Chapter 6
YEAR 1958
Saint is dressed in a brown khaki trousers with a white long sleeve nicely tucked in. His hair is packed nicely and neatly at the back. He is in a large green field harvesting fruits and putting them in a basket. After harvesting some fruits, He heads home taking the usual path. Almost home, he hears people shouting and he turns back and sees a tall black horse running towards his direction and his basket falls out of his hands in fear. He closes his eyes waiting for the impact.
Suddenly, he feels strong arms pull him out of the way. He spins and the arms arounds Saint's waist gently holding him firmly and close to the man. He opens his eyes and sees a firm chest enclosed in a black suit. He looks up and sees captivating green eyes staring back into him.
A man clears his throat and instantly Noah and Saint move away from each other.
"Sire, are you okay?" A man dressed in a black suit and trousers asks Noah.
"Yes, I'm fine. This young lad almost got galloped by a horse." Noah says.
Saint looks at the ground shamefully wishing the earth would open and just swallow him.
"Are you feeling fine, young lad?" Noah asks.
"Yes my lord," Saint replies seeing how he is dressed. "Thank you for the rescue, is there anyway I may be of help to you as a means to repay you for saving my life?" Saint still faces downwards.
Noah thinks for a moment but nothing comes to his mind.
"Nothing. Just be careful from now." Noah says, "Joshua, come on let's go." Noah and Joshua climb on their horses and run off.
Saint quickly rushes home realizing how much time he has spent in the woods. When he arrives at home, he looks around the sitting room painted brown with some furniture around but sees no one. He goes to his father's bedroom and gently opens the door and sees his father in the bed sleeping covered with a bedsheet which stops at his chest region.
"How long are you going to sleep? Look, I got you your favourite, blueberries." Saint drops it on a small table beside the bed and sits on the bed.
"Dad." He shakes his father gently but he doesn't move. He quickly puts his ear on his father's chest but he doesn't feel any heartbeat. He immediately places his palm on his father's chest and begins pressing it with enough energy. He breathes into his father's nostrils and mouth and continues pressing his father's chest but nothing happen.
Immediately, he runs out of the house rushing to his neighbour who is a doctor. He bangs on the door and within minutes a tanned young man wearing a lab coat with a stethoscope opens the door.
"Saint, what's the problem?" The doctor asks looking worried.
"Doctor James, It's my father, I think it's happened again. Please come quickly."
Doctor James and Saint rushes back to the house. Doctor James enters first but stops Saint who is about to walk in also.
"I need to be alone with your father. Don't worry everything will be alright."
After what seemed like hours, Doctor James comes out of the room looking sad. Saint rushes towards James.
"How's my father? Is he awake now?" Saint tries to go inside but is stopped.
"Saint, I'm sorry. I tried my best but it seems the infection spread to his heart. His dead." James replies.
Saint pushes James and rushes into the room and sees his father covered with the bed sheet till his face. He flings the bed sheet out of his dad's body. He sees how white and pale looking his father is. Tears pack in his eyes but he couldn't hold it anymlre as it flows down his red cheeks. He screams in pain realizing his father is gone forever and he wasn't there at the last moment. He feels doctor James pat his back gently.
"We need to prepare for his funeral. Don't worry I will handle everything. Your father was a good man." James says and leaves the room.
The next day, families and friends were standing around an eight feet dug ground with a brown wooden coffin in it. They are all dressed in clothes colored black.
"May Lionel Saint Hunter rest in peace, in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen." The priest dressed in black with a cross necklace says.
Saint throws a white lily flower in the pit which lands on the coffin and he walks out of the scene.
Its almost nightfall and after the burial, he bids farewell to his relations and friends. He is really tired and goes to his bedroom to sleep. Then he hears banging on the door. He quickly rushes and opens the door and sees a mid age woman with a young man almost the same age as him.
"What can I do for you ma'am?" Noah asks inquisitively.
"I hate to disrupt but I was your father's mistress and this is his son" the woman touches the young man's shoulder. "...and we have come to live with you since your father stopped sending us money and our rent is expired.
"I dont know who you are but you have no right to do this. You have the wrong house." Noah is about to close the door but the woman holds the door and opens it forcefully.
"Here, read this." The woman gives five envelopes to Saint. "And excuse us" the woman shoves Saint and walks into the house with her son.
Saint closes the door and goes to the sitting room to read the letters in in the envelopes. He opens them and sees letters written by his father because he recognises his father's handwriting anywhere. He sees lethers about how he misses the woman and the son he has with her.
He squeezes the papers and throws them on the floor.
"Your death wasn't enough pain for me and you were having an affair and had a son with her." Saint hears sounds coming from the kitchen snd he quickly rushes and sees the woman and her son eating like starved animals.
"You may have been my dad's mistress but that isn't my business because this house is in my name and I order you to get out."
"I'm Moane by the way. And I have one more letter for you." Moane walks over to Saint and gives it to him.
Saint opens it and reads it carefully and what he sees gives him the shock of his life.
"My beloved Moane and my son, Eugene are to live with Saint after my death. Prior to do this, the property ownership is to be given to Moane and her son." Saint unconsciously lets the paper fall to the ground. He couldn't believe his dad wrote this.
"Dont worry about it. Lionel's lawyer has another copy." Moane giggles. "I bet you are lonely all by yourself in this mansion. Don't worry about it. Eugene and I will make sure you never feel lonely." Moane says and shoves Saint again walking past him. Eugene walks towards him and stops in front of Saint. He caresses Saint's cheeks with his fingers.
"You're really pretty just like how our dad said."
Saint slaps Eugene's hand from his face.
"Don't you dare touch me." Saint glares at him and walks upstairs to his room to sleep.
