Chapter 23: The New Plan.

The week after Derek finding out the truth was difficult. After some serious discussion, we all decided to let him in on everything we found it.

He also relived the day Rosalind was raped and how she visited the orphanage.

He was stronger than ever. For some reason, he didn't shed a single tear. Maybe he was numb to the pain. Maybe he ran out of tears a long time ago. None of us questioned him.

"How exactly do you plan on catching the killer?" Derek questioned me.

I was introducing him to Blake and Kelly today. He wasn't nervous, he was looking forward meeting the two detectives who were going to catch his sister's killer.

"We follow the clues." I stated as if it was obvious.

"Has it helped you?" He mocked.

"Hey! Do you wanna do this or not?" I asked.

"I want to, but I think waiting around for them to help us is going to take forever."

"What are you suggesting?" I popped up a brow, but in return all I got was a sheepish smile.

Kelly and Blake usually never locked their door, so once we were home, I flung open their door.

Instead of seeing two serious people, I saw a half naked Blake who was in the middle of putting on his t-shirt. I shrieked, shut the door and then cringed.

How could I be so dumb?

"What's going on?" Kelly asked, licking the ice cream bowl clean. "Also, don't open the door, Blake's changing in there."

"Uh huh. Too late for that." I muttered under my breathe.

After waiting for what seemed like hours but was only a minute, Blake opened the door and eyes locked for a brief second.

My cheeks were flushed and shined bright red.

"I'm sorry. Kelly was too busy eating that she forgot to inform me." I apologised.

"That's okay." He smiled.

After Brianna admitted that she shipped me and Blake, I had gotten awkward around him. I was more conscious whenever he passed by me. I even looked away every time his eyes met mine.

As a detective, it wouldn't surprise me if Blake thought I was acting weird around him.

Brianna however enjoyed my physical pain to figure out why she shipped the two of us. Whenever we three were in the same room, a smirk never left her face.

I was still playing with the hem of my shirt, feeling embarrassed. I took them for granted and forgot about a thing called privacy.

"Hey," Blake's slow, velvety voice brought me back from my world  of Shane and regret. "It's not a big deal. You don't have to feel guilty."

"No! It was very indecent of me to just barge into the room." I admitted.

"Do I look like I'm mad?" He questioned me.

I looked at the floor, refusing to meet his eyes and managed to nod a small 'no.'

"If I'm not mad, why are you so hell bent of accusing yourself? It's honestly fine." He assured me.

I quietly walked into the room, feeling much better as I saw Derek near the murder board and Kelly hiding a toothy smile by covering her mouth with the help of her hands.

I looked back at Blake whose eyes were still fixated on me. He flashed me a really adorable smile because it wasn't really a smile. The mere fact that he tried giving me one of the assuring looks made me grin back at him.

"So, Derek here has an amazing plan to share." I announced and sat next to Kelly.

Derek cleared his throat and looked at the three of us completely confident with what he had to say.

"Valerie received the first note at Picasso and a week ago, I received a note at my place. This tells us that the killer is either following her and her friends or he is smart enough to plot the next move."

"Tell me something we don't know." Blake interrupted and I elbowed him, making him wince in pain.

"A second ago you wouldn't even look at me." He whispered, his pitch filled with betrayal.

"That was before you went to your old Sheldon Cooper self." I hissed back.

"Would it kill the two of you to focus to this man right here?" Kelly joined and I looked at Derek who had his arms crossed.

"Proceed." I ordered.

"What if we leave a note for them instead of them leaving a note for us?"

I proudly looked at Derek like I was his mother and he won a first prize in a school competition. Then I looked at Kelly and Blake who were in awe with the plan.

"Where will you leave the note and how do we know for sure that the killer will read it?" Blake interrogated.

"We will leave it at Picasso and the odds are that this plan would fail but something is better than nothing, right?"

The next two hours Derek and I struggled to come up with the perfect note for the killer.

Kelly helped brainstorm with us too, but Blake decided to sit in a corner and come up with a better plan.

"We can't implement this tomorrow!" Derek protested.

We had our note written. Derek has some business work tomorrow, so he wanted to delay the plan but I was too excited to wait.

We finally did something productive after ages and I was not going to wait for Derek to join us.

"We'll let you know how it went." I said. "Derek we have done nothing. You hear me, nothing! We finally have something to do and I can't wait and your stupid business meeting to get over."

He gave me a longing look before sighing in defeat. "But you call me immediately after it works, alright?"

"Sure."

"I wish I never had a meeting with my manager today." Brianna whined. I had just informed her about the little drama I created when I walked in on Blake.

I had called Brianna to inform what she missed on today and how we planned to threat the killer and get a step ahead.

"I am so glad you weren't here." I said.

"But you are telling me that you walked in on that man and saw his drool worthy muscles and he also assured you that it was okay?"

"Uh huh."

"And you still think there is nothing between you guys?" She asked.

"Uh huh."

"But why did you freak out? I mean it's not like you saw him completely naked."

"You have messed me up since you said you shipped us. I don't like it but I can't seem to forget it." I replied.

Even though we weren't in the same room, I felt her devilish smirk. I was not getting away with this anytime soon.

She was going to hold this against me for probably the rest of my life.

"You have fun with this, I'll call you tomorrow. I gotta go call Jordan now. Don't forget to tell Lenny we have to go to Picasso's tomorrow." I said and hung up the phone.

I plopped on the bed, placing my legs on the wall near the headset and searched for Jordan's number.

Once I dialled it, I waited for him to pick up but it went straight to voicemail. I tried multiple times but the outcome was the same.

It gave me an unsettling feeling because Jordan never dodged our calls. He knew that most of the times it was something important.

But at the same time I didn't want to overthink and jump to conclusions. He must probably be asleep given that it was late at night.

So, I decided to do the same after I had a glass of water.

Kelly was already in the kitchen eating vanilla ice cream.

I looked at her and furrowed my brows.

"Isn't that you're secon-"

"I know I know. I'm just on my period and I really want ice cream." She said before I could complete my question.

"Uh huh."

"You going to sleep?" She asked.

"Yep. I was just thirsty and I don't wanna wake up in the middle of the night and run around the house and let the demon to get me." I joked.

"Did you tell everybody to meet you tomorrow at Picasso?"

"Yep. Brianna and Lenny are informed, but Jordan isn't picking up his phone." I sighed, letting her know that I was bothered by it.

"You okay?"

"I don't know! I am getting this really bad feeling and it won't leave my gut." I confessed and threw my hands up in the air.

"You know how I usually catch killers?" She asked and I nodded.

"How?"

"I go with my gut." She smiled and gently put the empty bowl in the sink.

We both walked till her room and before she went in, she looked at me and said, "Always go with your gut."

I entered my room and sat back on the bed. I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep.

Kelly did have a point.

So, I called Lenny who had gotten really good friends with Jordan and waited for him the pick up the phone.

"Hello." He greeted me.

"Hey, I hope I didn't disturb you." I weakly asked.

"Oh no. I was watching a movie. What's up?"

"So, I was trying to call Jordan but he wouldn't pick up his phone and I know that he doesn't go to bed this early but at the same time I think he could be tired of something. Do you know for her if he is sleeping?"

"Umm...I- I think so." Lenny stuttered.

"Lenny, honest don't seem sure." I said.

I heard a heavy sigh on the other side of the phone and then knew that he was walking because there was a lot of shuffling.

"What's going on?" I questioned because he was dead silent on his side.

"This happened yesterday and he asked me not to tell any of you and focus on what we are going right now and I promised him but I don't really think that keeping it from you guys is a good idea." He said, his voice was heavy and nervous.

"You're freaking me out. Tell me what's going on?" I demanded.

"Jordan's in prison."
