The Hidden Refuge
*picture of Thatcher
Tristan exchanged a glance with me like "is she serious?"
"You're hilarious if you think I'm gonna follow a stranger in there," Tristan pointed to the sewer hole with disgust.
"Oh really? Huh? Why don't you go back to Hawker? I heard it's nice where he is? Exactly, now go in. Plus, I'm the nicest stranger you've met and the only one willing to help two gens like you so I'd shut it," Raine snapped and dropped down into the sewer.
I followed close behind her and Tristan was right behind me. The sewers smelt, well, like a sewer. So not pleasant at all. They smelt like cheese that had been left to rot in the refrigerator for WAY to long.
Raine lead us down the maze of tunnels and pipes and stopped at a pipe with a wooden door.
She gestured to the door with both arms, "after you."
I warily opened the door and walked in. I was met five pairs of eyes all turning at once to stare at me. Brown. Green. Blue
One guy, who was really tall with brown hair and blue eyes, walked over to me and slammed me into the wall.
"Listen up Gen! How'd you find this place?!" He shouted and I felt a wave of pain travel throughout me.
"Hey! Thatcher! Put it down! Now!" Raine shouted at the guy as she walked in.
Thanks Raine, I guess I'm an "it" now.
The guy, named thatcher I assumed, dropped me to the hard , solid ground.
"Didn't know he was with you Raine, wouldn't expect you to recruit a gen!" Thatcher laughed and walked back to the other four people.
"I didn't. I saved him and brought him here because he will be useful to us," Raine explained and walked over to them.
"What can he give us?!" The oldest girl exclaimed and stood up.
"They can get us into Havoc," Raine grinned and their faces lit up with excitement.
The youngest girl rushed to me and looked at me, "can you really?!"
"Jade! Get away from him! We don't know anything about him!" Another boy yelled and the girl, jade, rolled her eyes.
"As if this pathetic gen could hurt me Finn, come on," She retorted and rolled her eyes.
I met her eyes then she walked away.
"So, torren, Tristan, meet the rebellion," Raine said proudly and signaled to the group of five people.
"The twins are Finn and Jade. The brown haired girl is Echo, the tallest and oldest is Thatcher, and the one that looks like a gen is Alex," Raine introduced her team.
They waved and I nervously waved back.
They all looked very different from the people back in Havoc. Jade had a maroon shirt that cut off just above her belly button and a long black cape trailed behind her. She had a golden head band and a braid trailing behind her. She was wearing torn up, long, brown pants and black boots and had a quiver with arrows on her back and a sturdy bow.
Finn had a worn out green sweatshirt with brown elbow pads and thick black pants. He had to black lines of charcoal on each cheek and also had a quiver if arrows and a bow. He had black boots and a knife in his pocket.
Echo had her hair in a messy ponytail. She had a black leather jacket on over a dark brown t-shirt and black torn up pants. She had brown hunter's boots and had two swords in sheathes on her back.
Alex had three dots of charcoal on his forehead and a black shirt with the front having a thin layer of what looked like fishing net. He had black pants and black boots and a single sword on his back.
Thatcher was the most intimidating. He had both the dots and lines of charcoal on his face and a thick black jacket, black boots, and black pants. He had two swords like Echo and a silver symbol of five overlapping circles on his jacket.
"I'm torren, and this is my brother Tristan," I said.
"Sorry for trying to kill you, the only gen we know that is helpful is Alex," thatcher laughed.
"It's fine, my brother deserved it," Tristan replied and I elbowed him to shut up and he laughed.
"So, are they going to help us or what? They're the perfect people for this operation. They help us, they can go home," thatcher told Raine and Raine looked at us curiously.
"Hmm, how much should we tell them?" She asked.
"Tell us everything, who are we going to tell?" Tristan shrugged.
Thatcher and Raine exchanged a look and Raine sighed.
"Sit down," she ordered and brought to chairs over to the table where the others were.
I sat down on the hard wooden stool and tapped my foot anxiously on the dirt floor.
"Listen, Sky needs to be taken out of office. Heck, she needs to be taken off Earth. She's caused us all pain, even her own people," Raine began.
"Wait, you mean kill her? But she saved us and-" Tristan stared then cut off as thatcher shot him a glare.
"That's what they told us in school anyways," Alex stepped in and Tristan met thatchers eyes who seemed to back down.
"Anyways, you two can get us into the capital. You'll be welcomed there," Raine continued.
"But our parents tried to kill him so I could take over the company. Plus, how are you going to come? We're not going alone," I interrupted.
I noticed jade shift in the corner of my eye and she pulled out a small black box and a bigger black box. She opened the hatches on the dirty wood and pulled out contacts and hair dye.
"How'd you get that?!" Tristan said in amazement as he saw them.
Contacts and hair dye were banned in the capital, President Sky had said the effects were harmful to the human body and everyone believed her. We all did.
"They aren't dangerous like Sky says. She only says that so no Outsiders get in Havoc and so no Half Bloods can get out of being a servant. Plus, you'd be surprised what the markets sell around here," jade explained triumphantly and her brother nodded.
"They'll work when we're on the streets. But we have to be quick, the dye only lasts for one week. That's it." Echo added and they all nodded.
"If I may ask, why do your trust us? I mean, you totally should but just out of curiosity, why?" I asked.
"We're desperate. We need to get rid of her soon. And you came at the right time. I mean, we all die anyways, plus, we don't often find gens willing to help," Raine sighed and stood up and started pacing.
"Well, the capital building will be close to impossible to break into," Tristan said, "security there is tighter then anywhere else in Havoc, especially by Sky."
"That's why with any information you can give us we'll be better at making a plan," Thatcher added.
"Why don't you ask him? Isn't he a gen?" I asked and nodded at Alex.
Finn nodded, "But he doesn't know the most recent information. You do."
"Well that will take time. Plus, we need to train you," Raine smiled, "and that'll be the fun part."
