Origin Chapter A: Blue's Semblance
As the students got ready for bed, Ozpin was sorting some files in his office, with a cup of magic coffee in his hand. Glynda was also present as she talked about the new batch of students that have arrived.
Glynda: Professor, what are your thoughts on the teams? Because I'm sceptical of the leaders
Ozpin: The leaders? How come?
Glynda: While Miss Rose has shown great leadership skills out there, she is still the youngest by two years.
Ozpin: That's understandable, but it will work out in the end
Glynda: I hope so, that team shows promise, but what about Mr Arc? I don't want to get into details because....well, I'm sure you understand my frustrations
Ozpin: I do, but in the words of our trusty Peacekeeper, "Trust The Process".
Glynda: [Sighs] I always wanted to go against those words, but he magically makes it work that I have to believe in him whenever he does say it.
Ozpin:...Indeed....seeing them arrive here, it reminds me of the first time when Blue had started his training
Glynda: It still feels like yesterday, he wasn't sure at first but grew into it. Then, he unlocked his semblance.
Ozpin: Good evening, Blue. Thank you for joining me. Please, have a seat.
Blue: Thank you, Professor....umm, what do you need me for?
Ozpin: Well, as you know, I have allowed you to stay in Beacon considering the situation. But I've also been observing your progress closely, and I believe it's time we discuss your future, specifically, your potential role as the Peacekeeper of Beacon and Vale.
Blue: The Peacekeeper? I....I don't know what to say. Are you sure? I-I don't even have fighting experience!
Ozpin: That is true, but I have confidence in your abilities. You've shown exceptional heart and courage to help the students here despite being a child and more importantly, a deep sense of justice and empathy when facing bullies, traits essential for a Peacekeeper.
Blue: Thank you, Professor. But what do I do when I'm a Peacekeeper?
Ozpin: As Peacekeeper, your duty would be to maintain harmony within Beacon, and in the near future, Vale. Mediate conflicts, and protecting the citizens from any threats, be they Grimm or otherwise. It's a role that requires strength, wisdom, and a steady hand.
Blue: I-I see...I don't mind it, but I might need some help. What do I need to do to prepare?
Ozpin: Your training will be multifaceted. Combat skills are essential, of course, but you will also need to hone your diplomatic abilities and understanding of the intricate social dynamics within Vale. We will also delve deeper into strategic planning and leadership.
Blue: U-Ummm.....say what now?
Ozpin: Haha, do not worry, I have no doubt that you will be fine, Blue, I'll be helping you out. Remember, you are not alone in this journey.
Blue: Thank you, Professor. I'll do my best to live up to this role and make you proud!
Ozpin: You already do, Blue, after what happened, you're still standing. Keep your heart and mind open, and always strive to understand those around you. The role of Peacekeeper is as much about compassion as it is about strength.
Blue: I'll remember that. I won't let you down.
Ozpin: I know you won't. Now, let's begin your training with a few combat drills. His will be crucial for your role as Peacekeeper.
Blue: I'm ready, Professor. Let's get started!
For the first 3 to 4 years, Blue would be in the Training Room at Beacon Academy every day, growing as a person. The other professors would help with his other education such as enforcement laws as he will need to know about them fir the future.
But with Ozpin, he would watch over his combat skills. Currently, he was standing near a combat dummy designed to resemble an Ursa.
Blue stands ready with a wooden sword that was designed to be as heavy as an actual one.
Ozpin: Good afternoon, Blue. I trust you're ready for today's training session?
Blue: Yes, Professor. What are we doing today?
Ozpin: Today, we'll be focusing on your combat skills against an Ursa. As you know, Ursa are known for their brute strength and formidable defense. Your goal is to incapacitate the dummy efficiently. Are you familiar with their weak points?
Blue: Yes, sir. The eyes and the underbelly are particularly vulnerable, but they require precision to hit.....I learnt that from Professor Port
Ozpin: He does know a thing or two about weaknesses, you are correct. Precision and strategy are key. Remember, a direct confrontation with an Ursa is often unwise. Utilise your agility and keep moving. Now, begin.
Blue gets ready with his heavy, wooden sword in his hands. He dashes towards the Ursa dummy, aiming a series of quick strikes at its joints.
Ozpin: Good start, Blue. However, your movements need to be more fluid. Anticipate the Ursa's attacks and react accordingly. Remember, they aren't just slow brutes, they can be surprisingly quick.
Blue: T-This sword is heavy!
Ozpin: I know, which is why I will assess how you are now. Then we will fix that with more practice. Now begin!
Blue adjusts his stance and starts to circle the dummy, delivering precise strikes aimed at its weak points. Despite the sword he was wielding to be heavy, he still goes for a feint attack at the dummy’s shoulder, then quickly pivots to strike the underbelly.
His shoulders were in pain, but knew that he couldn't show any weakness.
Ozpin: Much better. Your feint was effective, but don’t neglect your defense. An Ursa won’t give you a second chance if you expose yourself.
Blue: Understood, Professor. I'll keep my guard up!
Blue continues his assault, mixing defensive maneuvers with offensive strikes. Then when the sword got too heavy, he dropped it and went straight for hand to hand combat.
Ozpin: Excellent use of your quick thinking Blue. Speed is one of your greatest assets, so use it to outmaneuver your opponent and strike where they least expect it. Like when you dropped your sword and switched to your hands.
Blue: Thank you, Professor. I’ll keep practising!
Ozpin: Practice is vital, but so is understanding your enemy. Always study the creatures of Grimm and their behaviors. Knowledge can be as powerful as your weapon.
Blue: I'll keep that in mind. Thank you for the guidance, Professor.
Ozpin: You're welcome, Blue. Continue honing your skills. Remember, each training session brings you one step closer to being prepared for the real threats out there. Dismissed.
Blue nods, his determination renewed. As he walks away, Ozpin watches, a hint of a smile on his face.
Ozpin: You’re doing well, Blue. Keep pushing forward.

[One Week Later]
Ozpin: Blue, I believe it's time to help you with your strength.
Blue: Okay! I'm ready!
Ozpin: Good, now I want you to practice your sword swings. Precise, controlled, and powerful.
Blue: With the same heavy sword?
Ozpin: With the same heavy sword, ready?
Blue: Yes, boss!
Ozpin: Begin!
Blue takes a deep breath and swings his sword in one swift motion, aiming for the exact same spot each time. It wasn't too heavy like last time, as he had gotten used to its weight, but soon enough it will start to hurt.
But it will all be worth it....especially in the long run when Blue has to face different types of threats. The room fills with the rhythmic sound of his wooden blade cutting through the air.
Ozpin: Again.
Blue swings his sword, maintaining his form and focus.
Ozpin: Again.
The repetition continues, each swing deliberate and forceful.
Ozpin: Again.
Blue's arms start to tire, but he keeps his focus, pushing through the fatigue.
Ozpin: Again.
Sweat beads on Blue's forehead, but he doesn't falter. The exercise continues, each command from Ozpin met with a determined swing.
Ozpin: Again!
Blue's breathing becomes heavier, but his resolve is unwavering, Ozpin believes in him and so he will do his best to reach the heights that he wants him to achieve.
Ozpin: Again!
The cycle repeats until Blue has swung his sword for two hours, his muscles burning but his spirit unbroken.
Ozpin: And stop. Well done, Blue. Your perseverance is commendable. Remember, it’s not just about strength, but also about maintaining control and consistency under pressure.
Blue: Thank you, Professor. I’ll keep working on it.
Ozpin: Good. Take a moment to rest and hydrate. Then we’ll continue with the next part of your training.
Blue nods, his determination renewed. As he walks away to get some water, Ozpin watches, a hint of another smile on his face.
Ozpin: Just a bit more Blue....

[1 Year Later]
Blue's Age: 13
In the midst of a grueling training session at Beacon Academy, the clash of weapons and the fervent shouts of combatants echoed through the vast training hall.
The room was a flurry of movement, where students honed their skills under the watchful eyes of their instructors.
Amidst the chaos, Blue found himself pushed to his limits. He had been sparring with his friends, each one testing their abilities and pushing each other to improve.
Blue wielded a new sword, an actual steel one, but despite his skill, he struggled to keep up with the relentless pace of the private session. His mind raced, desperately trying to anticipate his opponents’ moves, but they were always one step ahead.
The friend that Blue was training with, a tall girl named Lyra with fiery red hair and a spear that could transform into a sword. She moved like a blur, launched a swift series of jabs.
Blue blocked the first strike, deflected the second, but the third found its mark, grazing his side and knocking him back.
Lyra: Come on, Blue! Focus!
Lyra shouted, her voice echoing with both encouragement and frustration. Blue gritted his teeth, feeling the sting of the hit. He tightened his grip on his weapons, eyes narrowing with determination.
He knew he had potential, he just needed to unlock it, and this may be the way to do it.
Glynda and Ozpin had often spoken of semblances, unique abilities that were manifestations of a person’s very soul. He had yet to discover his, and in this moment, he yearned for that breakthrough.
He needed it if he was going to be the Peacekeeper.
As Lyra came at him again, time seemed to stretch, each second dragging on as if through molasses. He saw every detail: the beads of sweat on Lyra’s brow, the precise angle of her spear, the subtle shift in her stance.
His heart pounded in his chest, a steady, resonant drumbeat that seemed to echo through the frozen moment.
And then, something clicked.
It was as if a switch had been flipped in his mind. The world around him slowed to a crawl, each movement traced with an almost ethereal clarity. He could see the arc of Lyra’s spear, could feel the air displaced by its passage.
Blue: W-What is happening? Is this....my real power?
With newfound ease, he sidestepped the attack, bringing his sword up to deflect the next strike, moving with an almost supernatural grace. Lyra’s eyes widened in shock as her attacks were effortlessly parried.
Lyra: What…?
Blue didn’t have time to respond. As the world began to speed up again, he felt an exhilarating rush, his senses heightened and his reflexes sharpened.
He moved in a blur, closing the distance between them and slashing his sword lightly against Lyra’s shoulder, signaling a decisive hit.
The room fell silent as the rest of Lyra's team, ALMS turned to witness the unexpected turn of events. Lyra lowered her spear, her expression a mix of surprise and admiration.
Lyra: You....I think you unlocked your semblance
Blue took a step back, his heart still racing but his mind clear.
Blue: I think I did, i-it looked like I was...able to slow down time....at least for a few seconds.
Lyra: That's....amazing!
Sage: Well done, Blue!
Mason: That's kinda broken!
Aaron: Nice work, Little Blue. It's too bad you aren't a student, I wouldn't mind replacing you with Mason
Mason: Hey! I'm your partner! Shut the hell up!
Team ALMS....Blue's first few friends.
They were a fine but chaotic group, especially with Mason being an idiot and Lyra being a girl who demands the best out of you in a fight.
But it becomes balanced with the calm and collected Leader in Aaron and the kind but slightly timid girl, Sage.
Sage was Blue's best friend when it came to the group, because she was kind like him, and understood him better than anyone else. She often would give him pieces of wisdom, since she was older than him, being 17 like the rest of her team.
Someone who was also present, was Professor Goodwitch, who stepped forward, her stern face softening with a rare hint of a smile.
Glynda: Impressive, Mr Light. You’ve discovered a powerful semblance. With training, you can learn to control and extend its effects. This could be a game-changer for you, especially with what Professor Ozpin wants from you
Blue nodded, feeling a surge of confidence he had never experienced before. He glanced around at his friends, seeing admiration and excitement in their eyes.
For the first time, he felt truly in sync with his potential, ready to embrace the challenges ahead. And when it was time to become the Peacekeeper of Beacon and then Vale....he will be ready.
As he readied himself for another round, the world seemed a little less daunting, and his future a lot more promising.

Later that day, Blue found himself standing in the quiet, dimly lit office of Professor Ozpin. The walls were lined with ancient tomes and artifacts, casting an aura of wisdom and mystery.
Blue had been summoned along with Professor Goodwitch to discuss his newly discovered semblance. Ozpin sat behind his desk, fingers steepled and eyes keenly observing Blue.
Glynda stood beside him, her expression composed and her gaze equally intense. Blue shifted nervously on his feet, feeling the weight of their scrutiny.
Ozpin: Blue....Professor Goodwitch informed me of your semblance. This is a significant development. Could you demonstrate it for us?
Blue: Yes, Professor
He took a deep breath, focusing on the sensation he had felt earlier in the training hall. He reached within himself, finding that switch he had flipped before.
The world around him began to slow, the ticking of the clock on the wall stretching into a prolonged beat. For the next ten seconds, Blue moved through the room with deliberate, exaggerated motions, aware of every minute detail.
He picked up a book from Ozpin’s desk, examined it briefly, then placed it back down with care. As the semblance’s effect faded, the world resumed its normal pace, and Blue found himself breathing heavily.
Ozpin raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed as he was able to see Blue move. Of course, he couldn't react as fast Blue, but he was able to take note of his quick movements.
Ozpin: Now that's fascinating. You are able to manipulate the flow of time, albeit for a short duration. Ten seconds, was it?
Blue nodded, still catching his breath.
Blue: Yes, Professor. I can only do it for about ten seconds, and it takes a lot out of me. But I think I can improve with practice, like alter the slowness of time
Ozpin: So you are able to slow down time for a bit, but with practice, you think you can make it even slower?
Blue: I think so, back when I did it for the first time, it definitely felt like it was slower
Glynda: That is an extraordinary semblance, Blue. With proper training, you could reduce the strain it places on you. Have you noticed any other limitations or side effects?
Blue: Hmmm....it’s exhausting, like running a lot. I also have to concentrate really hard, or it doesn’t work at all. And it’s only my perception that slows down, everything and everyone else keeps moving at the same speed but they won't realise that I'm going to see everything they do
Ozpin: I think I understand, if someone were to grab an automatic rifle and empty the entire magazine on you. You can stop time and avoid it, but to the shooter, it seems like you have super speed
Blue: Yeah! It's like that!
Ozpin: Now that's remarkable. This semblance could be invaluable, both in combat and in other situations requiring quick thinking and rapid response. We will ensure you receive the necessary training to develop and control it. For now, I advise you to use it sparingly, until you build up your endurance.
Blue: Thank you, Professor Ozpin. I’ll do my best
Ozpin: I have no doubt of that, Blue. You have shown remarkable potential for the last few years. Remember, semblances are an extension of who we are. The better you understand yourself, the stronger your semblance will become.
Glynda places a hand on Blue’s shoulder, her demeanor softening.
Glynda: You’ve made a great stride today. Keep up the hard work, and you will go far.
Blue nodded, determination and excitement burning in his eyes.
Blue: I will, Professor. Thank you!
As he left the office, Blue felt a renewed sense of purpose. He had taken the first step on a path that promised to be as challenging as it was rewarding.
With the support of his instructors and the strength of his semblance, he knew he could face whatever lay ahead.

[Present Day]
Glynda: Good times they were
Ozpin: Indeed, now our Peacekeeper is able to do what we believed he could
Glynda: He can change the "pitch" of time when he slows it, to either slow, or really slow.
Ozpin: He isn't able to stop time completely but that's fine, he doesn't get tired anymore from doing it unless he uses it too much in one day.
Glynda: Luckily, we don't have to see that since he is a really quick thinker, even if he only has the 10 seconds still
Ozpin: Indeed.....why don't you get some sleep, Glynda?
Glynda: I will, what about you?
Ozpin: I'll be fine for a few more minutes
Glynda: Right
Ozpin: Oh, and can you tell our Peacekeeper to get some rest? I believe he is playing sentry again
Glynda: [Sighs] That boy.....
Glynda leaves the office as Ozpin smiles to himself before looking out the window and at the shattered moon.
Ozpin: You've come so far, Blue. And we will need you more than ever
