Chapter 18: Lucas the Evil Soul.
My feet tapped the ground impatiently. Jordan was coming over to pick me and Blake to go to the bar.
The original plan did not include me, but they thought it would be a good idea if I accompanied them. I was the only one to control both of them.
Now that we had the upper hand over the killer, our questioned were framed properly. It was an advantage to our interrogation. Honestly, I though it was very stupid of them to not leave a suicide note. Knowing Rosalind, that should have been the first move.
But it also bothered me that no one else spotted it. The cops swept the entire house and it was weird how no one though about. Or maybe they did think but we weren't informed?
Jordan finally honked, grabbing my attention and Blake's. He came out of my house wearing his leather jacket. I rolled my eyes and sat shotgun.
"If you're going to drive like a grandma, you better inform me first. At least I'll prepare myself accordingly." I said.
"Why are you so salty right now? Did something happen?" Jordan questioned.
"Let me see." I started, pretending to think. "You hid that you belonged to a biker gang. Rosalind's killer decided to be sloppy and you took forever to come here. I guess that should be enough to explain my mood."
"Why are you mad at the killer? Isn't it a nice thing he decided to be sloppy?" Blake intervened.
"Yes. But now I'm curious and these questions won't stop flooding my mind. I hate it when I overthink and jump to conclusions." I hissed.
"Isn't it something normal for you? All the girls I've met usually overthink." Blake commented, earning a death glare from me.
"Oh boy, you do not wanna go there." Jordan smirked.
I decided to stay silent for the rest of the ride, enjoying the humid but pleasant air and the soft music playing from the radio.
Staying silent and observing the nature helped me. It filtered all the bad thoughts and replaced them with good ones.
The car halted and I looked to my left. A small club with a huge parking lot where ample of bikes parked came in my view.
Before I could open my door to step out, Blake beat me to it. I looked at him and he gave me a toothy smile. I thanked and got out of the car.
Jordan walked towards the club very nonchalantly. It didn't surprise me knowing that he was part of the gang and he came here a lot of times.
I walked close to Blake because I got this sick feeling in my gut. Rosalind's life changed here. Blake sensed my tension and grabbed my hand, giving me an assuring tug.
We entered the bar and even if it was 10:00 am in the morning, darkness surrounded the place. Several LED lights and disco balls hung, making the entire room light up. The music did not glare but was loud enough.
Jordan looked back at us and gestured us to follow him to the bar. A bartender smiled widely, showing off his dimples as he saw Jordan approaching him.
"Hey man! It's been a long time since I last saw you." He greeted.
"I told you that I won't come in anytime soon." Jordan replied but I could see he was equally happy. "Oh and meet my friends, Blake and Valerie."
We both waved at the bartender together and he nodded his head back.
"By the way, have you seen Javier?" Jordan asked.
"Yeah, he should be in the very back either smoking pot or drinking."
"Thanks."
We all followed Jordan to wherever Javier was. My heart sped in my chest waiting to pop out. I wasn't ready to see the monster who ruined Rosalind's life.
Javier was bartending that night. The night when another guy and charmed Rosalind.
My feet stopped moving as I froze. Blake stopped too and looked back at me. Jordan did the same.
"I'm sorry, I just need a second." I breathed.
"It's fine. Take as long as you want. I know this isn't easy for you." Blake comforted me.
"Since when did you start saying the correct thing to people?" I joked, trying to calm my mind and heart.
"Since you keep giving me your death glare everytime I'm insensitive." He smiled.
I smiled and then looked at Jordan who was also fighting his own emotions.
"You okay, there?" I asked him.
"Yeah. I'm just trying to control my anger. I don't wanna lose it when we go see who did it." He confessed.
"It's not a big deal even if you hit the guy. He deserves it." I spoke.
After another minute, we resumed and finally made it to the very end of the club.
A guy with a manbun and his hands covered with tattoos, held a glass of whiskey in his hand and was flirting with one of the girls surrounding him.
Jordan hesitated but eventually called out to Javier who immediately got up to hug Jordan.
I stood there witnessing everything and saw how happy Jordan actually looked around here.
"Hey, I want to stay and chat, but do you remember that day when you told me someone took a girl out through the back door?" Jordan questioned and Javier shrugged.
"I've seen many guys take the girls outback, I don't remember."
"Try remembering harder then." Blake stepped up. "It's an urgent matter and we need your cooperation."
"Is this an interrogation?" Javier looked at me and then back at Jordan.
"Absolutely not. We just need to answer the question. Please. You know if it's wasn't serious, I wouldn't have approached you." Jordan insisted.
"Well, how did she look?"
"She had these mesmerising blue eyes and jet black hair. Her smile was satisfying and had a very calm and pure aura around her." I described Rosalind.
"Oh yeah yeah. I remember her. Honestly, she didn't look like a club going kinda gal, but yeah...Lucas Davenport flirted with her. I tried to stop her, but she didn't really listen to me." Javier finally spoke.
"Of course." Jordan sighed and then massaged his temple. "I know where Lucas lives."
"Is he part of the gang too?" I questioned Jordan as he quickened his pace.
"Yes. But not ours. He is one of the dickheads of our rival gang."
We reached the car and I sat on the back and kept my mouth shut without further riling Jordan up. Clearly, this Lucas guy hit a nerve. Even Blake didn't utter a single word.
The tired screeched as Jordan hit on the brakes. He got out of the car and stomped towards the small trailer which I assumed to he Lucas's home.
Blake and I looked at each other awkwardly and stood next to Jordan who knocked on the door, so strongly that I was afraid it would break.
An annoyed grunt lingered in the air as Lucas opened the door. Jordan pulled him outside by his collar and was about to punch him but I interrupted. I stopped and he looked at him with his blood boiling.
"Don't hit him right now." He furrowed his brows. "Hit him after I'm done punching him."
Blake whistled impressed by my anger. "You know usually, I'm supposed to stop these fights, but since it's an unofficial case, how about I help to hold Lucas while you both beat him to a pulp."
I shrugged and punched his face. I felt the pain in my knuckles but I was too angry to care. After throwing a few more punches, I finally ended the scene by kneeing him where the sun doesn't shine.
Once I was done, I looked at both the guys who looked at me with their jaw on the ground. "Don't look so impressed, I was just furious."
Before we could let Lucas speak, Jordan threw the last punch and then Blake let go of him as he spat some blood on the ground.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH ME?" Lucas yelled.
"Do you remember a few months ago, you raped a girl? Well, these are the girl's friends and they want payback." Blake spoke on behalf of us.
"Why now? Why not when I did it?" Lucas asked.
"Because she is dead." I screamed.
For the first time, there was no hurt, there was only anger. It felt like I finally accepted that she was gone. Like I got my closure. Maybe I did. But I know it wasn't over. I would get my whole closure when I put the bastard behind the bars.
"That ain't my fault." Lucas laughed. "If that bitch couldn't handle it, you have no right to attack me like this."
Blake crouched down to match his height and stared deeply into his eyes before slapping him so hard that he fell back on the ground.
"She was pregnant with your kid. You ruined her life and her relationship with her boyfriend, I think that's very much your fault." Blake whispered.
"She was what?" Lucas looked at us in horror. "I had no idea."
"So you're telling me you didn't know about her pregnancy? Or you didn't see her again or tried to shut her up forever?" I curiously asked.
"What? No! She didn't commit suicide?" Lucas retorted back.
"You have no authority to question us back." Jordan hissed.
"You sure you didn't see her again?" Blake calmly asked.
"No. I mean why would she come back to her own rapist to tell him she is pregnant? I swear, I didn't see her again. I don't even know her name." Lucas spoke. His voice told me he was speaking the truth and he also did have a good point.
"He didn't do it." Blake came to us. "We can still arrest him for raping her. I mean he practically confessed it, but we can't book him for murder."
"Fine. Arrest him for raping." I gritted my teeth.
He nodded and called someone on the phone. I looked at Jordan who was breathing heavily, looking at Lucas with disgust.
"You okay?" I asked him again.
"If he didn't do it, then who did?"
"I don't know. But we still have time to figure it out. We'll still have the clues come in." I answered.
Blake came and said that the sheriff of the town was going to temporarily hold him before the officers come to take him away.
We walked back to the car and a small smile made its way to my face. I may have been a bad friends when Rosalind was alive, but fighting her for right now felt good.
I finally stopped blaming myself for her death and could now focus completely on finding the killer.
Hello Angels!
I'm finally back and I apologise for this brief period of me being MIA. I had other things to focus on.
But now that I'm back, what did you think of this chapter?
Valerie got her half closure and I want each and everyone to their half closures, so before we find the actual killer, I'll write chapters where everyone stops blaming themselves.
It was honestly fun to write this chapter. Especially the scene where the kick Lucas's ass.
Let me know your thoughts.
