Chapter 33: Milkshakes and Pancakes.
As decided, we all met at Picasso for a group discussion and breakfast. We all were going to meet for lunch, but I had to go to the hospital for a follow up on my situation.
The restaurant was practically empty aside from a love-sick couple and our group. Most of the chatter and noise was coming from our booth.
"Whether you like it or not, Damon and Elena were perfect for each other," Brianna stated. Currently, Lenny and my best friend were having an argument about the infamous show and the ships. I knew better than to interrupt and end the conversation, so I just stayed quiet and enjoyed the friendly banter.
"Damon was toxic for her. Yes, he loved her selfishly, but he was still toxic. He killed Jeremy once and attempted to kill several more times," Lenny presenter his side of the argument.
"Lenny, give up already. Delena is endgame because they did end up together. Plus, Stefan married Caroline," Brianna smugly replied.
"Are you running out of point to fight?" Lenny pouted, making Brianna roll her eyes and curse under her breathe.
"No, you are th-"
"I missed this," Jordan whispered in my ear, earning a small giggle from me.
He wasn't lying. I missed all of us together too. We had already been a lot and it was about time we did something that made us happy instead of tense.
"Valerie, ask Brianna to just accept the the fact," Lenny complained.
I was seated in between Jordan and Brianna and Lenny, Blake and Kelly were in front of us. Derek has to borrow a chair since there was no space for him to sit and was on the corner of the table.
"Learn to fight your own battles, Grande," Brianna said and looked around for somebody to take our order.
When a petite waitress walked to our table, I immediate thought was to ask about Carl since we were seated on his side of the tables. But, I kept my mouth shut because somewhere in the back of my mind I thought I was being paranoid for no reason.
"Where's Carl?" Lenny voiced out my concerns.
"He took a holiday today. He was feeling under the weather," the girl replied and took down our orders.
Picasso was known for its maple syrup pancakes and chocolate waffles and that was exactly what we ordered.
"Let's talk business now," Derek said. "What are we going to do now? We have to stop giving the killer the upper hand."
"We have to make the town believe that one of us is planning to publish a book about Rosalind's life and taking that as an excuse, we do what we should have done in the beginning. Scrutinise the town and question each and every person who came in contact with her," Kelly spoke.
I took a moment to let her words sink and mentally looked for any holes that would land us in trouble.
"We start with this list," Blake added and slipped a piece of paper on the table. "We managed pull some strings and check the surveillance of a few places. This is the list of people she talked with."
"Are you sure we should be a part of the investigation too?" Brianna asked. "I mean, we wouldn't know what to ask and what to do."
"The people will feel more comfortable talking to you instead of us. And as for the other doubt, Blake and I will prepare you. Don't worry," Kelly assured.
After discussing a little bit more, our breakfast arrived, filling our booth with the aromatic, sweet smell of syrup and chocolates. We all stopped and hungrily attacker the untouched food, savouring the taste.
Jordan shared a funny incident that happened with pancakes, making us all have a good laughter.
"I can't believe you thought that!" I snorted, unable to stop my guffaws.
"What?! I was nine and dumb," Jordan replied.
The both of us continued talking silently while Lenny and Brianna patched up about their previous fight and agreed that their opinions differed and they had to respect it.
Derek was catching himself up with Kelly on the case and Blake was his normal silent self, observing everybody. I glanced over at him shyly and went back to my conversation with Jordan.
Something happened and Blake got up from his seat and exited the restaurant. The entire table fell silent and we all exchanged confused glares. I asked Brianna to get up, so that I could check up on Blake.
As I walked outside, my brain was clouded with confusion. I just hoped he would have gotten a call from work and had to excuse himself. But, his exit was pretty abrupt.
I saw Blake standing outside, his hands in his jeans and eyes on the moving traffic.
"Are you okay?" I asked, my voice low and scared.
"Yeah, I just- I needed a moment alone," he replied and flashed me a fake smile. I let out a huge breathe since his answer confirmed something was bothering him.
"Talk to me, Blake. What's wrong?" I stood in front of him, waiting for his gaze to meet mine, but he avoided eye contact. "Hey...look at me."
When he finally did, his almond shaped eyes and nothing but sadness written over them. I knitted my brows, contemplating what was bothering him.
"What happened?" I asked again, hoping for some answer.
"I'm being immature and stupid, that's all. We should head back," he said and turned around, but I was quick to hold his hand and make him face me again.
"We are not going in until you tell me what is up with you," this time, my tone was demanding rather than sympathetic.
"I got jealous!" He threw his hair up in defence and let out an exasperated sigh. "It's just, you and Jordan are pretty close and I notice that. You spend all this time with him, laughing to whatever he says and you even risked your life to find evidence which would get him out of jail. It just made me feel, insecure."
For an entire minute, I had no idea how to react. I was definitely shocked to know that my friendship with Jordan was bothering Blake. I wanted him to know that I felt nothing towards Jordan.
To comfort him, I tiptoed closer to him and placed a soft kiss on his lips. I didn't let go of his face and held it in my hands, rubbing my thumbs over his cheeks. "Blake, you have nothing to worry about, okay? I mean, I get why you feel that way, anybody would. But if you think that I have feelings for Jordan, then you're wrong. I kissed you at the hospital and I am dating you, not him."
"I know, that is why I didn't want to tell that to you."
"I'm happy that you shared what you were feeling with me and I'm totally not judging you for feeling insecure. As I said, I get it."
After I have him a warm smile, he pulled me into his arms and placed a sweet kiss on my head. I closed my eyes and softly laughed at his hesitation to talk about his feelings with me. I was just glad that he was opening up to me and I was ready to wait for him to get totally comfortable around me, no matter how much time it was going to take.
We both decided head inside and tell everybody they had nothing to worry about. While Blake held open the door for me, a thought struck my mind and I knew I had to tell him about it. "Tell you what, after the interrogation phase is over, why don't we take a day to ourself and go out on another date?"
"I'd love that."
Hello Angels!
Ahhhh, Blakey got jealous of Val and Jordan. Isn't he the cutest?
Anywho, thoughts on this chapter?
I wanted to show the next step in catching the killer and then spending some time together after everything they have been through.
