9| Believe Me Because I'm Telling The Truth

I woke up in my bed, which now seemed to be a usual thing for me. I quickly took a shower and got dressed so I could get to the bottom of this funny business. Apparently that is an expression humans use. Hunter had explained it to me the other day, but this "business" didn't seem very funny right now.

I had two extremely annoying and untrustworthy boys to talk to. Why is my life such a mess right now? I've almost died 3 times in the past month! Or was it four?

Running down the stairs I ran into the kitchen, and my dad was in his usual spot drinking coffee and reading old newspapers from the 90s.

"Hi dad," I said sitting next to him.

"Good morning sweetie. What's with the long face?"

He must have noticed my glum expression. Well I guess it would be better to tell him than to keep it from him. He was my dad, I could trust him with anything, right?

"Well yesterday Hunter...umm.. kissed me and then–"

My dad had slammed his coffee cup back on the table, causing me to jumped slightly. His face held no emotion but I could tell he was angry, by the look in his eyes.

Regaining his composure he looked towards me and muttered something.

"What?"

I fiddled with my fingers before telling him again, hoping he wouldn't interrupt me this time. Getting through this was hard enough.

Once I got that part over with he motioned for me to continue. I knew with what was coming he would blow up even more.

"And then Benjamin was stalking me, and he was threatening me because he saw Hunter kiss me. He was threatening to kill Hunter, and then he tried to.... be tried to.."

"He tried to what?" My dad asked, his coffee cup and newspaper set aside. His eyes were on me.

"He tried to kill me," I whispered.

I was unsure if I had spoken loud enough. But my mental question was answered when my dad raced across the room. All I heard was a loud slam of the front door, and the whoosh of his wings as he flew out.

I rubbed the temples of my aching head and sighed deeply. This was just too much stress.

My dad returned within the hour, and told me to follow him to the council room. I had been in here multiple times for various reasons, but each time made me feel like I was the one in trouble.

I walked in and glared at Benjamin who was no longer in his council seat but in a chair in the corner of the room. He kind of looked like a pouting baby.

Suck it up, you little shit.

"Do you Pandora have any proof of what the accused may or may not have tried to do?" I looked up slightly fixing my gaze on the elder who was speaking.

"I'm the proof! What I said was true!" I yelled getting angry that they were questioning my credibility.

"The only proof you provide is your word. Is there nothing else you can show us?"

I thought of Hunter and Mason. I could say one of them saved me, but I didn't know which. I didn't want to bring both of them into this mess.

My dad remained silent as the other two Leaders watched me. Benjamin was sitting silently as well.

"Until you can provide us with further proof we cannot take any action to remove him from the council."

I stared at them flabbergasted. My dad was frowning and looking at me sympathetically. How could they not believe me?! I took a deep breath before trying to plead my case some more.

"But if he came to you saying I tried to kill him you would believe him, wouldn't you? Are you saying I don't remember the burning sensation in my lungs as he tried to choke me? Are you saying I don't remember the terrible fear of falling to the ground, only to find someone with a rusty dagger standing over you like the angel of death?!"

They looked towards one another wearingly. My dad's eyes were pleading. I could tell he was worried. I knew he wanted to believe me. But instead of answering they only looked back towards me.

"Pandora I'm sorry but we cannot-"

"Wait!"

Turning around I saw Mason standing in the doorway. I tried to get him to make eye contact with me, but not once did he even look in my direction. He was still mad at me.

"I was there! I saw her crash to the ground, and I saw as he stood over her with his dagger!"

Mason looked coldly towards Benjamin, and then towards the council. Mason stepped closer to me almost close enough for contact, and I swear he gave me a side glance.

I sighed in relief. I was off the hook for Benjamin's idiocy, even though I should have never been on the hook.

Hopefully Mason would believe me for the Hunter thing as well. Yikes, all the guys here are idiots.

Mason looked towards me again, but he wasn't smiling. If anything he seemed to have no emotion at this particular moment. His face held a blank stare.

The remaining council members were talking in a hushed whisper, as I examined Mason some more.

"We hereby declare that Benjamin Beck is removed from the council and is to be withheld from community social events until further notice."

They looked down at Benjamin as he stayed silent.

"You are under house arrest for the next two weeks as well. Meeting adjourned. Case closed. Pandora you are free to go."

I walked out of there quicker than lightning. I was so glad to be free of that, but I still had to deal with Mason. And looking around he was already gone. Why won't he stay and talk to me?! That big baby!

I ran to his house hoping he had gone there. Knocking on the door his mother answered. She had auburn hair, and brown eyes like Mason. She greeted me with a smile and gave me a side hug.

"I haven't seen you in a while. We should really get together more often."

I nodded and smiled back. She was like a second mother to me.

"I'm sorry to be so blunt, but have you seen Mason?"

She shook her head quickly and placed her hand on her hip.

"I think he said he was going to the woods, but if he's not there then I have no idea where he is."

I nodded and thanked her before flying off in that direction. I intended to find Mason this time, and without almost getting killed along the way.

Looking through the forest became exceedingly boring after 20 minutes of no shows. I looked everywhere except the tree. I wanted to save that for last, but since I had almost given up I headed that way anyways. With the tree in full view, and Mason not in view at all I gave up, and laid upon my branch.

"Ughhhhhh Mason!" I yelled as I heard my voice echo and bounce off the trees.

"Ughhhhh Pandora!"

I turned my head quickly looking for Mason. I didn't see him anywhere. Had my mind been playing tricks on–

"Down here," he said looking up at me.

He was laying on the ground behind the tree. The ground.

"What are you doing down there?" I asked blankly.

"Napping and if you don't mind I would like to get back to that."

I dropped from the tree, using my wings to balance and lower myself to the ground, so I didn't splinter my ankles.

"Mason we need to talk."

He muttered something under his breath before looking at me.

"Why? Want to tell me about your new boyfriend?" He asked annoyed.

"He's not my boyfriend! You are!" I yelled making sure he heard me.

His gaze softened, but slowly hardened as he got lost in his own thoughts.

"Mason?"

No answer.

"Mason?"

No answer, again. Was he ignoring me.

"Mason?!"

Still no answer. Okay maybe he really was ignoring me. He must really hate me now.

"MASON!?!?" I yelled in his ear.

"Why did you kiss him?!" He yelled finally saying something. His eyes said he was in pain.

Had the kiss really hurt him that much?

"I didn't," I said grumbling, "he kissed me!"

He looked into my eyes, and it almost seemed as if he was embarrassed, "what?"

"I promise I didn't kiss him. He surprised me as much as he surprised you. I didn't even realize you were there until afterwards. But that's why I think he did it."

He nodded slowly and looked away. Hah, he was totally embarrassed now. Serves him right.

"You really mean it when you say I'm your boyfriend?" He asked looking into the distance.

"Well you're not my girlfriend are you?" I asked chuckling.

He looked back towards me and smiled. I leaned in and kissed him softly. He returned it with a passionate kiss.

"Did I ever tell you how much I missed you?" He asked planting another kiss on my lips.

I shook my head and laughed, as he kissed me below my ear. Sliding closer to him and wrapped his arms around me along with his large wings.

"I love you Pandora," Mason whispered.

I felt myself smile and whisper, "I love you too."

I don't know how long we sat there, but the stars were shining brightly, and we were comfortable and happy. I didn't know how long it would last, but we might as well enjoy it as it does.
