Chapter 19: We all failed her.

The drive back home was more silent and satisfactory. I was no longer an anxious mess, if anything, I was confident.

It felt like a found a new purpose and all of my focus was ready to give its 100%.

I could not wait to tell this to the others because deep inside they were going through a similar feeling like mine. They all blamed themselves.

Jordan and Blake both looked at me and I could feel then smiling even when they were actually confused as to why I was suddenly so relaxed.

It was a beautiful feeling and I was never letting it go.

I was absent as a friend previously, but this was my chance to redeem myself. A chance to prove myself worthy. A chance to make Rosalind proud.

As Jordan pulled over, I saw Brianna and Lenny sitting on my porch, talking. I got out of the car excitedly and went to tell them everything.

Even about my half closure.

"How did it go?" Brianna asked.

"Me and Jordan punched the Lucas guy. But he isn't our killer since he didn't even know Rosalind's name until today. He wasn't even aware that she was pregnant." I answered.

"So, that means we are back to square one?" Lenny scoffed.

"Why are you being so negative?" I questioned, taking a seat next to them.

Jordan and Blake joined us too, but sensing the tension in the air, Blake decided to leave and notify Kelly.

It was the four of us, looking at each other, not uttering a single word. My happiness fades because I knew there was another storm coming.

Something wasn't right. Something was bothering Lenny and Brianna which I was unaware of.

"Lenny, why are you being so negative? Did something happen?" I asked again.

Jordan leaned against the wall, looking at Lenny.

"We don't think that us catching the killer is a good idea anymore." Brianna spoke.

"Why?" Jordan retorted.

"Because it has gotten us nowhere!" Lenny whispered, but the anger in his tone was evident. "We are just running around like maniacs unravelling parts of Rosalind's life which none of us were aware of. That's it. That's all we are doing. We are not coming close to the killer at all."

"And that's bad?" I looked at Lenny. "Is that a bad thing? You were supposed to be her boyfriend. You were supposed to know that she was unhappy. It was your duty to find out what was bothering her. But you failed her." Blake said, looking at Lenny.

"And you. You were supposed to be her best friend. You were supposed to be there when Lenny wasn't. You were her comfort. Her safe haven. But you forgot about her the moment you stepped out of this town." He said, pointing at Brianna.

"I'm not much of a mystery man. When I saved Rosalind, she felt happy. She found a new friend in me. So, she visited me many times and we used to hang out. She mentioned all of you and how you hurt her. But she never confessed it to you, because she didn't want to feel bad about yourselves. All of you were succeeding in your life, and she didn't want that determination to go away. She was failing too, but no one cared. So, I did. I took all of your jobs and told her that she can do it. She needs to go on and not lose her confidence." Jordan spoke, but his voice broke.

"I failed as a friend too. She wanted to change who she was. Instead of telling her that it wasn't her fault, I motivated her to change herself. I told her it was okay to be selfish, it was okay to let all of you go because you didn't deserve her love. But she was who she was because of you'll."

I got up, looking at a broken Jordan, a guilty Lenny and a crying mess of a Brianna.

"You know, I read somewhere that home is not a place. It's a person." I began. "We were Rosalind's home. But we kicked her out instead of providing her shelter. But now we have a chance to make it right. We have a chance to tell her that she wasn't wrong believing us, trusting us or even loving us."

Brianna wiped her tears and looked at me. Lenny's eyes were still glued to the ground, but I know he was listening.

"We may have not killed Rosalind, but we were ignorant and absent when she needed us. Don't you get it? That this isn't just finding out who killed Rosalind, it's about a chance to be present during her hard times by tracing her steps." I continued.

"We are as responsible for Rosalind's death. So, don't you dare back out now. We all have our reasons which is making us feel guilty. Own up to it and help me find who killed her." I finished speaking and looked at all of them.

I extended my hand, hoping that everyone would join me.

Blake came forward and rested his hand on top of mine, giving me and assuring nod. Shortly after, Brianna joined too.

I looked at Lenny who was still looking at the ground.

"Lenny, it's okay if you failed as a boyfriend. But you have a chance to make it right. Take it. Trust me, it's worth it." I told him.

He looked up to me and finally put his hand on top of ours.

"We can do this." I said.

"We won't rest until we find the killer." Lenny spoke.

"We will make sure we give him the correct punishment." Brianna chirped.

"And make Rosalind proud." Jordan smiled.

"1."

"2."

"3."

"LET'S GO." We all yelled in unison and put out hand up in the air.

Hello Angels!!

Another update in just two days :)

Now we all know why Jordan blamed himself for Rosalind's death too.

The Perfect Posse is unstoppable now. There is nothing the killer can do to make them back down now!

It's a small chapter, but I feel it has many emotions.

Let me know you thoughts.
