Chapter Twelve: Trapped Like a Caged Animal

Bela sat back, relieved that her plan had gone unhinged. In fact, she was damn happy that Sam and Dean had come to her. But from the looks of it, the two already figured out that they were nothing more than caged animals trapped in her own building. She glanced over at the pearl sitting on her desk, a smile appearing on her face. The pearl sparkled under the afternoon light, which shone through the window. How much more so would she be willing to go for true power? She'd risked everything to get what she wanted for years. Twenty-Four years it took her to plan everything around just separating Sam and Dean. This plan she was brewing could go bad or better, depending on her situation.

"Ahem," someone said, but Bela wasn't paying much attention, just planning out everything she could do. "Miss Talbot?" Bela looked up from the pearl to see Bruce standing in the room.

"What is it this time?" Bela asked. Bruce slowly approached Bela, who had her arms crossed.

"When shall we start this ritual?"

"Tonight, when the moon is high," Bruce remained quiet, seemingly unsure about what she was trying to say. "Midnight you idiot." Bela scoffed.

"Oh right," Bruce responded. "I knew that."

"Sure you did, Bruce?"

"Yes madam?"

"Do you know why I want to do this spell so badly? Do you know why I'm interested in the pearl?"

"I thought it was because of its power?"

"It is, but more than that, if you look into the pearl, it can show you things you can only dream of and the outcomes that come with it," she continued. "Look." Bela slid the pearl forward carefully. Bruce walked over and sat down, staring into the pearl. The pearl changed into a smokey scene. As the two stared into it, it showed that her plan was going to happen. However, there were consequences. In the scene, she saw Sam and Dean Winchester. They were in pain, that much she could tell. The closer that she looked, the more she noticed that something was wrong. Sam and Dean broke free from their bonds and attacked her. There was a full scuffle before she saw herself handcuffed and the pearl retrieved.

"Madam, I see the brothers working together to defeat you."

"I can see that you ninny!" Bela yelled. "But how is that possible? I planned this out so well!" rather than the pearl showing her anything else about the outcome, things changed and the pearl got dim only showing that there was nothing more than smoke. "NO! Bruce! We need to get the rest of this ritual ready! No way am I going to let some water log washouts ruin everything!"

Dean slammed his shoulder against the door, only to groan. He turned and surveyed the room. There was a queen sized bed with plain gray covers and gray pillow cases, there was a large window that was the length of the room. Stepping over to it, he looked out at the view of the city. Sure, it was beautiful with people going about their daily business, but that didn't justify the fact that they trapped him in the room once again, separated from his brother, whom he never thought was alive. He silently cursed himself, pissed that he didn't even know. He pulled out his phone and wished that he could have called Sam, but that wouldn't have been possible since he didn't even have the guy's phone number. Sam was right next to him. He saw Bruce shove him inside before pushing Dean in the room next door and locking it. Dean turned and across the room he saw a door that led somewhere. He ran over to it and tried to open it, but the door wouldn't budge.

"Dean?" he heard a voice say.

"Sam? Where are you?" Dean asked.

"On the other side of the door, you're shaking." Sam responded.

"What the hell are we going to do?" Dean asked.

"I was hoping you had a plan."

"Um..." Dean hesitated. Of course, he didn't have a plan. This wasn't even part of his plan to take the pearl back. "I'll let you know when I have an idea."

"How about first we get into the same room so we don't have to talk through a door?" Dean thought about it for a few minutes before glancing back at the door when suddenly an idea occurred to him.

"Step away from the door Sammy." Dean said. Dean backed away and ran at the door. He jumped up and kicked it, thinking that it could break the door down, but instead of the door breaking apart, Dean cried out in pain and held his foot. He fell back and rubbed it.

"Dean?" Sam said after he heard his brother scream on the other side. For a few minutes, Sam wasn't sure what his brother was doing, but from the way the door moved, he could only assume that Dean tried to kick the door down and it backfired on him. "Tell me you didn't kick the door down?"

"I tried," Dean said on the other side. "But it didn't work!"

"You know how strong these doors are, right?"

"The movies made it look easy!" Dean exclaimed. Sam scoffed and banged his head on the door. "What?!"

"Dean, this is real life. It's not the movies. What do you think we're in? Some sort of television show about two brothers hunting?"

"Um.. well.."

"How about you let me try?" Sam suggested. Dean went silent. On the other side of the door, Sam heard Dean move aside. Sam searched the room he was in. It had a sparkling chandelier and a grand piano. To the side, there was a large queen sized bed with golden covers. Sam turned and looked over at a desk that had messed up papers. A sudden thought occurred to him as he made his way over to the desk. He shuffled through it. Papers were falling onto the floor as slow as leaves falling from a tree until he finally came across two paperclips. Unfolding them, Sam formed both clips into a lock picking set. He walked back over to the door and picked at the lock until, eventually, he heard a soft click. "Got it!" Sam turned the knob and pushed the door open. Dean stood, surprised to see that Sam had found another way around it. "I'm surprised that being an art thief, you haven't figured this out yet."

"Don't judge me," Dean said. "I haven't exactly gone through and broken into a place with a lock pick. I usually go through the vents."

"Whatever, let's get out of here," Sam walked over to Dean's door, only to find that Dean wasn't following him. "Dude? What are you waiting for?" Dean said nothing, only walked over to Sam and wrapped him in a tight bear hug. Sam groaned and hugged Dean back. In the beginning, the two couldn't stand each other but now knowing that the other was always right around the corner. "Okay, okay, I miss you too, now can we get out of here and stop Bela?" Dean pulled away and nodded simply before the two picked the lock in order to escape from their brief imprisonment.
