Chapter 22: Ria McAllister.

I didn't expect Derek to find out. When he asked me to help him, I genuinely thought that he only wanted my help with the dishes.

But when I followed him in, he showed me a piece of paper.

It wasn't any piece of paper, it had the same handwriting as the rest of the notes we received.

I was relieved that it was only Derek and not one of his parents.

I panicked and thought it would be a good idea to call Valerie since she was better at confrontation than me.

So, I went out and gestured her to come with me.

"He knows." I stated.

"He knows what?" She asked me in confusion.

"He knows that Rosalind was murdered." I replied.

Valerie froze in shock but I pulled her.

Once we were back in the kitchen, she snatched the piece of paper from Derek's hand and read, "It's all fun and games, but what if the McAllister's find out that Rosalind didn't commit suicide?"

Valerie gritted her teeth knowing that this was done on purpose. The killer knew that one of the McAllister's were going to open the door.

"Is this true?" Derek looked at me.

"Yes." I answered.

"How could you guys not tell me! I was the one who flew all the way to New York to inform the both of you about my sister's death. You'll didn't have the decency to tell me something huge." He whisper-shouted.

"We couldn't tell you because you were so broken and we didn't want to give you false hope. All the four of us thought that it was some find of an ugly prank. None of us were aware that it was literal." I retorted.

"Let's go out. We will talk about this later. We don't want your parents wondering that something is wrong." Valerie spoke.

"They deserve to know." Derek argued.

"Listen up," I stepped closer to him, looking dead in his eye. "They do deserve to know but we don't even have a name for them. We always get an exciting clue but after solving, we go back to square one. You can tell them when we have some concrete answer for them."

I left the room and felt Valerie walking behind me.

After claiming our seats back, we gave Jordan and Lenny a worried look.

Derek knew and now he would want a part in our little group.

I didn't care but he was the most emotional of us all. We all lost a friend and a girlfriend but he lost his sister.

I didn't want him screwing our plans.

I also knew that Valerie would give in.

I had been a terrible friend to both Rosalind and Valerie. I already lost one of them but I didn't want to lose the other. So arguing was not an option. I just had to find a way for Valerie to agree with me.

I felt good standing up for Rosalind today. Whether she wanted the child or not, she loved it.

Valerie wanted the dinner to go nicely. She had threatened all of us to be on our best behaviours, but one of the worst things happened and now I was going to get some answers of mine without worrying about anybody.

"So, I know we all dodged that topic, but I am kinda curious. Did Valerie have a girl or a boy?" I smiled widely, trying to seem polite.

"It was a girl." Mr. McAllister answered.

"It was?" Lenny asked. "She never told me."

"You had your problems with her at that time. We didn't even do a proper gender reveal." He said.

"Why are you so interested in this kid?" Valerie looked at me sharply.

"Because Rosalind had promised me that I would be the godmother to her future child." I admitted.

"When did that happen?" Mrs. McAllister asked.

"We were at a park and were looking at a bunch of kids that day. That's when Rosalind told me. I was taken aback because I was selfish and usually was very blunt. But she told me that she believed in me. She believed that I would be a great godmother." I said. Everyone gave me an apologetic and pitiful smile, but that's not what I needed. I needed her parents to respect her again.

"Mr and Mrs. McAllister, I know that what happened to her was awful, but you cannot stop loving her for that. She just wanted to live herself for once and she did when she went to the bar. It wasn't her fault because she couldn't predict the future. You need to stop being angry at her for that. It wasn't the child's fault either. It was innocent. I didn't get a chance to prove myself as her godmother, but I could prove that right now by making the both of you respect your daughter again."

The room fell silent after I was done. None of them cried because everyone was numb to it now. But my words did affect each and everyone one.

"Come on." Mr. McAllister said. "Follow me."

I gave Derek a dazed look, but he just nodded his head in assurance.

I followed Mr. McAllister into Rosalind's room.

He opened the door and asked me to go inside.

When the lights were on, I breathed in and adored my new surroundings.

It wasn't Rosalind's room anymore. It was converted into a nursery. The walls were still in pastels but in pink. There was a small cradle to the very right and stickers of various princess were decorated on it.

I let out a small chuckle when I saw a giraffe onesie.

"I did all this three days ago. I woke up in the middle of the night and realised that my anger did no good. It was just an excuse to hide all the pain and the hurt. I wasn't going to show this to anybody. Derek and Layla are not aware of this either." He said.

"Why did you show it to me then?" I looked at him.

"Because you deserved it. You know what Brianna? You proved yourself. I'm sure that Rosalind and Ria would be proud of you." He smiled.

"Ria?" I furrowed my brows.

"That was her daughter's name. Rosalind wanted to give her your name, but shortened it to Ria."

Happiness filled my heart. Rosalind names her daughter after me. I didn't feel sad anymore.

I felt proud. I may have been selfish, but I did the right thing today.

I didn't even care if Derek was now the part of our group.

I had my half closure and that's all mattered to me."

Hello Angels!

Yes yes, I know I promised drama but our girl Brianna deserved her half closure.

Don't worry, the next chapter is going to be huge. Brace yourself because things are about to get dramatic.

I was too lazy to edit this chapter, so apologies for any typos or mistakes.
