Herbs

June walked onto the ship behind Zuko as her pet stayed on land as everyone was working or watching. June jogged to the side and ran down the stairs to see Katara sitting in the cell. The two girls locked eye contact and June hummed impressed while Katara glared.

"You actually caught her, wow," June called back surprised as Katara got to her feet and grabbed the bars.

"Who the fuck are you?" Katara snarled as June sat on the stairs to watch the girl curiously.

"Oh captain sold you to me, you'll make me some good gold," June smiled calmly.

Katara gasped fearfully letting go of the bars as Zuko walked down the stairs but looked back at June confused.

"You're not funny," Zuko told her as he went to grab food from the pantry on the side.

"I thought it was realistic," June clasped her hands over her lap staying on the stairs.

"You're not going to sell me right?" Katara asked him wide eyes. Zuko grabbed a mango and started slicing it into bite size pieces in a bowl around the large seed.

"For now no," he shrugged. "If I need too, then maybe,"

"Oh so you get to make jokes but I'm mean when I do?" June pouted a little as he handed her the bowl of fruit and he wiped his hands off on a towel and threw the seed in a barrel.

"Don't worry princess, if I wanted to sell you for gold I wouldn't have bothered getting you clothes," Zuko grabbed the bag by June and tossed it to her.

"June head back to my quarters, I'll meet you there, here's water for xan," he handed June a pitcher of water.

"Ugh I have to go alone? He's going to Bitch at me," June groaned holding the fruit and water.

"Stay in my part, he's in his own room," Zuko whispered in her ear so Katara didn't hear. She nodded softly and got up.

"Change," Zuko turned back to Katara frowning.

"Excuse me?!" She yelled turning red.

Zuko walked over to the cell and pressed his back against the metal bars so he wasn't facing her and watched the stairs. Katara looked at him horrified as she held the bag of clothes to her chest.

"There's no way in hell I'm changing in front of you!" She scoffed looking away wide eyes.

"I swear I won't look, I'm keeping look out for creeps that might peep, I'm an honorable man," Zuko crossed his arms leaning against the metal. Katara paused for a moment and looked at him not sure if she should trust his words.

She opened the bag and pulled out the clothes, she saw tan trousers and a black baggy long sleeve, she pulled out a bralette and threw it at the back of zukos head as he yelled surprised.

"You pervert what the fuck?!" She cried out glaring as Zuko turned around confused.

"They're old clothes, belonged to the old captains wife, I didn't go shopping for you," Zuko scoffed turning around again and kicked the top back inside. Katara huffed as she slid the pants on under the dress, they were loose but had strings to tighten around the high waist.

She sighed giving in and took the straps off her shoulder and pulled the long sleeve over the top of the dress, only to shimmy out of the dress completely so she was already fully dressed. Keeping an eye on the captain the whole time, he didn't move in the slightest.

She grabbed the bralette and put it on under the shirt as her arms were on the inside, it was laced and went down the middle of her back, it was a little tight but she couldn't complain for the support. She pulled her arms through the long sleeve but the shirt fell off her shoulder, with a grunt she tucked in the shirt to the trousers and tied the strings to suit her hips better.

"Shoes?" She huffed kicking the fancy dress in the corner for a blanket.

"The shoes are to small," Zuko explained as Katara stood barefoot as the trousers ended just below her knees.

"They're old boots, might be big," he set them on the ground.

"Whos are they?" She walked over and grabbed the boots.

"Her name was kio," Zuko shrugged.

"Was?" Katara slipped the boots on, they fit well enough to stay in.

"Got shot, her blood might still be on those," Zuko looked down at the boots curiously. Her jaw dropped.

"Kidding, we keep the clothes that are left behind or grow out of, when I was young I had to wear women's clothes because those were the only ones that fit me," Zuko crossed her arms as he rolled his eyes at the memory.

"Ha you wore women's clothes?" She smiled a little at him as they were a foot apart.

"I was a kid, they don't have kid clothes on here," he shrugged.

"What made You special?" Katara asked curious now.

"Pity," he looked down at her calmly. "They pitied me, and I begged to stay,"

"How old?" She gulped a little.

"I was old enough to work so they kept me around, took me under their wing and taught me how to sail, happiest I've ever been since," Zuko shrugged a little as Katara swallowed a lump in her throat.

"If someone besides ty Lee comes down here alone, scream, I'll come get them," he nodded sternly before going up the stairs to head to his quarters.

He ignored everyone as he walked across the docks and went straight to his quarters, Mai was about to stop him but he closed the door on her and locked it behind.

"Sorry that took longer than I thought," he sighed as Jin was looking around his room curiously.

"Xan, wake up, got company," Zuko knocked on the door to alert the old man before walking in.

"Did you finally get me a hooker?" Xan asked sarcastically as he was reading a book. He looked up and gagged immediately seeing his only child.

"That's illegal no," Zuko poured him water and handed it to the man.

"Hey Xan," June sat in the chair on the other side of the room.

"Hey June bug," he grinned but she glared.

"No,"

"Alright that's my bad, that's on me," Xan agreed.

"Shrimpy over here says your medicines not working, what do you need?" June crossed her arms and legs leaning back in her chair as Xan ate the mango slices.

"I don't even know, the herbs made it easier to sleep but..." Xan looked down disappointed as Zuko watched concerned.

"Are you keeping food down? Fevers?" June sighed relaxing in front of her father.

"I'm coughing and throwing up, no fever though," he gulped. "No appetite, I don't even want mango,"

"You hate mango," June said flatly.

"Exactly, I don't even care," Xan agreed.

"I'll go looking today what could kept at least keep you sleeping and keeping the food down, see if anyone can figure out what you even have," she looked at him then Zuko calmly as the two men nodded.

"Thank you June," Xan smiled softly.

"Don't mention it," she glared. "I still hate You,"

"Yea I know, you get too, I'm a shitty father, got my two kids in here and can't even act like a man," he chuckled weakly and Zuko gulped a little.

June noticed the boy keeping his eyes down, she could tell he was guilty, that he felt helpless, he couldn't do much else. She cared more about her brother than her father now, Zuko still had a chance in life, he never did her wrong like Xan had.

"I'll be back tomorrow around sunset, don't go anywhere you assholes," June forced herself up with a groan.

"We left you once at the market," Zuko smirked a little at her.

"This is why I let you at least stay two nights at the jails you get stuck at," she scoffed rolling her eyes.
