12| A Sickness Never Heard Of Pt. 2
Two days had gone by, and I was still sick. My headaches had gotten worse and caused me to have dizzy spells. My nose was running and my stomach felt like it was tied in a not, making any food seem distasteful and unappetizing.
My father had offered me some pain medicine, but it did little to relieve my symptoms. Not only that, but we don't have enough that I can continue to take it. We've been running low on medicine lately. It's not like we can just walk into a store and buy it. We have to steal it.
That is why Mason was gone for a weak. His mother had gone to the human world to get some more medical equipment, and she had taken Mason along. Though his wings weren't easily disguised, one day he would be doing her job of going to the human world.
Mason still hung out with me everyday, and kissed my forehead each time he came over even though I was sick. Each and every time I pushed him away, so he wouldn't have any chance of getting sick. He only frowned, and I would reply with another raspy cough.
My coughs had gotten worse, and almost every time I coughed up something or started choking. Overall I had gotten a lot weaker, thus the couch became my home. I was waited on hand, foot, and wing constantly.
At first I was fine with it, but then it got so annoying that I would try to do it myself, and then Mason would yell at me for getting up. Thankfully he learned to yell quietly because of my constant pounding headache.
I felt like a complete invalid even though my mother told me it was for the best. She was always there watching Mason and I from afar, and when I got cold she would make tea while Mason sat with me to keep me warm. But he wasn't here today, so I was rather lonely.
My father hadn't been around much lately. My mom said it was because of council meetings, but honestly I didn't really know or care. I was in too much pain to care.
Hunter hadn't stuck around either. I could tell he didn't really like me. Every time I tried to talk to him he just ignored me. I guess we were back to phase one again.
Taking a slow sip of my..tea? I don't even remember what it was. But as I took a slow sip, I knocked my book against the cup, and spilled it all over me. Screaming, I flopped onto the floor. Cursplat.
I heard my mom running down the stairs before I saw her. She ran over asking what happened. I only looked down at my shirt and started to cry.
"Shhh sweetheart it's okay. Let's get you cleaned up," she soothed. I felt like she was talking to me as if I was five.
I tried to get my hot sticky shirt away from my burnt skin, but it only stung me further. Sitting on the floor, I let my mom help me take off my shirt, as I could not do it without crying. A few stray tears fell down my cheeks, and I moved my slightly burned hands to wipe my tears, but it only hurt my burns more.
My mom rushed into the kitchen to get what I figured would be something cold. I was hoping it was an ice pack or ice cream.
I heard the front door behind me open and close, but I was in to much pain to turn around. The person took a few steps, but then stopped most likely to stare at me..topless, in a bra.
I moved my head to the side, and saw Mason smirking at me..topless, in a bra. My face felt like it was on fire again. I was mortified. And I wanted to smack that smile off his face, but that would require moving.
What I didn't realize was that Hunter was right behind him, watching me, until he said, "ooh la la~"
"Get out!" I screamed. "Get out! Get out! Get out!"
"Fine," he murmured, as Mason gave him a dirty look.
A soft whisper escaped my lips as the pain continued. I whimpered again before he came over, and knelt down next to me. His sly smile turned into a frown, as he looked at my red chest and hands.
Mason picked me up careful enough not to touch me anywhere that may cause pain or discomfort. He walked up the stairs and into my room.
Setting me on the bed he took a green t-shirt from my drawer and carefully slipped it over my head and arms. I let out a low whimper, as it grazed my burns. He took my hand in his and lifted it up, as he gently blew cold air on it.
I shivered, and let out a round of coughs, as I reached for the blanket on my bed.
"How did you burn yourself?" Mason asked, as he continued blowing air on my hands.
"I spilled my tea," I muttered barely finishing before I coughed again.
Mason heaved a sigh before picking me up and carrying me back down the stairs. My mom was making a lot of noise in the kitchen, so I guess she didn't even notice I had left and come back, or that Mason was here, or that Hunter had seen me. That was probably a good thing.
I heard a loud crash before my mom yelled, "I'm fine!"
She ran back into the living room, and slowed as she saw Mason sitting with me (no longer topless thank god).
In her hands she had a few towels, an icepack, some bandages, and a tube of something. Toothpaste? Cream? Lotion? Toothpaste? Ointment? Tooth...wait I already said that.
My mind has been working in circles lately. It didn't really help that I could only focus on one thing at a time. It was pretty clear when I spilt my tea while trying to read. Oh no! My book!
I quickly grabbed my book and flipped through its pages, making sure I hadn't stained it with my tea. Thankfully, my book was alright.
"Ow!" I yelled as my mom rubbed something over my collarbone and chest. "Mom stop."
She removed her hand, and handed me the tube, with an I-was-just-trying-to-help-look. She disappeared back into the kitchen. Well thanks.
Mason applied more of the cream stuff on my hands, but he made sure it wouldn't hurt to much. I put the icepack over my burn, as Mason wiped the floor with the towels my mom had left. He brought them back into the kitchen, and I thought I heard them whispering.
"HEY WHY-OW-ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ME!?" I yelled clutching my throbbing head.
I need to remember that.
Mason walked back into the living room holding a steaming bowl in his hands. Great another thing to burn myself with.
He took the spoon placed in the bowel, and blew on it before placing it by my lips. Mmmm soup.
Now I really am an invalid. I can't even feed myself some soup. He's treating me like a baby. I rolled my eyes in annoyance. I don't like being a baby.
"Are you ok?" He asked taking another spoonful of soup and blowing on it.
I nodded, and took the soup in my mouth eagerly. I guess I never realized how hungry I was.
"Well aren't you two cute?"
I turned my head, as I swallowed the soup still in my mouth. Hunter was standing in the doorway leaning on the frame. I guess he had decided to come back.
I glared at him before clutching my head again in pain. Hunters gaze softened slightly, but he regained his cold stare one again.
"Your father has some big news for you," Hunter said moving out of the doorframe.
"Why don't you tell her Hunter?" My dad said waking inside.
Hunters gaze traveled to my dad, then to an annoyed Mason, until it landed on me. He shifted on his feet nervously.
"Well...you have the flu," he said looking around the room.
"The what?" I asked completely confused. Was this a joke?
"Influenza. Aka the flu."
I sat there bewildered at the words that Hunter had said. What the heck is influza-something?
"It's a common sickness in the human world, but it can get very serious, and because you are a whole different species all together we don't know any long term or short term affects. I think... I think it's my fault you have it. I was around some people who had the flu and I'm guessing I passed it to you. I'm... really sorry."
Well I didn't know Hunter could sound so scientific..ever. It it sounded like it was hard for him to say sorry. Typical.
"Why don't you tell her the best part," my dad said, smiling in an annoyed way.
Hunter sighed before looking towards Mason. I could tell he was dreading telling him something.
"We have to travel to the human world to get the medicine."
