Judging Criteria

Participants, this is for you to see if your book has what it takes, as well as make any necessary revisions. Judges, this is for you to see what you're signing up for!

A NOTE TO JUDGES

We will be accepting 2 judges for each genre. A rubric will be provided to guide you in judging each book. Both judges for each genre will judge all the entries and PM their results to this account. From that, we will determine the winners. Once the genre has filled up, we will let you know, and the judging will commence accordingly. You can check the participant entry list in this book for your genre if you're having trouble finding the entries.

SUBCATEGORIES

 1. BEST BOOK (/10)

This is the overall most enjoyable read. Was it original? Was the concept and execution of the plot gripping? Was the book well-structured?

Does the prose read like magic? Does the writer describe things with such vividness that it's as if you are there? Do they have a way with words?

Spelling and grammar are crucial for an enjoyable read. Errors are distracting, and can pull you out of the story. How many of these errors were present? Did it affect the smooth reading of the book?

Which book was the whole package?

2. BEST CHARACTERS (/10)

Who doesn't love a hero? What about our leading lady? And where would we be without the sarcastic sidekick, or reliable friend?

This one is for the book with the best characters in the genre.

Are they likable and well-written? Are they strong characters? Did they leave an impression on you?

3. BEST SHIP (OR RELATIONSHIP) (/10)

There is one thing that characters have to have, and that is chemistry!

What is the first ship name that comes to mind? Which couple was so irresistibly cute that they had you rooting for them all the way?

For the books that aren't romance-heavy, did you root for the central relationship (platonic or otherwise)? It can be a friendship or a family relationship.

Was it realistic and enjoyable?

4. BEST GRAPHICS (/10)

Let's be honest, most readers judge books by their covers! Is the cover of the book eye-catching? Did the author put in extra effort, by adding in banners and chapter breaks? This award is for the book, but the graphic designer will get credit (whether or not they were the author).

5. CROWD FAVOURITE (/10)

One of the most important things about being a writer is how you interact with supporters of your work. Which work resonated with readers? Which writer loves engaging with their readers?

RUBRIC

Please refer to this when judging. There will be six winners—the highest score in each category wins that category in the genre, and the book with the highest score out of 50 is the overall winner for that genre.
