Chapter 31: A Day to Remember.
The plan was simple. We would go inside, get Lenny and leave. We were hoping that there wouldn't be any interruptions or complications, but nobody always gets what they want.
To be on a safer side, Kelly has handed us all weapons to defend ourselves. Jordan had his knuckles that he trusted the most. Brianna had a knife and I had a pepper spray.
It was stupid to carry just a spray, but it was decided that I would always have someone by my side to fight. Since my wound hadn't healed completely, nobody wanted me to indulge myself in violence.
We travelled in two cars. Brianna had picked up Jordan and Kelly and Blake were with me.
Currently, we were parked in front of the abandoned destination, studying it carefully. Blake had his hand on my waist and didn't leave me for a second. Normally, I'd call it possessive behaviour, but he was just worried of me getting hurt again.
"I'm entering through the back door, Brianna and Jordan are taking the broken window to enter and Val and Blake are using the front door," Kelly revised. "Everyone will turn on their earpiece the moment we enter and keep ourselves updated. No matter what happens, our main goal is to get Lenny out safe. We don't fight unless the situation requires us to. Okay?"
"Are we sure we are not walking into a trap?" Jordan asked.
"Oh, this is a trap," Brianna scoffed as if it was obvious knowledge. "Say your goodbyes. We might not see each other again."
"Brianna!" I exclaimed. "Can you be a little optimistic? Just a little."
"What?! I'm being realistic. We were close to losing you, god knows how many people are in there right now, waiting for us." She replied.
"That is why we don't go venturing alone. We might be separated from each other, but we will all stay on the same level," Kelly informed.
"Kells, I don't like you being alone. I've got Blake and Brianna's got Jordan. Can't you just join us?" I asked.
"Honey, I've carried out a lot of missions alone. I will be fine. Don't worry," she assured me.
"But seriously though, say your goodbyes," Brianna interjected and walked in my direction to hug me.
"We will all come out of here alive and with Lenny," I stated.
"As much as I want to stay here and listen to you two bicker, we are losing time. Let's go," Jordan said and pulled Brianna away from me. She dramatically wiped imaginary tears and walked away with Jordan.
"I'll see you soon, Jordie!" I yelled and he just waved and continued walking.
"Take care of my friend, Mr. Bodyguard," Brianna shouted back.
"See you in a while?" Kelly asked and squeezed my hand.
"Yes," I smiled and she walked away too.
Finally, I looked at Blake whose eyes were already on me and intertwined my hands with his.
"You ready?" I raised and eyebrow.
"It's still not too late for you to sit in the car and wait for us. It's too dangerous and I can't stand the thought of losing you," he sighed and tightened his grip on my hand.
"I am going to be right next to you and as weird as it sounds, I trust you to protect me."
"I'm not too sure, baby."
"Hey! Have some faith in yourself," I whispered and held his face in my hands. He dipped his head a little and connected our lips. The kiss was small but passionate.
Just like everybody, we walked to the front door and entered and as Kelly informed, both of us switched our earpieces on.
The first thing I hear was Brianna making a fuss. "Jordan, I am not jumping in these heels."
"Oh come on! I'll catch you, don't worry."
"I don't know if any of you have ever done anything like this before, but usually there is not much of talking," Kelly whispered and I chuckled.
Silence once again consumed my surroundings. Now I realised why people spread rumours about this place being haunted. All of the furniture was covered with spiderwebs and dirt. The walls had gotten brittle and it felt like the entire place would fall apart.
I got closer to Blake when I saw two bats fly right above my head. My heart couldn't help but beat faster because of the eerie feelings I was experiencing.
"If I ghost jumps at me, I am running outta here," I remarked.
"You are afraid of something that probably doesn't even exist than actual human being who can really hurt you? You surprise me, Valerie Mitchell." Blake said and I shrugged.
We walked around a little more hoping to find Lenny but met with nothing except for crushed expectations.
"Everything clear over here," Blake informed and Jordan followed him.
"Let's take this party to the first floor, then," Kelly replied and we all met at the staircase.
Kelly was the first to climb and Blake was the last. A loud thud stopped us all in our tracks and share a look.
Kelly's steps were now more precautious and steady. We all became quiet with our action and waited for a second to study the bang.
Before we could even reach the first floor, we were attacked by two people wearing an all black attire.
Brianna shrieked and Blake protectively stood in front of me.
The peacefulness was interrupted by the noise of human contact. Kelly had successfully punched one of the guys unconscious and Jordan was handling the second guy. Brianna had gotten closer to me, so that she wouldn't get hurt.
I had my pepper spray ready for use.
Suddenly those two men weren't our only worry. Ten more people were ready to attack us and we weren't going to back down either.
Kelly, Jordan and Blake has already started throwing punches around. Looking at them made me feel like I was in some live-action movie.
"Blake, look out!" Brianna shouted and he blocked the kick by sliding to the left and then the guy's jaw met with Blake's knuckles.
I shifted my attention to Kelly who was doing amazing by herself. She would definitely be the character who would impress everybody with her ability to fight back.
Jordan, however, was getting beaten by a tall, muscular guy. I made my way to him and sprayed the man's eyes with my trustable weapon. While he was screaming in pain, Jordan took his opportunity and banged his head against the wall, making him fall down and lay there.
"Thanks," he winked and I just curtsied.
While walking back to the stairwell, my path got blocked with an angry jerk who was ready to hit me in they face and before I could spray him, Blake held his hand and pushed him down the flight of stairs.
"Not gonna lie, that was hot," I breathed out and rushed to Brianna who look petrified with the entire situation.
"You okay, Bri?" I asked.
"I'm too pretty to die this young," she cried.
"Nobody is dying, we are winning this."
But I regretted that sentence since Brianna and my world went dark the very next second.
I woke up to a dark room, my body was tied with ropes and my vision was all blurry.
I tried wiggling out of the tight grasp, but failed. My instinct made me check my wound, which was alright. I closed my eyes and breathed out in relief.
As I gained my senses, I widened my eyes and frantically started searching for my friend.
I couldn't help but fear for our lives. It was an unsettling feeling that I couldn't overcome. Plus, the strange surrounding didn't help the situation. Anytime, anybody could burst in and kill any one of us.
The floor was cold and shivers went down my spine. I didn't want it to end like this.
"Brianna?" I whispered, not wanting to attract any attention to myself.
"Valerie?" A male voice called out.
"Lenny?" I questioned back.
"Oh my god! It is you! What are you doing here?" He gushed.
"We're here to save you. I'm sorry if we are late, we all had to deal with other things," I apologised.
"Yes. Jordan went to jail and Valerie was hospitalised since she was stabbed," Brianna replied and later winced in pain.
"Are you guys alright?" He asked for confirmation.
"Hell no. I think we were hit by bricks."
By now, my eyes adjusted in the dark and I could see Lenny sitting to my left, tied just like us. Although, he looked fine and healthy. There was no blood and that made me feel better. I couldn't help but feel a little guilty of blaming him as the murderer.
He gave me a weak smile as he caught me searching him for injuries.
"They didn't hit me. They just wanted to bring you guys here," he answered. "Which worked, considering that you two are here in the room with me."
"Not for long," Brianna laughed and got up.
"How did you-"
"My knife."
She then untied me and Lenny. We all got up and looked at each other in awe and then Brianna pulled us all in a group hug. I was glad Lenny was safe. We stayed like that for another fifteen seconds, although it felt like it was forever.
I wanted to stay there longer and tell Lenny everything that happened in detail and personally apologise for doubting him, but I also knew that everybody outside would have been worried about our sudden disappearance.
So, we exited that room with a fresh feeling of freedom. Lenny beat the pulp out of the two guys who were supposed to be guarding the door and making sure that we stayed inside.
We later increased our speed to catch up with the others and see if they needed help, but we halted when there were unconscious bodies on the floor and the trio were heavily breathing, feeling proud of their hard work.
Kelly looked in our direction and smiled, "Lenny!"
Jordan and Blake shot their head in our direction and we waved at them happily. There was so much adrenaline rushing through my veins that I could not stop smiling.
Blake walked towards me with a smile that I rarely got to see and carried me so that we were of the same height. He didn't waste another second and closed the space between us.
I completely forgot about the audience we had and got lost in the moment. Everytime he did that, my heart skipped a beat. It was the power he had over me.
"What the..." Lenny said and brought the both of us back to reality.
"Oh yeah, they are kind of a thing now," Jordan laughed.
My cheeks burned with embarrassment and buried my neck in the crook of Blake's neck. He put me down, but didn't leave my hand.
"I got so scared when I didn't see you near the stairs. I swear I thought I lost you," he whispered and kissed my forehead.
"I'm okay and you're not getting rid of my this easily," I said.
As we all made our way back to our cars, I looked around and saw everybody checking each other for any serious injuries and then laughing over some comment Brianna made.
This was certainly a day to remember.
Hello Angels!
I tried my best writing another action scene. I won't say I'm not proud of this because I am. But I also kept it short because I would have ruined it if I tried writing more.
LENNY IS BACK AND SAFE :)
TPP is close to the end and I can't wait to reveal who killed Rosalind.
I'm curious to know who you guys have in mind, let me know who you think killed Rose and lemme know your theories too! I can't wait to read 'em.
