighed in relief when he saw Cecilia, but it was soon replaced by a completely different emotion. She was absorbed in dancing that she hadn't noticed him yet.

He couldn't stop staring even if he wanted to as he felt stuck in a spell watching her move effortlessly across the dance floor. Her body moved to each beat and he realized she wasn't just dancing, she was interpreting the song and adding meaning to each move.

When he came to his senses a bit, he realized she was dancing to Run, a very old song of theirs. Even though Jeongguk had watched many ARMYs cover their song and he was grateful for all the effort they put in, he could tell that some of them had just practiced it and performed as their dancing held nothing, but he knew everyone couldn't dance like that, yet the girl in front of him had done just that. She danced as if she had experienced it as if, she was going through it.

The song came to an end and Jeongguk clapped his hands causing Cecilia to look at him only for a short second before she turned her face away, not knowing what to say.

"Wow!" Jeongguk exclaimed as his doe brown eyes dilated. "That was beautiful."

"Thank you," Cecilia mumbled a reply as she could feel her heart beating fast not only because she was short on breath but also because her bias had just seen her dance to one of their songs.

OMG, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS JUST HAPPENED. WHEN DID HE GET HERE? HOW MUCH DID HE SEE? WHY DIDN'T HE STOP ME? HE ACTUALLY LIKED IT? her whole mind was going haywire with so many emotions that it was hard not to show any.

Jeongguk noticed how her eyes widened ever so slightly and she stood in her place with a lost expression on her face. That's when he realized, she must be having a mental breakdown.

"Cecilia," he said as he waved his hands in front of her, snapping her out of her thoughts. "Ready for practice?"

"Uh yeah," she replied as she felt her cheeks getting red.

"I'm sorry for making you wait so long," Jeongguk told her as they walked to the center of the practice room.

"I forgot we had practice today," He replied as he touched his neck in embarrasment.

"It okay," Cecilia smiled at him. "I did not feel time long."

Jeongguk nods. He was about to explain how she could improve the dance, but there was something else itching his mind and he knew if he didn't ask her, it would keep bothering him.

"Why did you pick this song?" Jeongguk finally asked. "You could have practiced the group song we were going to practice yet you choose this...why?"

Cecilia felt taken back by the question not because she didn't have the answer, but because she didn't know how to explain what she felt. That song was perfect when all she wanted to do was run away. Even though the song spoke about running away from love, she was not running away from a relationship, but from everything. Her mood determined the way she thought of the lyrics.

"Practice group song is work and dance for me is fun so work is not fun," Cecilia explained while she used her hands to try to explain the situation, something Jeongguk found adorable. " I pick run because I feel it not because of the same meaning."

Jeongguk nodded, hoping that he had understood what she meant. He guessed he would be seeing her perform different songs more often as she preferred dancing as a hobby.

"I can see that you are struggling with Korean, so I can teach you Korean if you want," Jeongguk suggested.

Cecilia froze again as she felt thrilled and didn't want to show it. It was going to be hard suppressing her emotions around Jeongguk as he always managed to evoke so many emotions in her. It was like she was her own surprise as she never knew what emotion she would feel next. Instead of her knowing her own emotions, it felt like he knew hers.

"I would love that," Cecilia answered, giving him her brightest smile.

Then, the lesson started. Cecilia watched intently as Jeongguk performed the routine in front of her trying her best to absorb every detail, but it was more difficult than she imagined. She tried focussing on the way his arms moved but ended up admiring the veins that popped in his skin and the way his arms would flex, making her blush crimson. Then, she tried focussing on his footwork, and she was doing so well until her eyes started scanning him up and down. His body was the perfect proportion of body and legs. His shoulders were broad yet his waist was thin. His legs were long as well as his arms. There was something about him that was so satisfying to look at and made it impossible for her to tear her eyes away and it didn't help the fact that he was wearing skinny jeans which emphasized his toned legs and half sleeve-black teeshirt that stuck to his perfectly buffed chest.

As Jeongguk danced, he could feel Cecilia's eyes studying his moves, but why did it feel like she wasn't fully there? Even though he could feel her gaze sometimes, whenever he looked at her, her gaze was down.

"Do you understand your mistakes a bit better now?" Jeongguk asked as he finished the dance.

What the heck? I have no idea what he explained. Damn you Jeongguk and your perfect perfectness, Cecilia panicked but nodded.

Jeongguk went back and gave her room to perform.

Why the heck did I just nod? I have no idea what I'm supposed to fix, Cecilia panicked on the inside as she saw Jeongguk give her a thumbs up.

Cecilia started to dance ignoring the way her heart was beating and her palms that kept getting sweatier and sweatier and hoped that whatever mistake she made before, she wouldn't do it again. Once she could finally feel the music, Cecilia found herself unbothered by Jeongguk's presence which she made her feel like she was getting some where. She listened to the melody and hummed it as she danced away.

Jeongguk realized what he thought was true, she wasn't focussed on him as he found her making the same mistake again. Not wanting to disrupt her performance, he walked slowly behind her and fixed her arms slightly which froze Cecilia in her place.

"You have to loosen your movements over here," he explained gently, not realizing how much his velvety words and closeness were affecting the poor girl.

Cecilia somehow managed to nod as Jeongguk moved away from her and she redid the part.

Jeongguk smiled in approvement and told her to continue.

This continued for the remainder of the song. Jeongguk would walk up to her and she would almost get a heart attack, but try her best to fix the mistake.

"I think that's enough for today," Jeongguk stated. "We went through the whole song once in details and now I want you to work on the first half and then next time, second half. This way, everything will be easier for you."

"When is next practice?" Cecilia asked.

"When is the next practice?" Jeongguk stated emphasizing the 'the', so she could fix it. "Same time, next week."

Cecilia repeated what he said. She was grateful that he was helping her, but at the same time she was embarrassed about messing up so much in front of him.

"I will see you next time," Cecilia replied to him and he smiled as he watched her think of each word.

************

Jeongguk met up with BTS in the practice room and boy did they look tired, but their faces lit up when they saw their youngest member.

"Jeongguk!" Hoseok exclaimed when he noticed him. "You don't look as tired. What's your secret?"

"I don't know," Jeongguk shrugged. "I'm tired too but Cecilia is a pretty good learner. It's hard for  her at the beginning but the more she practices the better she gets."

"It's not fair," Jimin whines. "You literally have the easiest job in the world."

"No, I don't," Jeongguk argued. " My job might seem easy, but it's still draining."

"Now, we all know that's a big lie," Namjoon joined the conversation. " Cecilia was one of the easiest to deal with and it's not like you have to help someone who can't dance at all."

"Fine, I have it a bit easier than you all," Jeongguk admitted, but the members looked at him like if you don't change your answer, you are doomed. "Okay, I have it the easiest."

"That's why practice is canceled for today since we are all too drained,so-" Namjoon was telling them, but got interrupted.

"We party!" Taehyung exclaimed and all the boy cheered as Namjoon facepalmed.

"Sure, we party," Namjoon mumbled to himself.

*************

Jeongguk threw himself on his bed and grabbed his phone to scroll through, but realized it was off, so he quickly turned it on. Once the phone was on, he saw ten miss calls and a hundred messages from his fiancee.

He felt bad for leaving things as they were and decided to call her.

"Jeongguk," she said in relief. "Please listen to me."

"I am," Jeongguk replied.

"I'm sorry for acting that way yesterday," Yun Hee explained. "It's just that I didn't like the way you spoke about my sister. She might seem bad, but she really isn't and let's be honest, who wouldn't want to be taught by The Jeon Jeongguk."

"I guess, but you told me that your sister is a fan of all of us, so shouldn't she be happy if she is taught by any of us?" Jeongguk asked.

"She is, but like I don't think Namjoon Oppa can help her reach her full potential," Yun Hee tried to explain, but she didn't realize that she was making it worse.

"Why not?" Jeongguk asked in a monotone voice. "Namjoon hyung is a really good dancer and can help her improve more than I can as he struggled as well so he is more patient. I would lose my patience and wouldn't be able to figure it out. I'm sure Hoseok hyung can as well since he helps all of us."

"Just help her once," Yun Hee pleaded.

"No," Jeongguk replied to her immediately. "I trust my hyung and you should do."

Yun Hee realized there was no getting through Jeongguk and let the topic go.

"I trust you and the rest," Yun Hee said.

"Good," Jeongguk answered and it went quite and Yun Hee realized she fixed nothing.

"Let's meet in a while if you are free," Yun Hee suggested as she hoped meeting Jeongguk might fix things.

"You are not busy?" Jeongguk asked surprised she had suggested that they meet up during peak fashion season when she was the busiest.

"Today is my only free day," Yun Hee explained.

"I'll see you in a bit," Jeonnguk replied as he closed the call.

Jeongguk was confused about the whole situation. Why did it feel like things were falling apart? He loved her and she loved him then why couldn't they fix this small problem. Jeongguk shook his head. He was definitely overthinking this as they have had longer fights than this one and it was common for couples to fight.

He heard a knock and opened it to find his beautiful fiancee staring at him with the brightest smile.

"I missed you," she pouted as she hugged him.

Jeongguk wrapped his arms around her and took in the sweet smell of her perfume.

"I missed you too," Jeongguk told her as they pulled away.

"Let's not fight ever again," Yun Hee told him. "I hate fighting with you."

"Sure," Jeongguk replied, but he felt like something was wrong.

Yun Hee decided that they should watch a movie and Jeonguk agreed as they walked towards the sofa.

The movie was nice and he loved the feeling of holding his fiancee near, but why did something feel off like they forgot to do something and they didn't. Jeongguk shook off this feeling and tried focussing on the movie. He was overthinking stuff and he knew it.
