Chapter Ten: You Can't Handle the Truth

Sam's breath caught. The sight of his picture was hard to believe. Half of him hoped that maybe there was some sort of logical explanation, but that wasn't the case. He couldn't find the words to describe everything he was looking at.

"Sam?" Sarah asked. "Hello?"

"Yeah, sorry," Sam responded. "But I'm just stunned. I didn't think that Dean's missing brother was me. You mean to tell me I've been missing for years?"

"Hard to say," Sarah answered. "It was hard to look through. Barely anyone had placed a missing person out, unless Dean somehow reported you missing," she continued. "But Sam, this is big news, your with your brother right now. You need to tell him."

"And how am I supposed to do that?"

"I don't know. You two are still searching for Bela, so my best assumption would be to tell him while you two are alone." Sam turned around and looked over at Dean, who was lost in thought. "I got to go now, Sam. I wish you good luck and please come back alive."

"Don't worry, I will," Sam hung up on Sarah and walked over to the impala. "I take it we aren't going back into the house?"

"No, we're not," Dean responded. "Get in the car. We're going to find the bitch ourselves." Dean got into the driver's seat and started the car. Sam sighed, still trying to think of some sort of way to tell Dean that he was the missing brother. Everything fit perfectly. For years, he had been thinking more about who he was and if he had any family. Granted the family he had raised him as their own, but to think that he had an older brother out there it might be his chance to get to know Dean better.

Sam Winchester was only six years old when he started asking questions about who he was and why he was different, he didn't have his mother's brown eyes or his father's black hair, he couldn't help but think about where he got his looks from or even where he got his personality, both his parents were laid back but he was constantly on the move.

"Mommy?" Sam said one day and sat at the table with his parents. "Daddy? Why am I different?"

"What do you mean, son?" his father asked.

"I mean, why don't I look like you?" Sam clarified.

"Son, we've told you the story a million times," his mother said reassuringly. "Someone left you in a stroller alone. We didn't know who your parents were, so we just adopted you."

"But I don't feel like I fit in anywhere, not even in this house."

"I'm sure when you're older, you'll understand." His father said.

Sam snapped out of his thoughts as Dean suddenly stopped at a red light. Nearly giving him a whiplash. Sam glanced over at Dean, or in this case, his missing brother, wondering what was going through his head.

"Dean?" Sam said. "If you don't mind me asking, why are you so determined to look for your brother?"

"Why are you so determined to find your brother?" Sam asked. Dean paused. He didn't want to answer questions his partner had. It hurt too much and the man just kept pushing as if something like that would push him to a point that he was going to break.

"Why do you want to know?"

"Because there are things that need to be said."

"What makes you think I'd tell you?"

"What if I told you that your brother's been with you all along?" Sam asked.

"Impossible. I don't even know if he's alive."

"Oh, I can reassure you he is most definitely alive." Dean went silent. He glanced over at Sam, who went silent as well, and stared out the window. The light turned green, and the two were off yet again. Most of the drive into town was silent, at least until they arrived at a parking garage passing through the city, which was alive in the middle of the day. People were going through about their daily business. Dean couldn't handle the silence much longer and parked his car before turning toward Sam.

"What's with you?" Dean asked. "What are you trying to say about my brother?"

"I'm saying that your brother is with you right now," Sam responded, but Dean just looked at him, dumbstruck. "Dean, when I stepped away, I spoke to my partner, asking her if she could do a check on your brother and any missing persons reported, when you and I walked out of your house, Sarah called me back," he continued. "She discovered that your missing brother was alive and well. It's me. I'm your brother."
