Chapter 13: Parties are so difficult to host.
Jordan came to pick me up the next day. We decided to get the decorations first so that both the guys could start decorating Brianna's place.
I left my house and looked at Jordan who was leaning against his motorbike with his hands in the pocket.
"That's a motorbike." I stated.
"I'm aware since it is mine." He sassed back and I gave him an uninterested glance.
"I cannot get on this. I thought you had a car." I whined.
"Do you have fear of motorbikes?" He asked me.
"No. I'm just scared that I'll make both of us fall off of it. I'm not good with balance."
"Don't worry. I won't let it happen. Get on it." He said, getting on his bike and then gesturing me to sit behind him.
I gulped and got closer, placing both my hands on his shoulders and then carefully sitting. His legs were firmly placed on the ground, maintaining the balance.
As I was settled, he ignited the engine making the hike roar and then drove away. My eyes were closed and hands were tightly holding his shoulders. He was very careful while driving, acknowledging my fear.
"We are here." He announced, turning off the engine. It was a twenty minutes ride, twenty most dreadful moments of my life.
I hurriedly got off and waited for him to join me. Target wasn't much crowded since it was only 9:00 am.
Without wasting another second, we entered and directly walked to the food section. I was in charge of the trolley while Jordan stuffed nachos, coloured water, juice and ingredients for lasagna.
All of this was requested by Brianna because she had an amazing cook who was going to prepare onion dip, hummus and the lasagna.
Later we dropped by the decoration aisle and brought some balloons.
There were four people ahead of us when we went to the cashier so we just waited in line.
"Why don't you ever talk about how you met Rosalind?" I asked him.
"The place and state we met in is not something I'm proud of." He admitted painfully.
"How come Lenny isn't aware of you too? I mean Brianna and me, I understand. We weren't a huge part of her life, but Lenny also?"
"She didn't speak about me much to people over here." He answered.
"Does it hurt you?" I whispered.
"No. It doesn't."

Jordan dropped me off to the mall where Brianna was impatiently waiting for me. As she saw me, she squealed and ran in for a hug.
We both entered the centrally cool mall hand in hand and took a deep breathe as we were inside.
Earlier, the three of us used to come here a lot. Not just to shop, but to eat or just hang out. I know this mall like the back of my hand. It was good to visit all the old places which were rich with memories.
"What do you want to buy crust? Shoes or clothes?" She questioned cheerfully.
"Neither. I just came to accompany you. I don't want an outfit, I already have clothes to wear." I confessed.
She stopped abruptly and then gasped after dramatically putting her hand on her chest.
"Valerie Annalise Hudson, you don't say! You are going to wear those old, rugged clothes to our first party after all those years here in Maplebirch?"
"That is the plan."
"Well, change the plan then! I'll buy you an outfit if you're worried about money. I will be posting picture on my Instagram. I want my best friend to look presentable and praise worthy." She informed.
"This is how it must feel to be friends with a famous celebrity." I muttered under my breathe and silently followed her to Forever 21.
She halted and and scanned the entire shop. After doing this for a second, she walked in the direction of evening dresses hanging delicately from the hanger with its hypnotising beauty illuminating the part of the shop.
I won't lie, they were very breathtaking. I would be a proud owner of one of these. She aggressively started rejecting those she didn't like and I just stood there not knowing what to do.
"For the record, people will probably attend the party in their sweats, the both of us will be the only idiots dressed as if this was a ball." I commented.
"I don't care about them. I care about myself. And you...of course." She said.
"You do know that you sound like a rich spoiled brat right now?" I asked.
"I know. OH MY GOD! These are the perfect dresses for us!" She exclaimed, giving a fright to the old lady next to her. "Let's try them on."
We both sprinted towards the trail room with our excitement on the peak. Brianna was right next to me trying her dress on. While stripping down, I decided to make a small conversation.
"Do you wonder about Brianna and Lenny's relationship?" I asked.
"Oh how I envy them both so much." She muttered.
"Jesus, not like that." I corrected her. "Lenny isn't aware how so many aspects of Rosalind's life either. He didn't know Jordan, he doesn't know her genuine happy place. He didn't even-"
"Are you saying that they were having some trouble in their relationship?" She asked.
"Yes. Maybe they were having a fight that Lenny doesn't want to talk about. I'm not saying we force him to speak, but if it is going to help with our investigation, then I think she should speak."
"I agree." She replied and then we were both silent.
I had already tried on the down and stared at myself in the mirror. I gasped as I noticed a completed different lady standing right in front of me.
I was wearing a white gown with black polka dots all over the dress. It also contained a black belt write above the waist and a little beneath it was a long slit which allowed me to show off my freshly shaved legs. The sleeves gave the entire dress an elegant touch since they were made of net.
"I look so pretty." I sniffed.
"Me too." Brianna replied.
We both opened our doors and showed off our dresses to each other.
"Brianna! You look like a princess." I smiled and complimented her.
Her gown was of course more fancy. It was covered in shimmer making the royal blue colour pop. The spaghetti straps and the golden belt with leaves just made it look more royal. Her dress was figure hugging and mine was more with a flow.
"Can we buy this, please? I change my mind. I don't mind if I look stupid and overdressed, but it feels like this dress belongs to me." I pleaded and she just nodded her head.

We reached Brianna's house holding our own dress bags. Lenny opened the door and the entire living room looked amazing! It was decorated with balloons and glitter and the lights were adjusted according to the mood of the room.
Brianna assigned them both a room to get dressed and we went to hers. After I slipped in my dress, I helped Brianna with her makeup and she helped me with mine. Of course, she wore a blue smokey eyeshadow with some pink blush and an orange lipstick.
On the other hand, I just applied peach blush and a pink lipgloss along with a white winged eyeliner.
We didn't even realise the the guests had already arrived. So, we descended the stairs gracefully. The music stopped and everyone looked at us. A few of them gasped while others just smiled.
As suspected, everyone were in jeans and a fancy t-shirt. Brianna an I were the only ones completely dressed.
The slow motion effect ended as I realised how stupid I felt now. As I got down the last step, Jordan came forward and extended his hand.
I just blindly stared at him for a second. "What am I supposed to do with your hand?"
"Hold it." He replied.
"This isn't a ball. Stop making me feel even more stupid about overdressing." I told him.
"What are you talking about? You look absolutely stunning." He complimented which made me blush and look at the floor.
"Of course she does, all of this was my choice." Brianna cut in.
She then took my hand and led me through the living room. She clapped her hands, making everybody look at us.
"This isn't a fun party. I threw this party so that everyone could remember our dear friend Rosalind. We all have been taking the news pretty hard and I wanted to tell everybody over here that if they ever want to talk, they could approach me, Valerie or Lenny." She announced and everybody's happy faces turning into depressed faces.
I spotted Jessica in the crowd who wiped a tear away. She had transformed very well over the years. She genuinely looked like a nice person and no more looked like HBIC.
After the small speech and a song from Brianna, everybody went back to drinking, eating and dancing to the music.
"Okay, I'm gonna go talk to Jessica and you confront Lenny." Brianna ordered me.
"What exactly are you going to ask her?" I rose my eyebrow.
"Stuff." She replied.
"This may sound weird, but I don't trust you. How about we both talk to Jessica and then we both confront Lenny?" I suggested.
"Fine, whatever." She sighed in exasperation.
We both made our way to Jessica who was standing in a corner, browsing on her phone.
"Hey, Jessica." Brianna greeted her.
"Why are you dressed like you are meeting a queen?" She asked Brianna.
"That's because unlike some people, I have to pretend that I'm enjoying myself over here. You see, there are millions of followers on Instagram who are waiting for my posts." She smugly replied.
"Brianna can you not? You sound really mean. We are past the phase of hating each other." I stopped her from doing further damage.
"But she bullied me!" Brianna whined.
"And Rosalind saved us." I answered and she zipped her mouth.
"We didn't talk to Rosalind much after shifting." I started, "I can't believe she was depressed and sad."
"I know right! I was shocked by the news too. She was still the bubbly girl we all knew. I have no idea what suddenly happened." Jessica said.
"Didn't she have any happy places where she genuinely felt like herself?" I slyly asked her, trying to not sound suspicious.
"She recently started loving to go to the orphanage. She never told me why." Jessica shrugged.
"Was she going to make a donation over there? Why would she suddenly start visiting the orphanage." Brianna questioned.
"Beats me. She stopped visiting me a month ago. We only used to call or text each other." Jessica said.
"Well, thanks...and sorry." Brianna said we left.
We were shortly joined by Kelly and Blake.
"You girls looks amazing." Blake compliment looking at Brianna and observing her from head to toe.
"Thank you." I gave him a toothy smile.
"Did you guys find something?" Kelly asked us. "We didn't. We asked around and nobody knew her that well."
"Jessica Monroe, she told us she loved going to the orphanage. We don't know why."
"Awesome! This should be enough. We will go home and find out more." She smiled.
Before leaving, Blake once more turned around to look at us...more specifically at Brianna.
We stood near the table and ate a few nachos before confronting Lenny.
"Hey!" I chirped. "You enjoying the party?"
"No. Parties are so difficult to host. I've been saving Brianna's house from serious damage." He honestly replied.
"You'll get the hang of it." I patted his back.
"Lenny?" Brianna said. "Valerie and I think you're hiding something from us. Look, we are all in this together and we need you to help us out as much as you could."
"Yes. We weren't an active part of Rosalind's life. But you were. She loved you and you reciprocated that feeling. Then why all the secrecy?"
Lenny looked us with guilty eyes. His whole body had frozen. Jordan too joined us and looked at Lenny. All the four of us just stood there in silence waiting for him to speak up.
"We were having a fight." Lenny finally blurted.
"About what?" Jordan spoke.
"Rosalind was pregnant."
2085 words!!!! This has to be the longest chapter I ever wrote!
Anywhoo....I just found out there is an actual person named Valerie Hudson, so I'll have to change her last name. Please don't get confused...they are the same person.
ROSALIND WAS PREGNANT! Whaaaat?! I did not see that coming. Actually I did, but you guys didn't see it coming, did you?
Also...now for the dresses.
Brianna's dress.
Valerie's dress.
Let me know what you thought of this chapter?
