28. Be Careful Around Your Enemies

Posted august 3rd, 2020

I took the research on my enemies a step further.

My surgery was happening in two days. Until then, I didn't have time to postpone it. I was hard-headed.

But somehow, I knew the Enforcers of Peace's chef was too much into my business. Between Calumn, Father and Him, I think he was the most dangerous, and the most likely to be the neenmy. I didn't eveb have a face to associate with him.

After yesterday, I didn't think father would be against me. He helped me in the investigation. The secret man must be my stalker, with little dolls he controls and sends to tell him my every move.

I hacked into Supply's system, to know when one of their officers wouldn't be able to come to work.

Today, may second, was the day I received the alert.

A woman named Aaliah Boo called in sick. It was happened to be my day off. For once, I was lucky.

As soon as I received the notification at seven in the morning, I bought out my outfit from the closet. I called my personal makeup artists and dresser in my room. They didn't live with me. But they were hired by father, and always free to help.

I had to be unrecognizable. After an hour and a half, I was. I had a wig on with short dirty blond hair and highlights, a uniform with a customized name.

When I looked at my figure in the mirror, I could hardly believe it was me.

"you look unrecognizable." Said Glory, my makeup artist.

I left my house through the secret driveway under the building in an Air Car . the ghost mode on my AirCars really helped to keep me undercove. It wasn't the first time I needed to leave the house as someone other than Autumn Air.

I was finally at the building. It was big and round with an exterior field on the outside. When I passed the bulky wood doors – who had wood doors anymore?- my palms were sweating a lot. The first thing I noticed were all the new interns wearing blue shirts focused on their tasks at the dozes od tables in the atrium.

The few ones that looked at me got glares from their instructors. I straightened my back and frowned. I had to look like I was sulking too.

After passing to the reception, registering my name, and being explained where a few of the areas were, I was left on my own there. Nobody told me what to do.

I managed to get the dozens of young adults between seventeen and twenty five to do all of the asks by being a copycat.

Instructing apprentices wasn't why I was there, though. I passed a few times in front of the leader's office. There was relatively no sound in there. But they must have been or talked about me that day. I needed to hear them doing it one more time.

I heard my name being whispered a few times between instructors, and when I approached them, they changed the subject like it was taboo. Those two were OG's at the institution.

After asking indirect questions to people I managed to converse with, I found out that Calumn and him were really close. In fact, he was his sidekick.

Sidekick? Enemy too?

I could also say that people wee jealous the leader liked him so much. Another thing I noticed was that the instructors never mentionned the leader's name. it only proved right my suspicions. Why was his name supposed to be kept secret too?

Were Ken, Claumn, and Him somehow partners?

Waiting for something to happen at the office was agonxing and scary. It was on the seventh floor. Finding an excuse to go up there was harder and harder, and I could tell people were stating to become suspicious of me.

I was doing something wrong. I was almost done my shift though.

It was the tenth time passing in front the office, that I heard my real name: Autumn Ace.

"We need to stop this spoiled brat. That is illegal."

Another deep voice. The leader's ?

"Apparently she had confirmation from Science Council." It was definitively about me.

" I don't care. We need to stop her, no matter the technique used. You hear me? No matter. This is ridiculous." Technique? Was killing a technique?

I took a deep breath and knocked. I was going in. I was going in.That was what I was looking for all day.

It was foolish of me.

"Who is it ?"

"Officer Aaliah."

"Come in."

His brown strict eyes staring into my soul were the first thing I saw. He didn't say anything. I knew it was my cue to say what I was there for. "I want to make sure you met the young gentlemen who wanted to speak with you earlier."

He didn't budge. It's like he knew what I really came there for. Was I acting weird?

Calumn was on his left, behind his desk, mirroring his gaze. They looked so alike their resemblance scared me.

They didn't like my interruption.

"Yes. Leave. Now."

I glanced at his nametag on his desk. It was flipped over facing him. Who did that? Wasn't it for the people who came in to talk to you, and not yourself?

I needed a better strategy to know his name. All I needed was a name. I didn't throw myself in the dungeon for no reason.

"You see..." I said, closing the door behind me. "this instution's reputation might be ruined."

I walked over with hands behind my back. Behind him were windows. If I could get there and turn over to look at him, I would discover his name.

"I saw him complaining to a-"

"Stop."

I looked at him. Even though I was sweating under my clothes I still managed to look confident. "Excuse-me?"

"What sick game are you playing?"

"your language is unacceptable."

"What do you want to know about me."

My breath froze. I shook my head and walked to the window anyway. I knew I was playing with fire. But at this post it could either burn me- or save me.

I was in too deep to back away. What would I eve say if I wanted to?

"He was complaining to a friend about the time he had waited for you and how you didn't give me enough attention."

I stopped looking out the window, for a long time, finished talking. Then I looked at him. "We want to run this institution successfully."

My hands deviate to peek at the nametag. Not only he caught my eye but he turned it to the front while talking.

"I am doing it successfully." I had a feeling he wasn't only talking about the fake situation I created.

"awesome."

Then I'll be leaving you. I walked fats to the door. I hoped I would be so fast he wouldn't have the time to turn it around this time.

I don't think I was fast enough, but when closing the door, I caught his name. he was still looking at me, though.

I thought it was strange. I was right. I was so happy to know his name I ran down the stairs, and left the whole building. No, my shift wasn't over. But I was done.

I was smiling ear to ear when I got into my AirCar.

My bodyguards asked me what was making me in such a good mood. I told them; mission accomplished. They couldn't know more. But I noticed their genuine smiles.

I would report him to the police tonight. I had audio recording of what he said about me earlier.

It would be fine. The surgery was in two days. I'd succeed.

Roland Blake, my friend, your last shift ends tonight.
