Part Two

"Run!" Pine's voice shook Dusk back into the present and he shoved her forward slightly. She stumbled forward and began racing through the halls with Pine charging beside her, making sure she was always within his line of sight. Dusk folded her wings and lowered her head as she heard the huge crowd of furious dragons chasing after them. She glanced sideways at her friend, "Pine!" She yelled over the roars and threats, "We won't make it!" But Pine stared on determinedly, not breaking pace. "Stay close to me." He replied, just loud enough for her to hear. Dusk's eye's narrowed nervously but she followed Pine as he ran swiftly. Where are we going? The thought suddenly hit her, What if we run into a dead end? Then we're both dead! She shook her head as if dismissing the negative thought (Change this into another word for thought.) She skidded to a stop with her wings flared as a rush of wind slapped against her face. Where are we? She wondered, she didn't remember flying through any sky-lights or one of the windows in the library. The library. She remembered with an inward hiss of longing the quiet afternoons she used to spend in the library, curled up with her wolf skin blanket reading one of her favorite scrolls. Pine hadn't stopped though, and he glanced back at her after an ungraceful scramble of a halt. "What are you doing?" He shouted to her as the first dragons of the crowd advanced towards them. "Come on!" Dusk realized that they had reached one of the exits of the palace; a huge door with a security system that could lock it tight so that no intruding tribes could sneak in, specifically Seawings and Icewings. Two guards stood posted at both sides of the tall door and their eyes widened with surprise at the tide of angry Nightwings. One of the guards fumbled for the security lock without taking her gaze from the crowd while the other scrambled for the handle. They both reached what they wanted at the same time and stared at each other with wide eyes as the clicking sound of the lock sounded. How will we escape now without breaking the door somehow? She glanced at Pine's cold glare and she realized he meant to smash down the door with his animus magic. "Pine no!" she said, mainly to herself, "I-I don't think we should-'' She tried to say louder, but she spoke too late and Pine snarled, "We are not dying today!" He leaped forward with his teeth bared and Dusk staring after him, terrified, as the exit slammed open.
