Chapter Sixteen

Blake watched Mary's corpse slowly clamber onto it's hands and knees. Blood dropped from it's misshapen black face, spraying the floor with crimson. The corrupted's face twisted into a deformed grin. Blake immediately reached for her weapon, but of course it wasn't there. The corrupted saw this and laughed, at least, that was what Blake thought it sounded like. "Don't worry child, I'm already as good as dead." The corrupted hissed. Blake agreed, even a corrupted wouldn't survive a fractured skull for very long. The corrupted sat and watched them, most of it's eyes where shut and mangled, except for two; one which looked lazily around and final one which seemed the only eye able to focus on the scene. The corrupted turned back to Blake. "Paladin, I have something to tell you."

The corrupted watched the humans fall silent. It's one good eye stared at the girl whom it now realised was called Blake. "The corrupted are just the first part. My master...well, my master awaits your destruction. Two of the twelve are already dead. I was supposed to take care of the leader of the group." The corrupted snarled as it stood and limped over towards Blake. It tried to open it's other eyes but couldn't, and the effort made it hiss in pain. "The others will arrive soon to pick up the princess." The corrupted continued. "You should leave before then. You will find my master in the castle, since that is the place where you humans place your leader." The corrupted stopped to await a reaction from the humans. "Why are you telling us this?" Blake asked. The corrupted chuckled, it had been waiting for this. "Because, what you will find there is much worse than dying at the hands of a corrupted." It murmured. The corrupted could feel it's strength draining. It slumped to the floor and felt it's body begin to shut down. So this was what death felt like, it thought as it's vision blurred and faded into darkness.

Blake stared at the dead corrupted for no more than a few seconds. "We need to move!" She commanded, turning to the stunned group. The howls of corrupted somewhere in the distance only helped Blake's case. Jackton grabbed Pip and began to help him out of the smashed window. Narisa and Isaac both began grabbing their bags whilst Benny ran in the direction of what Blake assumed was the kitchen to grab food. The rest of the group remained motionless. Blake couldn't believe that they were still unsure about leaving. Blake walked up to them and shouted. "Move now!"
