Chapter 14: Dinner with Devils

"Jeez, Louise," Ryan Exclaimed.

"It's Thomas," The butler corrected him.

"I-I know, it's uh- sort of an expression Like I'm surprised how wickedly awesome this place looks," Ryan said looking around the castle-like interior finished with Marble floors which travels along the walls to the Ceiling. The floor had cool designs on it, when drunk, would look trippy, and the ceiling was decorated with beautiful engravings.

"You look pretty fine for a person who took two daggers in the back," Thomas said as they walked past several rooms with large Mahogany doors.

"I didn't take...Two daggers in the back? Who told you that?" Ryan asked defensively.

"Miss Cassie has been talking about her kidnapping since she got here, almost everyone here knows the story," Thomas said calmly.

Miss Cassie? Oh, the girl. The girl has much more respect than he could ever earn and he's a tad bit salty about that.

"Well, her version of the story is wrong,"

Thomas shrugged, "So you didn't get stabbed? She said you whined like a baby,"

That's totally wrong. "Well, she sucks at storytelling, She's messing up every single detail," Ryan didn't cry like a baby, Right?

Ryan stopped at the sight of a wonderful garden, 5 to 10 workers were working left and right trying to preserve the beauty of the garden, And they were doing a pretty good job at it. A fence separated the ground floor and the freshly watered green grass. A fountain stood mightily at the centre of the garden with different colours of flowers spotted around it, The bushes along the outer fence were neatly trimmed into uniform shapes. The flying varmints were singing a melodic tone in a nearby orchard.

"--Sir Vincent would be," Thomas pauses as he noticed Ryan was not by his side. "Mr Trahan?"

"Yea," Ryan said not having the heart to remove his gaze from the garden.

"Beautiful, innit?" Thomas said.

"Totally," Ryan said turning away from the garden, Now facing a big door. It has beautiful engravings on it, Extremely detailed swords with a dragon entangled on them and a while with the letter A carved into it.

"What's behind there?" Ryan asked curiously.

"Sir Vincent's prized possessions," Thomas said. "Mostly weapons," He added.

"How cool is this guy?" Ryan thought. A bit too loudly.

"Very cool," A soft voice rang out.

Ryan looked around to find the source of the voice but it wasn't necessary.

"Miss Cassie, Sir Sean," Thomas greeted facing the other direction.

A small girl wearing a soft puffy golden dress caught Ryan's attention, He almost missed seeing her, She was almost camouflaged with the gold-coloured Marble wall. A small boy wearing a white shirt and brown leather pants stood beside her leaning against the wall, He looked roughly the same age as 'Miss' Cassie. He had dark brown hair contrasting with 'Miss' Cassie's Blonde one.

"Hello, kids," Ryan Greeted them with an awkward wave.

The kids exchanged looks with each other and Thomas gave him a worrying frown. What has he gotten himself into?

"Kids?" 'Sir' Sean asked looking behind him. "Where?"

"You guys?" Ryan said pointing at them.

"We have names," Cassie, Sorry 'Miss' Cassie said, crossing her arms.

"Right," Ryan clapped his hands. These are the type of kids who are born sixteen. "Cassie and Sean," He said pointing to them respectively.

They looked at each other again and Thomas leaned down closer and whispered in Ryan's "you missed the Sir, Miss part," Thomas whispered as he straightened with a convincing cough.

Ryan chuckled thinking it was a joke, There's no way he's calling them Sir, Miss. They're like 12 years younger than him, his little ego won't allow him to. But he stopped laughing as he saw Cassie looking dead in his eyes.

Sean raised one of his eyebrows dramatically.

Ryan coughed, "There's no way I'm gonna do what you're expecting me to do, kids,"

"Is this the clown who saved you from the 'Monster'?" Sean asked unimpressed.

Monster? This girl over-exaggerated whatever happened back there.

"I'm afraid so," Cassie muttered.

"I thought he would look cool, Like dad," Sean commented, "but he has twigs for arms," Sean said as he looked at him up and down, "And very short,"

This is personal now, They could say anything about Ryan, Anything, But if they comment anything about Ryan's height it's game over.

"Says the guy who's shorter than a dollar-store teddy bear," Ryan said savagely, At least he thought he was savage.

They looked at each other and burst out laughing.

"He sucks at roasting too!" Sean said laughing his head off as he slapped Cassie's shoulder.

These kids are poking Ryan's little ego left and right.

"What's all this commotion about," A sharp husky voice called out, The same one which had the balls to threaten the kidnapper.

He looked young, In his mid-twenties? He looked very charming, he had a subtle goatee and his dark brown hair was neatly combed back, so that's where little devil #1 got his brown hair.

"Sir Vincent, Welcome back," Thomas greeted as he approached him.

"Thank you, Thomas," Vincent thanked him as he handed over the coat to him.

"Hey, dad," The two little devils said in unison.

"Cassie! Sean," Vincent exclaimed as he kissed their foreheads.

Aw. How sweet.

"Mr Trahan!" Vincent cheered as he laid his Sapphire blue eyes on him, his eyes told a story, one which Ryan can't understand. But his eyes have seen things.

"Mr Alfredo!" Ryan exclaimed trying to meet his excitement. "And please call me Ryan,"

"And you Can call me Vincent," He said extending his arm, Ryan shook his hand. "You saved my daughter, I'm pretty sure we can throw the formalities out of the window,"

If Ryan hadn't saved her, her father would have, Ryan's arm looked like a stick next to his. This man is strong.

"Let's get some dinner shall we? I'm hungry and work could get really tiring," Vincent said placing his hand on his stomach.

"Dinner is ready, Sir,"

"Let's go then," Vincent said leading them through a grand hall, it wasn't much different from the other hall, but this had chandeliers on the roofs and swords and shields attached to the wall.

He sure does love swords, he has a room full of precious ones and hangs one in nearly every corner.

Ryan is led to a dining room, The table was set up already, filled to the brim with delicious delicacies. This is surely the best food he would have for this whole 'challenge'.

The dining hall was huge, 3 servants were lined up beside the table,

Vincent motions them to sit down.

They started eating. Cassie and Sean started fighting over who gets the first serving of soup, Thomas had to intervene and had the servents pour their soup at exactly the same time.

These two were like two pods in a pea when insulting him now when it comes to food, they're fighting like two horses who were forced to share the same horse pen.

"So, What do you do, Ryan?" Vincent asked pouring a glass of water for Cassie.

Ryan gulped down the food in his mouth, who starts a conversation like that? He just sat down?

"I...have a restaurant," Ryan lied.

"That's nice," Vincent said.

Ryan nodded. Swallowing another bite of roasted thing. He didn't recognise any of these foods.

"I'm really grateful...For saving my daughter," Vincent said as he moved a piece of hair falling on her face, "I don't know what I'll do without her,"

"Me too," Sean beamed in, "Thank you for saving my sister," He said resuming eating.

Vincent gave him a smile and looked down at his plate. "Did the...authorities investigate you?" Clearly not interested, but he asked him anyway.

"Yea, They did," Ryan said recollecting the interrogation.

"Now they decided to investigate on the murderer," Vincent chuckled. "All it takes is for a Rich guy's daughter to get kidnapped," He scoffed.

"Well, you be fair, They didn't have a surviving victim or any eyewitnesses, So," Ryan shrugs.

"They didn't care earlier," Vincent paused. "They were not serious about it,"

This man has some serious beef with the police.

"What did they ask?" Vincent asked picking up some food.

"They asked me where the crime spot was...and the kidnapper's appearance," Ryan answered.

Vincent gave put a small laugh. "Appearance?" Vincent laughed as he placed some food in his mouth, "That piece of information would be useless in a case like this,"

"I wouldn't say it's useless, she could appear again, you know, they can catch her and-uh- find the 'Mafia gang'..."

"She won't be back, they'll find no trace of her never again,"

What.
