Chapter 2

Claire's POV -

"Are you ready to watch the last clown show of this season ? The microphone boomed.

This wasn't a good idea. Sweat had started accumulating on my forehead.

I could sense it. Sense our doom.

I don't even know what brought us here. I don't think we are in our right minds.
I mean yeah they didn't see the clown at the merry-go-round but that doesn't mean we go after him ourselves after we saw those pictures.

The place looked exactly how a circus tent looks like. There was an arena in the middle and the stands surrounded it.

We decided to take our place on the first stand, right next to the opening so that if anything happens we could just escape. In the next two minutes, people flooded in, taking all the available seats and whoever didn't find one would stand at the entrance, blocking any chances of escaping.

The lights dimmed and zoomed at the centre of the arena.

A tiny clown came with bowling pins and started juggling them.

First two, then four, six, eight and finally ten. Once the act was finished, the tent resonated with claps. The clown beamed and then returned backstage.

The lights shut off, causing slight darkness but we could still see enough as the sunlight bounced off the tent.

About 10 clowns walked out with their heads down and a chill ran along my spine. They arranged themselves, 9 of them standing in a circle around the middle one.

The stage lights switched back on and focused on them. They were all dressed as clowns except instead of colourful wigs, they had a black top hat. The middle one seemed to wear a red one.

Hype music started to play through the speakers and they started with a routine. There dance style was a mix of robotic and hip hop.

Through out the first song, the centre clown remained in just one position.
He was crouching, his body towards us but his face was still down. The others had moved out of the circle, revealing what the one in the middle was dressed as.

He wore a suit with red stripes running horizontally throughout. A black tie. We could see the rim of his glasses but nothing more.

The next song started with creepy whistling. The clown looked up, straight at Gwen who was seated right beside me.

I could hear her gulp. A sweat drop had escaped and slipped down my back.

His smile was sadistic with fangs as teeth. I honestly hope those are false!

As if on cue with the song, his hips started swaying and he thankfully faced the other way. The rest of the clowns imitated him.

For the next two minutes, they pretty much just keep dancing like Michael Jackson. Once the song's volume starts decreasing, they too begin to go back inside but then suddenly time stops.

I mean not literally but they just halt, raise their head and shoot glares at everyone. I wish it's just part of their act and that they are not actually pissed because they look hellish.

Drums could be heard at some distance but their volumes keep increasing as if they are coming closer.

Emerging out of the shadows, there were more clowns with drums, bongos, gongs and tambourine. It sounded like we were at a fest.

The clowns who were following a routine before started to just let loose and dancing with people from the audience. It was all going really well until the red clown started furiously throwing his arms and legs right in front of our faces.

Leaning our bodies back to save ourselves from being kicked or slapped, we tried our best to shift and squirm out of that tent.

Just as we were the leaving a clown got hold of Sophie's jacket.

Why were they all behind us?

Pushing the clown back and pulling her jacket free from his grip, we fled from there.

The sun beamed high, flashing on our faces. For a second there I was nearly blinded. Clutching onto Margo, we found shade under a tree with fairy lights wrapped around it but since it was daylight outside, they were switched off.

We all wanted to get out of this damn place but we also wanted to tell people stories about our, more courageous and less entertaining, trip.

I know we are stupid to some extent but we are here to enjoy it and we'll do it.

Figuring which ride was next, our eyes fell upon a man with a ventriloquist dummy.

We had only seen them on TV, so yea we were quite excited.

There was little to no audience so it was easy for us to talk to it.

It looked old, it wore a red stripped bow tie with a black top hat. One of its eyes was painted as striking blue and the other one seemed to be pinkish in the form of a spiral. The card read his name as "Bill".

As soon as we arrived Bill said something that left me shivering.

He said, "Do they know that one of them is not returning back home?"

--------------------------------------------
That's it.

I think my brain literally fell somewhere cause honestly it's not easy to write such things without getting goosebumps yourself.

By the way Bill's photo is here :

Creepy yet charming isn't he.

Hope you like it! Please leave your feedback just to help me with these intense ideas.

Thank you!!!!
