Trope 4

Author's note: Thanks for adding it to your reading list! Enjoy! (I wouldn't classify it as a full-on comedy although it has its comedic moments, but how could you tell I try to keep it generally light-hearted? *smiles*)

"You kissed me."

"No, I didn't," Wang Ming Yue asserted as she tried to pass him in the hallway.

It had been easy to avoid in the days following the fire as the whole cast and crew had been given several days of break with orders to return to practice albeit in a different location this time.

Hebei Provincial Opera Theater.

Knowing the opera performers were probably having fun at their expense, she turned the corner and ran into the person she had been trying to ignore on her first official day of rehearsal.

"But you did, you can't deny that," the HongXing known as Little John declared.

Snorting, Wang Ming Yue paused in the hallway, and proceeded to lecture him.

"I didn't kiss you-you must have hit your head or something during the fire. Memory loss can happen due to a multitude of causes, not including falling from a height like you had to do when the fire escape collapsed while you were placing the guy-in-a-wheelchair down. How is he by the way?"

"He's fine," the star chalantly replied. "That's not important here. You kissed me, and I have yet to know why."

"I don't know you aren't at the hospital and got to come back today, but you don't see me whining about that, do you?"

Li Jun protested. "I have no injuries. You're the one who had a concussion...maybe that's it! You don't remember because you have memory loss instead! Have you had any hypnosis done lately?

Getting chills from his line of questioning, the female lead of My Fair Lady turned to face him, saying, "Look sweetie. I know that you have kissed multiple people in your lifetime so your lips are not virgin-whether it be through music videos, movies, dramas...several ladies have puckered up and felt up those...things," she pointed out.

"So?"

"What I am trying to say is...", she started. Changing her tactic, she continued, "I am not at fault for your erotic fantasies regarding me. Although I should be flattered, you are not Xu Feng from Ashes of Love." Her eyes now glowing with nostalgia, "Now there was a male lead who was a good guy...not that Run Yu wasn't good. Xu Feng made me wonder how he could be the God of War, but the Mortal Realm...whew! Still, my poor Run Yu, they made him go psychotic. He did suffer an ordeal, but Xu Feng was practically fine after all that. At the end of the day, all my second male lead needs is love!", she ranted while hugging her chest tightly.

Glancing around the hallway, Li Jun made sure that no one had heard her raving like a maniac.

Now that could tarnish a reputation.

Sighing, he quipped, "I don't know why you're pretending it didn't happen, but I am 100% sure it did. That-and the giant ball of light that appeared in the sky that nobody else saw...now that was..."

"Excuse me?" Wang Ming Yue was startled to hear someone else had seen the vision of golden light in the sky. Other people she had told had dismissed it as simple lightning, and she had been afraid to tell the doctors at the hospital lest they make her stay more than a few hours.

The CAT-SCAN showed there was nothing wrong in her brain.

At least she wasn't going completely crazy.

"Honestly, the past few days...it's like I'm living in one of the dramas I star in. But that's insane, right?", he said, chuckling nervously before bottling up all his fear.

No one could ever see his emotions leak through.

In fact, maybe chuckling had been a bit too much. What had happened to his sense of stoicism?

He didn't know what it was about this girl, but she seemed to bring parts of him out that he'd rather stay buried.

Li Jun wasn't sure if he could handle that yet.

However, he was determined to get answers out of her, no matter what it took.

Hearing her alarm ringing, Wang Ming Yue turned to go, but was pulled into a closet by the popular celebrity.

"Shush!", he said as a swarm of paparazzi scouted the passageway looking for traces of the popular Chinese actor/model/singer/rapper.

Scared that they would discover him, it took a moment for him to realize he had dragged her in with him as well in the process.

"This is sexual harassment!", she whispered, attempting to push him off with all her strength.

Making the mistake to glance down, he saw her face under his and started to reach...

Gulping, he shoved her off him as soon as he could, waited for a chance to flee and took it, bolting out of there like his pants were on fire.

That was a close one, he thought.

Angry at a certain rich jerk again, she sprinted to the bus stop, went home, changed her clothes into evening-wear, and headed off towards her scheduled family dinner.

Hopefully, nothing would go wrong now.

Presenting herself to the door, she realized that the only way out of arranged marriage is what Grandma Wu had prescribed to her the day before, showing up with another male in hand.

Readying herself, she dialed the number for her best friend, and hoped he would pick up the call.

"Wei?"

"Where are you?"

"Hebei, why?"

"Could you come to my family's hotel here? There's a family dinner...and they're trying to get me to meet...my arranged fiancée."

With no hesitation, her best friend remarked, "Say no more, I'm on my way."

Within a few minutes, he showed up in a tuxedo, looking dashing as always.

Taking her hand in his, he smiled and commented, "You've gotten more beautiful since I last saw you."

"Stop it, you make me blush," she teased. Song Chin-hae was the only man who could flirt with her like that, and she not mind at all.

"It's been a while since you last called me. What's been going on recently?", he asked nonchalantly as they strolled into a fancy restaurant.

"I got casted into a musical," she explained.

"Ooo...finally using your musical talents, I see. I knew you could do it."

"Sure you did, Mr. I-Work-A-Low-Level-Job-Even-Though-I'm-A-Chaebol," she taunted.

"Hey! You know I want independence as much of you...but I wanna earn my place at the table, you know?"

Hearing champagne glasses being clinked together, she figured it was time for toasts, and along with her companion, went into the main reception hall.

"We are all here for one very special occasion-the wedding of my dear niece," the Chairman of Misung corporation started. "Let me introduce all of you to her right now..."

Feeling as if she was levitating towards her doom, only the securing press of Chin-hae's hand kept her from lifting up into the air and leaving this place.

"And her fiancée," he started before seeing Chin-hae at her side.

"Yes, I am," he stated. "And I would like to say to all those here present that my family-the Song family and our perspective companies based in Korea-are very honored to pledge an alliance with the Wang family."

"What?", guests cried out in shock at the announcement.

"I have loved her for a very long time-since childhood really, and am prepared to compensate all those who were bent on an alliance with the Li family," he commented.

"You're overdoing it," she murmured next to him.

"I'm telling the truth," he whispered back to her shock.

For too long, she had been keeping a secret of her own, afraid to let the world know lest it dash her dreams upon a stone.

One of them, the most important one, had come true tonight.

Song Chin-hae loved her back.

Grinning at the thought that her childhood sweetheart loved her, she basked in the disapproving glances from the Wang family members, and let good thoughts encompass her as her own father dragged her away from the shocked crowd.

Bracing for a scolding, she was surprised to see him hug her tightly.

"My daughter, you did well," he muttered.

"What?"

"Sorry I came late," Song Chin-hae said as he shook hands with her father.

"It's alright. I'm glad you came before the engagement ceremony was completed."

"What's going on here?", she yelled.

Facing her directly, Chin-hae explained that he was already on his way to help her fake a relationship before she called him, and that he knew she didn't feel the same way for him, but God Almighty help him if he didn't save her...

Kissing him so that he would shut up, she let her lips do all the talking for once.

"Wow," he remarked, ruffling his hair when they were done.

"Not so fast," quipped an angry mother-in-law character.

High heels clicking against the tile floor, she came within close proximity of the couple, and hissed.

"You dare refuse my son-heir to the Li family fortune to be with...a member of the disrepute Song family from Korea?", she queried.

"Yes."

"Son, come here. I would like to introduce you to the woman you have been engaged to...since birth."

As footsteps made it across the floor, Wang Ming Yue prayed that God Almighty have mercy on her this time.

Please, please not be who she thinks it is.

"Pull off your sunglasses! We're inside for goodness sake!", she voiced in English.

Standing before her there lay the looming figure of a huge Chinese star.

Xiao Jun.

She wasn't the only one in that party that swore out loud that night.

"You've got to be kidding me."
