Chapter 4. Ghosts

Ron couldn't believe his eyes as he stepped through the portal.

The sky was green and purple. Thousands of doors of all shapes and colors floated throughout the air. Random chunks of floating land drifted about.

In the distance a castle loomed.

It was silver and black, a large crest hanging on its flag, a DP.

Ron was too scared to wonder what it meant. He brushed up against Fred and jumped when he no longer passed through him.

The twins and Ginny were still, like most of the group, in a trance but they were beginning to come out of it.

A few upperclassmen had picked up their siblings or were holding their hands tightly, eyes on the pair of ghosts who had sang them into the portal, hands tight on their wands.

A seventh year tried to aparate with his sister but to no avail.

Everyone soon came out of the daze and most began to cry, held tight by their siblings or friends as they panicked. The ghosts waited until they had calmed down, older students explaining what had happened.

“Bloody Hell, Fred.” George said, his eyes clearing. “Where are we. Are we dreaming?”

“Why would Ron be here then?”

“Hey!”

“Welcome to the Infinite Realms.”

The students looked up to see a blue haired woman floating just above the ground. “Im Ember. The King asked me to sing you all here. Well, most of you. We had some tagalongs. But the more the merrier. Anyways. Don't worry. You'll be out of here in a week or so. Think of it as a vacation. If you want to know why your here, lets just say that its complicated.”

“Schools out!” Fred yelled as Lee Jordan made his way to them.

“That's the spirit! Now. Let's get to Phantom's keep. I'm sure your all hungry.”

She played a riff on her guitar and a glowing bridge appeared, connecting the island, which was about the size of the great Hall, to the Castle in the distance.

A seventh year tested it warily, his second year brother never leaving his side, and declared it solid, making Ember smirk.

Soon they were on their way, walking for about five minutes until they reached the massive front doors.

It was almost as big as Hogwarts, huge towers extending up hundreds of feet as battlements sat ready on the walls.

Ember played a quick tune and the doors opened.

They filed inside, walking through the courtyard and into the main hall.

Ember had floated down and was leading them on foot.

They came to a room that looked like a muggle school cafeteria.

Another ghost, this one green skinned and large, floated behind a counter. “Hello children. Would you like some pie?”

A few nodded and she grinned.

Muggleborns knew what to do and they lined up, the rest soon following their way through the lunch line.

Soon everyone was just chatting and relaxing.

No one noticed the black haired boy with blue eyes that had mixed in with the crowd.

He sat next to the Weasley's and got to chatting.

“Hi. Im Danny.” He said. He looked like a first year.

“Fred.” Said George.

“George.” Said Fred.

“Ron.” Said Ron, rolling his eyes as Ginny introduced herself.

Now that they weren't outside it was easier to not panic.

“What do you think the Ministry will do?” Danny asked. “I mean. Four hundred kids go missing. I'm sure they're panicking. I just want to go home, no matter how cool this place is."

“The first thing they'll do is blame Harry or Dumbledore. Probably both.” Ginny said.

Danny looked confused. “Who's Harry?”

“You don't know the Boy- Who- Lived?” Fred asked. Or was it George?

Danny shook his head. “I didn't know I had magic until last year.”

“Its bad, mate.” Fred said as the Weasley’s quickly got the first year up to date on current events.

“The ministry sounds like a load of twats.” Danny concluded.

“Exactly.” All four Weasleys said.

“Anything else you should tell me?”

Ron was instantly wary but his siblings seemed to be in some sort of trance.

“Well Dumbledore has the Order up and running. Their trying to fight You know who but it's slow going.” Fred said.

“What's the Order?”

“Its a group of wizards who believe Dumbledore. They've been fighting since he returned.”

Ron stared in horror as he noticed that Danny's eyes were glowing a toxic green.

“Your not a wizard, are you?” Ron said, aiming his wand.

Danny looked at him in surprise. “That's odd. I thought it was you and the girl who were entranced and the twins followed. Not the other way around. Had to grow up fast?”

Ron glared. “ Stop whatever it is your doing.”

Danny raised his hands defensively, smirking. “Make you a deal. You tell me everything about this ‘'Order’ and I'll let go of your brothers’ and sister's minds. I don't really like doing this anyways so its a win for both of us.”

Ron glanced between his glazed over brothers and sister and Danny, who was grinning.

“Deal.”

Instantly, his eyes returned to blue and Fred and George and Ginny snapped out of it.

“What was I saying?” George asked.

“You were talking about how much of an arrogant twat the minister is.” Danny said, effortless erasing any notion they had once again been entranced.

“Oh yeah. Fudge is completely useless. He want to put his head in the sand and do nothing. Pretend the problem isn't there.”

They talked for a few more minutes until Danny found an excuse to get both Ron and himself away.

“I need to use the loo. Ron want to help me find one? I kinda don't want to go alone.” He looked at the ghosts nervously as he met Ron's eyes as his irises flashed green.

“Sure.” Ron said hesitantly. “Best to stick together.”

Instantly the twins started teasing him and Danny's eyes widened in revelation. “That's why.” He said to himself.

Ron followed “Danny” out the door, speaking quickly to a ghostly guard at the entrance.

He let them pass.

Danny lead Ron around the corner. As soon as they were out of sight of the cafeteria white rings of light appeared around Danny's waist. They split in two, traveling from head to toe, transforming the human back into his true form.

His hair turned white as snow and his eyes a toxic green. He looked older than Ron now, almost an adult. He wore a white cloak and black armor, setting back to the floor to walk along Ron, who was too nervous to speak.

“I apologize for the deception. I wanted as much information as possible. It seems I should have come to you.”

His voice was deep with an echo of power behind it.

“Who are you?”

“I'm still Danny. Just a ghost instead of a wizard.”

“I thought ghosts couldn't interact with the world.”

“Peeves can, correct? He also has color.”

Ron realised he was right. “So your a poltergeist?”

Danny shook his head. “I was using him as an example that ghosts can interact with the mortal plane. However the more powerful ghosts stay here, in the Infinite Realms. It is in staying here that our powers are retained. If your wizarding ghost came here they would eventually gain the same abilities as me albeit at a lesser extent."

Danny lead Ron through the halls, servant ghosts bowing as he went.

Finally, they reached a study of sort, the ghost swinging around the desk and motioning for Ron to sit in an armchair.

Ron sat, hand gripping his wand hidden in his robes.

“Start at the beginning.” He ordered, leaning forward and resting on his hands.

Ron felt like he was in the headmasters office.

“I don't know much. Mum said only wizards who were of age could join the Order of the Phoenix.  All I know is what I overheard. And that's the fact they are fighting you-know-who from the shadows and keeping some sort of weapon from him. I don't know what it is. Just that it dangerous and in the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry. I know that Dumbledore is in charge. And they are the only ones actually trying to do anything to stop You-know-who.”

Danny nodded. “I see. I will send a message this Dumbledore, ask him to bring me the shards.”

“Can I ask you some questions now?”

Danny nodded. “Fair is fair.””

“Why did you kidnap students? Why didn't you just go find him yourself?”

Danny sighed. “Think of it as a scale. Ghost abilities and Magic are on either side. Complete opposites.  Most humans, Muggles, are perfectly balanced. Thus they are affected equally by both. But Wizards are leaning heavily towards magic, just as ghosts lean towards ghost abilities. They don't mix. For example. If I was to hit a human with an ectoplasmic blast.” his hand lit up with green flames. “It would have the same effect as a stunning spell. But if I was to hit you with one. You would barely feel it. Same if you hit me with a stunner.”

Ron nodded. “So magic and ghosts don't mix. So why did you take us?”

“Wizard kids are closer to muggles. Their magic is still flowering. They haven't fallen completely to one side yet. You-know-who has. I'm hoping to force your government to apprehend the ones I seek and bring them here. Only a wizard can beat a wizard. Only a ghost can beat a ghost. It is an unprecedented move and I do apologize. But I had no choice. These wizards have torn a hole in reality and until they are returned I cannot repair it. So I take 400 children to save millions of ghosts and humans alike."

Ron nodded. “I understand.”

“Good. I will have a guard escort you back to to the cafeteria. Lunch Lady is very excited to have children to feed. Ghosts don't eat that much. After Breakfast you will be take to your dorms and given full rein of the castle baring private quarters and the armory. Im even allowing you to explore the realm provided another ghost takes responsibility for you.”

Ron smiled. No school and a castle full of strange magic to explore. Sounds fun.

Danny grinned. “Bullet?”

A ghost in a guards uniform appeared, my liege?”

“Please escort Mr. Weasley back to the mess hall. Then find Albion and bring him here.”

“Sir.”

The pair left and the King sat down, alone with his thoughts.

“All is as it should be.”

Danny turned around to see an old ghost with a.purple cloak and clock gears embedded in his chest, watches covering his arms.

“Clockwork.”

“This is necessary for the Infinite Realms to survive.”

“I know. Doesn't mean I have to like it.”

“All is as it should be.”

Danny sighed as Albion entered and clockwork vanished. “Lets begin.” He said.
