"Thank you...Dad."
"See. Was that so hard to say to your dear old father?", Chairman Wang teased, his light-hearted tone suggesting that he was in a good mood since his daughter had decided to stay over at the family mansion temporarily.
Song Chin-Hae chuckled, and replied, "Have you met Ming Yue? She can be pretty stubborn when she wants to be."
"But you're right-with all the things going on right now, and my apartment no longer available...crashing at the family home was the right choice."
Could Ming Yue believe the words coming out of her mouth?
No. But what choice did she have when the entire Wang family, and probably the whole jianghu at this point, was probably up-in-arms over what she did.
Apparently, saying no to an arranged marriage was not acceptable in that world.
Who knew?
Aish.
The drama was just messing with her at this point.
She had even considered not acting in My Fair Lady anymore, but if Xiao Jun could keep it professional, then so could she!
Besides, she was not missing out on chance to be in a musical due to no man!
DING-DONG rang the doorbell at their front entrance.
"I'll get it!", Song Chin-Hae barked, bee-lining towards the door before halting at the intercom.
"Who goes there?", he growled, leaving hairs on edge for the male on the other line.
"Ugh...it's Li Jun. I'm here to apologize for my family's actions last night," the second male lead muttered nervously.
Placing his hand over the intercom, the male lead snapped, "Tell me one reason I shouldn't beat his butt up right now."
"Because you are the better man," Wang Ming Yue countered. Hoping he would fall for it.
Definitely not thinking about Li Jun's kissing abilities. Nope.
"True."
Letting him in, the pair surrounded him with glares, causing Li Jun to feel very uncomfortable.
"I would have brought flowers, but they were misplaced...and I figured it would send the wrong message," he explained, taking off his dark sunglasses as he did so.
The couple continued staring at him, until the celebrity slipped off his shoes and turned his back to the wall.
Maybe this had been a bad idea...
"OK."
"But Ming Yue...", pleaded Chin-Hae.
"He hasn't done anything wrong-we're just placing all the blame on him unnecessarily," she replied.
As Li Jun attempted to say something in his defense, an elderly woman busted in through the back window and made her way towards the trio.
"CHIN-HAE!", she cried as she wrapped her arms around the male lead.
"GRANDMA!", he called out to Ming Yue's surprise.
"Grandma? But she's not Grandma Song...", she mumbled.
"Agh, I remember Grandma Song, always giving us treats when we behaved nicely," Chin-hae recalled, sighing as the fond memories came back to him.
The old lady spit in her direction, saying, "Grandma Song? She may have been the better cook, but she was such a...that woman, I swear she thought our family needed the money and that's why we married in, as if! We may be poor but we have our pride! But we can't speak ill of the dead so I'll keep my thoughts to myself."
Song Chin-Hae saw her perplexed look, and divulged that, "Grandma Song is my mom's mom, Grandma Wu is my dad's mom. I'm sure you must have met Grandma Wu at some point but..."
"Wait a minute!", she said. Observing the grandma closely, she realized that the lady that lay before her was the same exact fortuneteller who was giving her advice!
What a coincidence, right?
"Grandma Wu!", she exclaimed upon recognizing her face without shaman makeup.
"Don't you Grandma Wu me! You've broken all the rules we set, and you even kissed Li Jun!"
Three responses rang out at once, all very different reactions to what she had just said.
"How did you?" Wang Ming Yue
"You kissed who?" Song Chin-Hae
"Um...that was my bad." Li Jun
"Wait what?", Wang Ming Yue glanced over to a very apologetic Li Jun.
"I was going to also say sorry for that because you probably didn't want me kissing you, and for any of the other rude comments I may have done...", he whispered.
Song Chin-hae interrupted him, inquiring, "When did you kiss Li Jun is what I wanna know. Was it before or after...,"
"Ugh...you know the fire?", she started.
"Never mind that!", Grandma Wu yelled. "What are we going to do about the prophecy now that you've broken the seal?"
"What seal?", Song Chin-hae. "Wait that seal? But that's...not been done for hundreds of years!"
"What am I missing now? Chin-hae!", she hollered.
"Not his fault, dear. He didn't know. Anyways, just forget I said anything and live your life, it's not like..."
"MAYDAY! MAYDAY! THE JIANGHU IS IN AN UPROAR!", shrieked a cousin of the Wang family.
Chairman Wang ran back into the hallway and made all of the people present sit down to debrief on the situation.
"Alright, how bad is the..."
"Situation? Well," said the distant cousin. "The arranged marriage is off so...people are upset about that, of course."
"But we promised them the Song-Wang collaboration!"
"Yes, and the wedding is in three months, they know that."
The bride and groom glanced at each other with worried faces. Shouldn't they have known about their wedding date beforehand?
"That's not the bad news though."
"Then get out with it!"
Taking a deep breath, he exhaled, "The Wang family are indignant, there's been a burglary at the Song premises and...information has spread about the Pearl's whereabouts..."
"My house? They've broken into my family's house!", shouted the second male lead.
"Sit down," ordered Grandma Wu, hauling his body down towards his chair,
Wiping sweat off his forehead, Chairman Wang inquired, "And the Pearl? How much do they know?"
"It's been leaked that the Pearl is in our possession...and that it's inside your daughter."
"What?", Li Jun stammered.
"I see, so the prophecy has not been stopped," she marveled.
Turning, Wang Ming Yue's father proclaimed, "The prophecy you told, lady! And look at how it turned out!"
"I just have one question-was my grandma the cause of the arranged marriage?", Song Chin-hae asked.
"Yes, and the end of it," Grandma Wu replied.
"Just one question...Grandma Wu...what does the Pearl that everyone fears...or wants so much have to do with me?"
"You are the Pearl...or rather the Pearl is inside you."
23. Female lead is destined for greatness and is a magical being.
"Just peachy."
