Chapter 34: Interrogation 101.

Kelly pulled the huge whiteboard and wrote Interrogation 101 in bold letters. We were keen on learning how to ask questions in a mannerly way.

Brianna did comment that there was no big deal in interrogating. All we had to do was create a tensed environment and try out best in catching a person trying to lie. Clearly, she was the bad cop if we ever decided to try that little gimmick.

Kelly had gotten well at ignoring everybody's flaws, so she just continued pretending like she hadn't heard Brianna.

"Asking questions is not the main focus in any interrogation," she began and gave Brianna a death glare. "It's the way you ask the questions and how you perceive the answers."

Derek let out a little chuckle as Brianna shrunk back in embarrassment. Bri and me were seated on the bed, Derek had decided to use the spare chair and Jordan was on the floor, his back being supported by the bed's end. Blake and Kelly were obviously next to the whiteboard, looking serious and a little scary.

"Since we don't have much to work with in this case, there can be more room for questions. They don't have to be specified to a certain category or event. So, your first step would be to make a list of questions. It can be mentally or you can jot down a bunch of them. Make sure to stick to those during the entire time investigation. After you complete the most important ones, you'll can shift to questions that were mentioned in your list."

As Kelly spoke the first step, Jordan took out a notepad and pen and wrote the step down. Obviously, we all were distracted by the action and asked him why he was writing it down and his answer was a simple one; he had a bad memory and he didn't want to screw up this time.

Derek raised a hand as if we were sitting in a classroom and Blake gestured him to speak.

"What kind of questions should be mandatory in the list?" He asked.

"It could be related to Rosalind's behaviour. Ask whether she was acting stranger or wasn't her normal self. Or, it could be related to the conversation they had," Blake stated. "Since our plan is to talk to each and every person Rosalind was in contact with before her death, the question could also include if she was going to meet anybody new or if she acquainted herself somebody new."

While Blake explained us what the questions can be and shouldn't be, he stole a glance and look at me, I gave him a huge grin and he just blushed back in reply. God, that man was adorable.

I was really looking forward to my date with him. After we kissed in the hospital, we barely spent any time together and when we were together, we'd just sleep or he would comfort me from waking up with a jerk. Our first date was an amazing one, but didn't feel personal. We hardly talked or got to know each other. It was about time we went out on a real date.

"The next step, learn to read the room. When a person is guilty for something, they try to mask it. If they're really good at it, they get away. But, usually they try to hide it with dry sarcasm, fake sympathy or jokes that aren't really funny. Pay attention to the body language. Fiddling, averting gaze, stuttering, trying to change the topic or refusing to answer a certain language, this all point to being guilty too."

"So, if we see any one of the above mentioned behaviour, we assume them to be guilty?" Brianna popped the question.

"It's not necessary. Sometimes, your basic instinct is to become nervous while being interrogated," Kelly answered.

"What do we do then?"

"Read between the lines. Ask more personal questions."

We spent the next hour carefully framing the questions and studying the list of people we were interviewing tomorrow.

Kelly decided to break the group in three teams. Me and Derek, Brianna and Kelly and Jordan and Blake. I insisted on questioning with Blake, but Kelly said she didn't want any distractions. Brianna was originally partnered with Jordan, but Kelly switched them since Brianna was known to be blunt with her mean attitude and she couldn't afford anybody ruining the plan now.

Well, I knew something she didn't. Partnering Blake and Jordan was not a really bright idea. I would have insisted on swapping Derek with Jordan, but I didn't want Blake to be jealous, again. I was sure that Blake knew he had nothing to worry about, but still, it would have been slightly insensitive of me by disregarding his feelings. Plus, I thought it would be cool since they could bond a little.

"I need a break!" Brianna exasperatedly sighed and muttered.

"Why? This isn't some boring lecturing, it's quite interesting," I told her.

"It is fun, but it's too much information. I need some coffee and fresh air."

"We can take a fifteen minutes break," Blake said and Brianna sprung up from the bed, rushing to the kitchen to get her dose of caffeine.

Jordan shut his book off and got up from the floor, stretching to feel better. Derek just pulled up his phone and started reading some texts. Kelly and Blake both engaged themselves in some work related conversation. I decided to join Brianna and make myself some tea.

"I'm making some tea, anybody want some?" I asked before exiting the room.

"I'll have some," Jordan said.

"Make me a cup too," Derek joined.

"Blake, you want any?"

"Nah, I'm good." He smiled and I looked at Kelly who denied too.

I shortly joined Brianna in the kitchen who was busy brewing her "special" coffee and I took out all the cups and started making the tea.

"What happened to Blake yesterday?" Brianna questioned.

"What do you mean?" I popped an eyebrow.

"He stormed out of Picasso. We all saw that. What happened?"

"Nothing, he just had a thought and needed some fresh air," I lied.

"Valerie, honey, we just spent two hours learning how to read the room and catch people lying. If you seriously think I'm going to believe your poor made-up excuse, you're wrong," she sweetly smiled. God, I hated when she would do that.

"Well, he just- promise you won't tel it to anybody?"

"I promise."

"He got jealous of Jordan," I murmured and she let out a high-pitched snort. "What?!"

"It was about time he got jelly."

"Why?"

"Because you and Blake hardly spend some time together and whenever everybody is present, you're either with me or with Jordan. Anybody would feel a little insecure by that. Have ya'll even discussed where the two of stand?"

I took a second to myself before answering her question. She wasn't wrong. I didn't know if we were exclusive, or whether he'd like it if I called him my "boyfriend." I was more determined than ever to have this date and sort things out, once and for all.

"We will go out on another day after we are done interrogating," I said.

"Good. Spend some time with your boo. He is a great guy."

After handing everybody their drink, we resumed our session.

As I got lost in Kelly's teaching, I just knew that tomorrow was going to be epic.

Hello Angels!

Tomorrow is definitely going to be epic.

The next chapter will be divided in three parts and each part will have a different person's POV.
