Chapter 3: Brianna is still a bitch.

Derek and I booked an Uber and made our way to Brianna Sawyer's home. Brianna had a very cocky personality. She was always irritated and loved to make snarky comments.

Everyone in school found it hard to believe that Rosalind and Brianna were friends. They were they were like north and south pole.

She came to the city and didn't waste another second on adjusting. She started her own YouTube channel and posted covers of various songs that were loved by the people. Brianna knew her crowd.

Soon enough, she got over a thousands of subscribers and was called to open for Demi Lovato. It was a big deal. It was the deal that changed her life forever.

Right now, she had a million fans, two albums released and lived a lavish life. She was the owner of a humongous mansion. I mean, it was a mansion to me. For her, maybe it was just a small apartment.

Of course, Brianna and I didn't talk much after moving to New York, but we texted each other now and then.

I am pretty sure Brianna won't act like Rosalind's death would affect her and be cold. But, I was going to make sure that doesn't happen. She had no right to be so rude to her own deceased friend.

I hated how I started referring Rosalind as deceased. There was a slight feeling of anger in me. I wasn't angry at Rosalind, I was angry at me. That was something that I hid from Derek, something that could have maybe saved her.

As time passed, it was getting more difficult for me to hold on to the calm demeanor. I wanted to cry and scream. But I knew it wouldn't make any difference.

The car halted in front of a big gate. It was high enough for making it almost impossible for anyone to climb. It was guarded by two security officers who were already alerted by our arrival.

They walked towards the car as I paid the driver.

"Excuse me, you cannot enter this mansion. It is not for tourists." One of the guards said.

"We are not tourists. We are here to see Brianna Sawyer." I gritted.

"I'm sorry. But if we start allowing all the fans in, I'm pretty sure the house will be crowded the whole day. Now, bugger off." He spoke and shooed us away.

"Listen up, you asshole. I know you're doing your job but you don't have to be mean about it. We are not Brianna's fans, we are her friends. We need to see her as soon as possible and if you don't open the gates right now, I'll make sure she is soon informed about how you treated us and get fired from whatever agency you belong to." I breathed. I felt so much better now.

The security stared back at me, dumbfounded. Clearly, he underestimated me. All this time Derek was standing close to me, not reacting or speaking.

"Carlos, open the gates." He ordered the other security who was standing near the gate and looking at us.

He nodded and pressed a button, opening the gates slowly, I took Derek's hand in mine and led us in. Before going further into the house, I turned back to the guard who was rude to us and said, "Did you just give in so easy? Bro, you are so getting fired if Brianna gets murdered tonight."

He realized his mistake and instant regret appeared on his face. Fun.

We stepped inside and I immediately appreciated the decor. The lights from the chandelier illuminated the entire room. The floor shone so bright that it acted as a mirror. To the left, was a room which I'm guessing is the living or reading room since it had a fireplace, two red arm chairs and a coffee table.

To the right was another room where varieties of coats hung along with shoes neatly placed in a line. Further inside, was a flat screen T.V. a grey couch and another coffee table which looked exactly the same.

I gave Derek a look which indicated that I was impress with Brianna's choice.

"Looking for me?" I sweet voice chirped from above us.

Derek and I snapped our heads in the direction of the voice and Brianna stood on the first floor, wearing a black lacey dress which hugged her figure.

"Who else would we look for? I'm certainly not friends with your staff." I joked and she laughed.

We went closer to the foyer area and Brianna joined us. We went to the living room with the grey couch and sat there.

A maid greeted us with a tray of water and some green liquid.

I politely declined whereas Derek accepted the glass of water.

"What brings you guys here?" Brianna asked us with curiosity.

"Rosalind is dead." I replied, not looking for any further formality.

A flash of guilt spread in her eyes but she quickly recovered her posture. She looked over at Derek who was still drinking the water.

"I-I-how?" She finally asked.

"The police thinks she killed herself but I think she was murdered. None of the reason fits, but it's just my opinion." I replied.

"Rosalind would never kill herself!" She whispered just like me.

"We know." Derek nodded his head.

Brianna just sat there, staring at nothing. She processed the news and silence dominated the room.

"We are hosting a funeral and I would like you to be there." Derek informed and Brianna looked at me.

"I'm going and I'll also stay there for some time. I'll call at work and inform them. I think we should spend some time with the McAllister's and plus we'll also catch up with our families." I explained my voice filled with pain sand sorrow.

"I can't come. I have a performance here. I'm sorry." Brianna spoke.

"Your best friend just died and you care about your performance?" I asked not being able to digest her words.

"Yes. That's exactly what I'm implying." She lightly nodded.

Well guess what?

Brianna is still a bitch.

"Nobody is forcing you to extend your stay, just attend the funeral." Derek pleased.

"Brianna don't be so cold. I know you are hurting." I added.

"Of course I'm hurting. Rosalind is...I mean was our best friend! But this is more important to me."

I was enthralled with her attitude. Her response clearly hurt Derek even more.

"Please. It would mean a lot to me if you would come." Derek said, his tone as low as ever.

In return, Brianna just gave him an apologetic look and Derek closed his eyes.

"Let's go Derek. She is hopeless." I said not wanting him to hurt more.

As we were about to leave we heard Brianna say, "What do you mean by I am hopeless?"

I turned around and replied, "I mean that Derek practically begged you to be there, to support him emotionally. But instead, you chose to be selfish and say no. Do you even know how much he's hurting right now? His own sister passed away for god's sake! And there is even a slightest possibility that someone killed her. Do you know how difficult it is for him to go home and return to a house that wouldn't have Rosalind?"

Brianna gulped not daring to say a word.

"And not to forget, she was your friend. You best friend. The entire high school she has been with us. A part of our life and now she is just gone and there is nothing that could bring her back. I couldn't even say sorry to her. WE couldn't apologize for the fight and for turning our backs to her. We have been selfish for a long time now. So, we could show a little decency and attend the funeral and let her know that we regret that fight. We regret not talking to her or reaching out to her anymore." Derek squeezed my hand gently as my breathing increased.

"Brianna open your eyes. Rosalind is gone. Forever. You cannot call her anymore, you cannot text her anymore and you cannot meet her anymore. So, pardon me for thinking your are hopeless. Because if you are putting your career above you best friend's funeral than you are not just hopeless, you are cold and ignorant."

As I finished, Brianna put her head down and started playing with the hem of her dress. I know she was holding back her feelings. I know she wanted to breakdown and apologize for being so rude and heartless.

But instead, she just called out her maid's name. The same one who served us the drink came out, her head bowed down the entire time.

"Pack my bags. I'm going to Maplebirch."

Hello Angels!
