21. Have courage, and be kind

I needed 'peace guy' 's name at least, and occupation.

I came home early the next day, planning to break into his office while he wasn't there to get my files. Surprise, surprise, not only he had them, but he gave them to the man who made the peace sign to me for an unknown reason a few weeks ago. I recognized the red banner with the title of the surgery on the cover page.

I discovered later that they knew each other very well. How, is what I never figured out.

They were both in front of Father's home office. As I stood close to the open door, eavesdropping, I felt like my chest was about to burst of anger. What were they doing there together? Why was Father handing him my stolen papers?

How come they knew each other?

My hands were shaking. But even inside my messy mind, I knew I was going to get answers. I would follow the man to at least get his name. his occupation would be a pleasant bonus.

I heard Ken whisper him goodbye. As soon as I did, I sped to the underground tunnel with my Air Car. I had never ran so fast in my house. My feet were barely touching the ground.

I jumped inside my car with my bodyguards already seated. The must have seen me run there. I told my chauffeur to put ghost mode on to make our car invisible in the sky. Then I told him to follow the man that had just left my house.

They didn't question me. I loved that they trusted me like that.

Chasing him was like chasing an ant in the city. Small, wearing all back, and weaving his way into streets like he had doe it a thousand times. Calumn guy couldn't have known that he was being followed. Which meant he was careful because he knew someone might have a reason to follow him.

To anyone, it would have looked like he was going in circles around the neighborhood. But he was moving farther, ever so slightly at every corner.

What did he have so big to hide?

As I was changing into new clothes, and simultaneously, preparing myself to be another person- Blue- my heart was throbbing. I was dreading what I was going to find. I was also dreading losing him because I had to know.

As soon as I was done changing, I went back to tracking him beside the chauffeur and a few of my guards. Another pair of eyes makes a big difference in this case.

Calumn maintained the same speed since he started running twenty minutes ago, until he arrived at his house. It made it hard to know if was almost to his destination.

When he jumped inside a building, I didn't know before so I wasn't prepared to jump and 'meet' him.

About five minute after I changed, he entered runnig the lobby of a gigantic building. Since my car was about a meter above the ground, I jumped and ran inside before the door locked itself after him.

I heard his steady footfall on the staircase. As fast as my feet allowed me, I climbed them. I was also trying hard to not make any sound. I couldn't give myself away. I was so close.

We were in a twenty-story building. By the tenth one, I felt like I was going to pass out. My legs wee so sore. I felt like my legs would soon give up beneath me.

By a stroke of luck, I heard the painting stop and keys jingling.

I had to attract his attention.

When I felt his key in the hole, I did the fist thing I thought of. I didn't know if it was going to work, but hopefully he had a bit of Human sympathy and not heartlessly like his friend-Father.

I fell as hard as I could on the stairs. "Ah" I cried at the top of my lungs with the must agony I could muster.

I felt real pain. I think that helped. He immediately stopped what he was doing, and ran down to the story below.

I started breathing a little better through the pain. It worked. I didn't suffer.

First thing I noticed was that it really was "peace sign" guy. I almost regretted that it was him. It scared me that he might be a bad guy, because I genuinely thought before seeing him with my dad that he was good. genuinely good.

Could it have been someone else, please?

I was sitting on step with a hurt knew. He came to stand in front of me, his vivid green eyes roaming my body for any blood.

He had a reflex like mine; if someone's injured, look for blood. My father taught me it. Where had he been trained? Was it my dad? Or also army training?

"Where are you hurt?" He said.

His voice was really deep.

"My knee's bleeding." My voice was rough. I was really in pain, though.

"Can you walk ? I am certified in first Aid so I can help you. Inside. I have a first-aid kit." He said.

Blood appeared on the leg of my grey pants.

"I don't know."

I held the ramp, and with his hand in mine, I made it to the top. I think my leg was really hurt though. I almost passed out from the pain at the top.

He opened his apartment, number 105, and I was struck by how neat and beautiful it looked. He had a mix of gray, turquoise and black tones everywhere. His navy blue curtains were very beautiful.

He led me on a turquoise sofa, and laid my leg on it. I knew my bodyguards were closely watching my location at the moment.

He lifted my pant leg. It looked nasty. He didn't wince though. Alsmot like he was used to it. Was he a junior doctor? Or an soldier in the military?

"I'll get the kit." He said.

When he opened the wardrobe beside the front door, and took it, a lot of thoughts crossed my head. Why was it beside the wardrobe? Does he get injured a lot? Was that why it needed to be close to reach at all times?

"So What's you're name?" He said, taking plasters out, alcohol and cotton balls. I was surprised he wanted to make conversation. He seemed like 'I don't make small talk type'.

"Blue." I said.

He smiled then looked at me. He had a pretty smile. When he smiled, he looked really approachable and nice. It was a contrast from his strict straight face.

"Does that have anything to do with your blue hair?"

I shook my shoulders. "Nah, I just like blue. It's a soothing colour."

"It is." He said.

It was quiet for a bit.

"What's your name?" I asked.

He looked at me, head tilted. "Ca-Calumn."

His behavior wierded me out a bit. Why was he scrutinizing me? "Are you okay?"

"yeah," he said, focusing on my knee again. He was almost done.

Okay...

"It's just weird. I never have people over and nobody ever asks about my name. They either know or they don't."

"Where's your family?" I said. I wanted to know more about him.

"Not here. I have a mom. Never known my dad. " He paused. "It sucks."

"Says who?" I asked. "Sometimes being by yourself is better for your mental health than being around people that don't treat you the way you deserve."

He looked at me. "Where's your family?"

"I have a dad, but we don't get along so most of the time, I don't feel like I have him."

I didn't know why but I felt extremely comfortable with him. I was already spilling my life story to him- also Blue's made up one.

There's something about strangers. The fact that they don't know anything about you makes it so much easier to talk to then about personal things.

"That sucks. that's me and my mom. "

I noticed he had just finished wrapping the last bandage. He slid my leg pant down my leg. It was over.

I didn't know his name, and occupation.

I thought I failed my mission. I didn't. I just needed to be more patient. It was in front of my eyes all along.

"Anyways" he said. "I'm done. Are you going to be fine going home by yourself?"

"Yes."

"You don't live too far right?"

"No I don't," when mye yes met his work tag on his navy blue tracksuit, I smiled. tears filled my eyes. I did it.

Never give up hope when it's not done yet.

"thank you Officer Calumn Crost with the Enforcers of Peace."

I cited everything to make sure that's where he worked.

He didn't correct me. "Exactly."

I walked to the door, then opened it. "Take the elevator" he said. "You look like the type to take the stairs even injured."

He was right. That's what I was going to do. How did he know ?

I didn't respond which confirmed his suspicions. " I was right, wasn't I?"

I pointed my finger at him. "Right on point."

"Bye, Calumn."

"Bye." He was about to close the door.

Then stopped. I noticed that he did a lot, - stopped in the middle of doing things to do other things.

"you're a great person, Blue. I liked our perfect great conversation."

My smile fell. He didn't notice it, though. Because he had already closed the door. No, I wasn't perfect. And I wasn't great. I was just me.

At least I knew his name and where he worked. That was going to be helpful to know if he was an enemy to Autumn Air or not, and if yes, why.

But the next day, I went to ask Isic to buy me a new phone. For real, this time.
