Chapter 46: Saving a friend.
Blake's POV.
The entire gala fell silent after Derek made his dramatic exit. People confirmed that this was going to be the biggest scandal of Maplebirch with the hushed tones they were speaking in. The two distressed parents hd to hold each other so none of them fell down because they certainly could not rely on their spawn anymore.
"I have to go save Jordan," I whispered.
"I can't just let you leave," Valerie sternly spoke. "Derek- Derek has a knife and he is dangerous right now. You cannot take the risk, Blake."
"My job is based on taking a risk!" I snapped. "You know what risk I cannot take? Staying here and probably losing Jordan and I am not willing to take that one."
Valerie went silent at my sudden outburst. She just looked at me, waiting for an explanation. I let out a sigh and said, "It's just that when Jordan and I were coming to Picasso, he told me he would be my friend and it may sound very childish, but I never had one except for Kelly and it meant a lot to me."
I ws expecting another argument in return, but Val wrapped her arms around me and placed a small peck on my lips.
"Go save Jordan," she smiled and handed me the car keys.
"I'll go with Valerie," Lenny said.
"No, you're going with me," I corrected him and the two of us made our way to the car.
"How will we find them? We wasted a lot of time in the hall," Lenny asked.
"I put on a tracking app in all of your phones. We can just follow him through the car's GPS."
"When did you do that and why do I know nothing about it?" Lenny freaked out.
"I did it a few days ago and it was consensual," I shrugged it off as if it was nothing.
After getting into the driver's seat, I turned the GPS on and entered Jordan's username. After that, it took us only a few minutes and soon we were connected with Jordan's live location. My eyes kept on switching from the road to the little screen and back to the road. The silence in the vehicle made Lenny anxious, I could sense his discomfort from my seat, but I refrained myself from speaking anything.
"How did Derek find out about the plan?" I questioned.
"I don't know, why are you asking me?" he asked me.
"Because you were the only one who conversed with him alone and after your little chat, everything went downhill," I stated like it was obvious.
"Are you accusing me of telling him the truth?" He rose an eyebrow.
"You've done it before, I don't see why you won't do it again," I shrugged.
"Just drive," he insisted.
My lips tugged upwards at his last statement. He gave me everything I needed and he was not even aware about it.
After keeping a safe distance and tailing Derek's car, we finally stopped. The surroundings were awfully familiar and I figured it out within a second where we were.
The McAllister's.
Kelly was supposed to be inside, gathering information or evidence.
"Did he just circle around his house twice?" Lenny said.
"I think he was just being precautious," I said, again in a very monotonous manner.
I opened my door but ordered Lenny stay inside until I give him a green signal and he did exactly what I asked him to.
Once I looked around and found that the path was clear, I removed the gun from my glove compartment and walked over to Lenny and opened his door.
He got out and let a sigh but it was cut short when I handcuffed is hand with the door handle. He looked at me, completely dazed.
"You spilled the truth to Derek and I don't understand why you're helping him, but whatever it is, you are equally held responsible. Now, stay here until I get back."
"Blake, stop!" Lenny said, his voice hinting a little desperation. "Look, what I did was a mistake. I should have never done it but you don't understand. I- I was- I felt lost and angry. At that moment, I thought it was the right thing to do, but now I know it wasn't. Look, I'll help you get Derek and I'll even get him to confess, just please remove these cuffs."
I let out a scoff and said, "Do you really think I need help with Derek's confession? He held a knife at Jordan's neck and threatened to kill him. If that doesn't make him look guilty of his sister's murder, I don't know what will."
Lenny gulped when he knew there was nothing he could do to get him out of the situation. I always suspected him for a lot of fishy things, I just never knew anything for sure until Valerie blamed him for sharing our plans with Derek.
The way he defended himself by attacked Brianna and Valerie, I was assured that he had a hand in the murder too and he just have fooled his friends by playing victim and helpless, but he certainly did not fool me.
When I handcuffed him, I still had no ground to hold him, but his desperate pleading gave me enough to arrest him.
Knowing Lenny had nothing to defend himself with, I left him alone on the dark street and made my way to the house where my friend was held captive. I had no definitely plan, but I was aware of my goal. I made sure the gun was loaded and ready to be fired if I sensed a fatal threat.
The house lights were still off and the air held a kind of ominous vibe to it. Since there was absolutely no type of voice, I had to make sure that every step I took, it was calculated and quiet. The living room was a huge mess, so walked around there was not a bright idea. I made my way to the silent kitchen and saw a pan sitting on the stove as if it was recently used. I touched the rim of the vessel and found it to be a little warm, indicating that Derek heated something inside.
I looked down and found mud piled up near the end of the kitchen counter. My head turned towards the bathroom because that was the only place Derek would go to clean his boots. My ears were alert for the smallest of sound but when I got none, I took it as my cue to open the door. My body cringed at the small creak the action created, but when I swiftly opened it after, I calmed down.
The tap of the sink was still dripping with water and I smiled when my hunch was correct. I looked around and even checked the bathub but Jordan was nowhere to be found. My grip tightened around the gun when a loud thud boomed right above me.
They were in Derek's room. I closed the bathroom door behind me and rushed into the room and swung that door open. Derek and Jordan's head snapped in my direction and I took in a deep breathe before speaking, "Look, if you thinking that killing Jordan is a smart choice, trust me, it is not. The game is over Derek. Everyone knows you killed Rosalind, just turn yourself in."
"You think I don't know nothing about smart choices? I fooled you and Kelly for three entire months and went unnoticed."
"If you take pride in that, the joke's on you buddy," I laughed. "Lenny is handcuffed to my car right now and I did not need evidence to detect it. I may have not known anything for sure, but I never liked you or that guy." By the time I was done, I was standing inside the room. My eyes wandered to Jordan who was tied to the chair and a tape on his mouth, preventing him from talking.
"Leave Jordan right now and save yourself from a death sentence," I told Derek.
"I might as well finish Jordan and go for that death sentence. It does sound tempting."
The gun that was pointed on Derek's head was now lowered. I would not be able to stop that monster with a gun. I needed a twisted tactic.
"This is your last warning. Drop the knife and let me arrest you. I'll see if we can strike a deal about the amount of years you spend in the tempting jail."
A smug smile covered his face as he took a step closer to Jordan. But the smile was erased immdiately when I copied his movement with a similar smile on my face. "I thought you'd do that."
I pounced on him, so that we were both on the floor and kicked the knofe under the bed with my right leg. Derek squirmed underneath me, but with the help of my knees, I put some pressure on his stomach, holding him steady. I was about to remove the handcuffs, but Derek rolled to the other side, making me lose my balance and falling on the floor.
He knew that fighting me was the wrong option, so he made a run for it. I was quick to get back on my toes and sprinted after him. Again, I was successful to tackle him down before he reached the staircase, but the suddenness of the action resulted in both of us tumbling down. I still did not let go of his collar and helped him stand up.
"Stop. Resisting." I breathed out but he did not listen to me. So, with all of my force, I punched his face hard enough to knock him out. Once his body made contact with the carpeted floor, I crouched down to confirm he was unconscious, I cuffed him and then went upstairs to free Jordan.
I undid the ropes and removed the tape. "Jesus, are you okay?" He asked.
"I'm fine. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, that bastard knew one of you'll would follow him. Although, he thought it would be Lenny and you would stay back with Valerie."
"Why should we be the only ones whose plans get ruined?" I laughed, earning a snort from Jordan. "Come on, lets get Rosalind some justice."
"Hey, uh- is Brianna okay?" Jordan asked hesitantly.
"I have no idea. But we will call Val once we get inside the car."
We went downstairs to see Kelly standing with both Lenny, Derek and a few town cops. The police officer's head were all down in shame as Kelly gave them a long speech about conduct and ethics. Once she was done, she sent the two criminals away and turned to us.
I gave her a weak smile but she patted my back proudly and then hugged Jordan and checked if he was physically fine.
"Valerie is waiting for us at the hospital. Let's leave," she informed and the three of us left the house.
As I saw Lenny and Derek getting into the car, happiness and satisfaction took over me. I got this feeling right after every case I solved. But something about this one was different. Maybe because I found new friends and Valerie.
Things were not looking dull for me after all.
FINALLY DEREK AND LENNY ARE ARRESTED!
Also, I thought that if I am writing a chapter from everyone's POV, why not give Lover Boy one too? ;)
I don't know what I feel for this chapter. I mean, I like the action part but I am not too confident about the starting.
Sooo, let me know if you feel the same.
