Chapter 11: We are going to the cemetery.
After the meeting, all I did was binge watch Big Bang Theory and eat. I had no idea what to do with my life. It was something that I experienced even in the city. Finally, I gave up and decided to go to sleep earlier than usual. So, I changed into my spongebob pajamas and went to bed.
I woke up to the sound of stones hitting my window. The clock indicated 1:00 am, so I had no one in mind who would want me up at this time. I knitted my brows with confusion and walked over to the window to open it.
"Where art thou, Romeo?" I asked in my raspy, sleepy voice.
"No, Val. No Romeo, it's me Brianna." A voice replied.
That's when my eyes finally adjusted to the dark and I saw Brianna wearing a red coat and black pants.
"What are you doing here?" I questioned.
"Jordan and Lenny are waiting in the car. We are going to the cemetery." She answered.
"What? Why?" My voice was now high pitched and filled with confusion.
"Stop asking questions and just get your ass down. NOW!" Brianna ordered and I closed my windows.
I knew I was going to regret going to the cemetery, but there was no way I was turning down a possible adventure. I put on my slippers and left, not bothering to comb my hair or change clothes. I tiptoed to the door, carefully taking each step as if my life depended on it.
I turned the doorknob and silently shut the door behind me. Brianna was impatiently waiting outside for me. Her lips were glossed and her face covered with foundation. Even in the middle of the night she looked like presentable. On the other hand, I looked exactly like a potato but I did not really care.
Lenny ignited the car as we got closer and Brianna and I slid into the passenger seat. Jordan scanned my from top to bottom and then his eyes met mine. I rose an eyebrow, daring him to say his thoughts out loud.
"Can somebody please explain the situation to me now?" I spoke.
"We are going to play the Ouija board near Rosalind's grave. I know it is stupid, but today when you offered it did look pretty appealing. I had a spare one in the attic and called Lenny." Brianna showed me the box. I looked at the guys who had a smirk on their faces.
"You guys actually went along?! This is nuts. Brianna I was joking about the Ouija board." I told her.
"Well, I took it seriously and now we are going to play." She defended herself. This girl amuses me sometimes.
I just sat there in silence. All of my sleepiness washed off after I found why I sneaked out of my house in the middle of the night. This will add to one of the stupid decisions I took even after having a gut feeling about it.
We parked the car somewhere safe and found Rosalind's grave. I squatted down and touched her headstone. I looked at her name written in bold and the same pain, the same guilt took over me. Lenny put a hand on my shoulder as he sat besides me. I could see Jordan struggling to come near her grave.
"She won't bite." I whispered to him.
He nodded and I scooched to make some space for him. He sat down and looked emotionless at her grave. His hands ran through his hair as his eyes pooled with tears.
"Guys, we don't have all night." Brianna whisper-screamed.
We all surrounded the Ouija board which was placed on the mildly wet grass. I removed my phone and read the rules to be followed. I had a lot on my plate right now to handle a revenge hungry evil spirit right now.
We all placed our index finger on the planchet and circled it around the board thrice and introduced ourselves. We also asked if any spirits wanted to contact us but got no response. We tried again but failed.
"Maybe this was a bad idea." Lenny said.
"Finally!" I thanked him for agreeing.
But in that moment the planchet moved to the alphabet H and then I. I felt a gush of wind as goosebumps appeared on my hands and legs. I gulped in fear and then just let out a nervous laughter to cover up my anxiety.
"Who did it?" Jordan asked.
"Brianna?" I called out to her who was staring blankly at the board.
"I didn't do it." She admitted. "Why do you suspect that I did something?"
"Because you're desperate!" I confessed. "The reason you are doing this is to get some closure. Ouija boards work on the desperation factor. You came here with the hope to contact Rosalind and you subconscious brain processed that. Now, it is going to protect you by making you believe that a ghost contacted you but in reality, its just your hands doing it."
"Can you not go all psycho analytical on me for a second!" She screamed.
"Shush! You'll wake up the dead." Lenny joked, trying to avoid this argument but instead the three of us just glared at him.
"Does it make me a bad person for wanting closure? No! We all want it. We all desperately want it and anyway, I did not move the planchet. So, stop blaming me and ask it a question." Brianna snapped.
I didn't say anything but just looked down. She wasn't wrong. She was the only one who admitted it out loud.
"Is Rosalind here with us?" I asked and the planchet moved to no.
"Then who are we speaking to?" Jordan asked.
K-A-Y-L-A. We all looked at each other unsure of what to do next.
"Kayla, do you know Rosalind?" Lenny added.
NO
"We would like to say goodbye then." Brianna spoke and within a second the planchet slid through the word goodbye.
"This was a bust." I whispered. "I'm sorry."
"It's fine. Though, Kayla is probably mad because we didn't talk to her." Brianna shrugged.
"Look." Jordan said as he pointed out at a figure wearing a hoodie. We could not see anything else since it was pitch black, but whoever the person was, threw something in the air and walked away. It was eery and creepy. It didn't help the situation since we were already in the cemetery.
We all rushed to the spot and saw a note lying on the grass. I picked it up and unfolded it.
"Is it a note we got in the diner?" Brianna asked.
"Yes, the handwriting match."
"What does it say?" Lenny questioned.
"Rosalind tried to be happy all the time. But there was this one place where she got genuine happiness from. Find out the place to know what I'm talking about."
"How do we know what place they are talking about?" Brianna looked at me.
"We find it out."
Hello Angels!
My exams are finally over and I was planning to write everyday, but I also have to edit my two books, so probably will publish one chapter in a week.
Anywhooo...enjoy! Who do you think was the guy at the cemetery?
I so wanted to write a chapter with the Ouija board.
