Chapter 2

You absently wiped down a table inside, when their voices met your ears. The first voice you heard was somewhat rough, "I'm beat. Let's take a break here for a bit." The second voice was smooth and deep, "Fine..." The half-curtain that hung in the doorway lifted and the two men walked in, taking a seat near the door, keeping their hats on. You grit your teeth, then forced a smile and walked over. "Good evening gentlemen. Would the two of you mind taking your hats off? Granny's feels that it's only polite." They both hesitated. Yup, definitely rouge's. They didn't move to remove their hats and you placed a hand on your hip, smiling brightly, "You can either remove those hats, or you can remove yourselves from our shop. Rules are rules." You indicated the plaque near the door that had a list of rules for customers to follow.

The taller man scoffed, "Do you have any idea who you're talking to? We could easily destroy this place." Your smile turned hard and your eyes slid open, the colour changing to a light silver, you're aura changing to show a glimpse of your own power, "I'd like to see you try it. You aren't the only rouge's we get here, and I assure you, you won't be the last. Now please follow the rules, and we'll get along just fine."

The taller man began to turn to face you fully, looking ready to fight, but the shorter man stopped him, "That's enough Kisame. Don't make a fool of yourself by picking fights over something so trivial." He reached up and pulled his hat off, setting it on the table. You smiled at him then turned back to the taller man, raising an eyebrow. He sighed and pulled his hat off harshly, slamming it onto the table. The shorter man was very handsome, but something about him had you on edge. The taller man would be considered to be strange looking anywhere else, but you'd seen so many odd looking people here, that you didn't even bat an eye at his shark-like appearance.

Your smiled turned bright again, your eyes turning back to normal colour, and you held up your notepad, "Thank you very much. You both look much better without the hats. Now what can I get you? We can make just about anything here. Our specialties are rice balls, grilled trout and dango." The taller man, who had started grinning at your compliment on both of their looks, wasted no time in his order, "I want meat. And oolong tea." You wrote down the tea order, "What type of meat? Right now we have chicken, trout, salmon, pork and steak." From the corner of your eye you saw a mild look of disgust cross the shorter man's face when you said steak. The tall, blue man shot a look of mischief at his companion, "I'll get the steak. Blue rare." The shorter man narrowed his eyes. You wrote down the order and turned to the other man, "And what can I get for you?" His stared at you for a moment. He remained silent for several moments and you raised an eyebrow. He finally spoke, "Rice balls with seaweed and a plate of dango. And some sweet green tea." You wrote the order down, "Alright. I'll be back in a jiffy."

You went over to the kitchen and gave Granny the order through the order window. When you got the part of the blue rare steak she shouted, "BLUE RARE?! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH HIM?! I MAY AS WELL JUST GIVE IT TO HIM RAW!"(I personally have nothing against anyone that likes their steaks like this, it's just for humor) You flinched at her shouting, knowing full well that the customers could hear her, "Oba-san! Shh, the customer will hear you." "I DON'T GIVE A DAMN IF THEY HEAR ME! IN FACT, I HOPE THEY HEAR ME! IT'S AN INSULT TO STEAKS EVERYWHERE!" You glanced over at the table with the customers and the blue man was looking unhappy again. You pressed your face to the counter, "For crying out loud! Oba-san! Just because you don't like it that way doesn't mean that no one does. Just pretend it's a filet mignon! Now cook it and shut up you crazy old lady!" You dodged as several cooking utensils came flying at you through the window, but sure enough she started cooking without further complaint.

You prepared a pot of each type of tea and brought them over while the other food was prepared, "Sorry about that. Granny has her personal tastes and thinks that anyone that doesn't like it the same way is wrong." The blue man laughed it off, "It's fine. You should hear how this guy talks about steak in general." You glanced at the shorter man and he was staring at you intently again. You cleared your throat and returned your gaze to the taller man, "Well...everyone has their own preferences..." It was hard to talk casually under the gaze of the shorter man.

Right then the curtain lifted and a group of older men that were regulars came in. You bowed to the two men, "Sorry, I have to look after those customers. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask."

~~~Kisame's POV~~~
The young woman jogged over to the group of old men. I could hear their voices. "Ah Y/n, lovely as always." "Seeing such beauty makes the entire day worthwhile." "Y/n you still haven't answered whether you'll go on that date with me or not."
They were somewhat obnoxious with how much they were hitting on her. They were old enough to be her grandparents. I expected her to be stern like she had been with us to start, but instead she smiled and giggled, "Oh you boys~ If you keep hitting on me like that you'll make me blush~ I can't date any of you cause people would get jealous of me, being seen with such handsome men~ Besides, Granny would be super jealous~ You all know how much she fancies you."
My mouth fell open, "Holy...is she into old guys?" Itachi sipped his tea, staring at her, "Don't be stupid. She's just flirting with them to get them to spend more money. They must be regulars, and since this place is so far removed, it's probably important to keep regulars happy so that they come back." I glanced at Itachi, "Oh...is that all...I wonder if she'd compliment me like that if I became a regular..." Itachi made no comment, choosing to sip more tea while watching the girl. It wasn't like him to show such interest in anyone. "Itachi, what's up? You've been staring at her since we came in. I know she's cute, but you don't usually pay attention to things like that. Could it be that you like her?" Itachi's gaze slid to me and his sharingan activated, showing I'd irritated him, "Stop saying repulsive things. I simply feel like I've seen her before." I jutted my lip out, "What a boring reason."
I looked back over as the girl went to the order window to drop off the groups order. She was smiling when she reached the window. She reached through the window and grabbed some plates, but her smile faded instantly and she turned slightly pale.
~~~Your POV~~~

"Oba-san, please just give me the plate." She was clutching the plate with the steak tightly in her hands. "No. I want to look the bastard that made me ruin this steak in the eye." You sidestepped to the kitchen door, your voice getting louder, "Don't you dare! He's a paying customer, so don't embarrass him!" You and her danced around as she tried to get past you and you tried to block her and take the last plate. She was fast for an old woman and she got past you. You sighed in defeat. Once she was in view of customers you couldn't try to stop her anymore. You hung your head and strode quickly to the table with the two men. Your long legs brought you to the table faster than Granny. You set the plates down and looked the tall man in the eye, "I am so sorry about what is about to happen. I tried to stop her." His eyes widened and right then the plate with the bloody steak slammed onto the table. Her voice was loud as she announced, "One bloody, dead cow, mildly heated for your delight." You pressed your hand to your forehead. "Now which one of you want this hunk of dead flesh?" Kisame hesitantly put up his hand, and she pushed it towards him, with an angry smile curving her lips, "Would you like any sauce with that, or is the blood sauce enough?" You laughed nervously and tried to pull her back, "Okay Oba-san, that's enough! Let them eat in peace!" She pulled back and gestured to the shorter man, "At least you companion likes his food cooked the way it's meant to be..." She paused as she looked at the shorter man.

Her cheeks tinted pink and she quickly straightened her hair, then batted her eyes at him, "My, my. Hello there young man." Your face went pale as you realized what she was about to do. You tried even harder to grab her and pull her away from the table, but she wriggled from your grasp each time. She'd lately started to try to set you up with anyone that she thought was good looking and looked close to your age. She planted her foot in the middle of your chest to hold you back as she rested her elbows on the table and stared at the shorter man, "So...What brings you here today, young man?" He narrowed his eyes and didn't answer.

It was obvious to you that he wasn't the type for this kind of behaviour. Your desire to pull her back got stronger, but not to save yourself from embarrassment. Now you actually feared what would happen to Granny if you didn't stop her. "Oba-san stop! That guy isn't my type! So don't harass him more than you have!" Everything stopped. The shorter man glanced at you, Granny froze and the taller man looked shocked. Granny whirled around, "Nonsense! No one I've tried to set you up with has 'been your type'. If this man isn't then tell me, what sort of man in your type? You can't just live with me forever! You have too much promise in life to just stay with me forever! So go on, tell me! What type of man IS your type?" She'd gotten in your face and had managed to turn you around so that your back was against the table. She wasn't about to let this drop. You rushed to think of an answer. Truth was that you'd never thought about romance, since you figured that no one would accept your past and love you despite it. So because of that lack of interest, you'd never really taken a look at anyone in that way, so you had no idea what your type was. Your eyes darted around and you made eye contact with the tall blue man.

If you had to choose someone in this room, your choices were between perverted old men, an ice cold man and the shark man that at least seemed to be able to talk like a normal person. "If...If I had to choose someone in this room then I'd have to say this guy." You pointed at the tall, blue man. He'd been taking a drink of tea and choked on it. The old guys at the far end of the room all stopped and stared, mouths hanging open. Granny stepped back and looked between you and the blue man. Even the shorter man looked mildly surprised. You felt a wave of anger. Sure the blue man was different looking, but that didn't give people the right to react like that. Sure you'd said it in panic, but now you were going to stick with it.

Granny stared at the blue man, "Him? Umm...Y/n, not that I don't support your choices...but why him?" You crossed your arms, your own stubbornness kicking in. You glanced at him and tried to think of reasons that would sound reasonable to Granny, "Well...he's tall...and umm...well I like that he talks to me normally. Though he does have a bit of a temper, so...perhaps not the best man for me, but certainly between these two...he's the clear choice...since the other guy hasn't...said a word other than his order...so...ummm....yeah." Your face went red as you talked. You cleared your throat and brushed past Granny, "Excuse me. I'm going to take a break." You walked straight through the kitchen and out the back door.

That was mortifying.
