Season 1 Episode 4: The Beastiary

Scott trudged down the hallways, constantly snapping his rubber band. Before he left the house, he put a rubber band on and snapped it every time he felt himself going to sleep. By now, it's just a consecutive action.

Scott sighed as he rested his head against his locker, snapping the band even harder. The sound of a loud locker slam startled him out of his daze. He turned to his left to see a blank faced Kirstie.
"What?" He lazily asked.
"You didn't go to sleep last night. You look like shit and if we weren't alone out here, everyone would see your red arm healing at an excessive rate." Kirstie stated.
"I was busy." Scott sighed, opening his locker and pulling out his history book.
"Doing what?"
"Skimming through the expansive history of twenty-eight ancient supernatural and mythological serpents and serpentine creatures. And skimming alone was enough to make my brain hurt." Scott sighed, snapping the rubber band again.

Kirstie squinted at Scott before grabbing his wrist and pulling him into the janitors closet.
"What are you doi-" Scott was cut off mid sentence when Kirstie karate chopped him in the back of the neck, knocking him out cold.

She reached into his backpack and pulled out the beastiary.
"Rest up." She said, closing the janitor's closet door and turning on the overhanging light.

She plopped down next to Scott and opened the book, flipping through page after page until she found the serpentine index. She understood what Scott was talking about when he said skimming was enough to make his brain hurt. Most of them weren't even in English.

She flipped the page and read the first entry.

Weresnakes:

Weresnakes are shapeshifter with serpentine qualities and abilities. Much like werewolves. They also fall into categories based on the kind of snake they are similar to. Some weresnakes are venomous while others aren't.

In all, there are over a thousand different technical kinds.

Serpentine creatures:

There are a plethora of supernatural and mythological Serpents, but only a few are some that no one should mess with. The Hydra, Fafnir, and Ladon. All three are notorious in mythology for being vicious and threatening to civilizations.

Kirstie was completely confused by the beastiary. How could she pin what the boy was if there were tons of Serpents and weresnakes.

Suddenly, a word rang in her head.

Lyngheiõr

Perhaps if she looked into that she'd get some sort of idea. She didn't know if it had anything to do with the subject at hand, but anything was worth checking out.

She closed the book and put it back into Scott's backpack, zipping it up and letting him sleep in there.
---------

Scott woke up when he felt something poke his side. He groaned and asked for five more minutes, but it poked him again and he woke up with a grimace of annoyance.

The janitor was poking him with the mop, a confused look on his face. Scott scrambled to his feet and hastily fixed himself, dusting off his clothes and running a hand through his hair. He gave a curt nod and jogged out of the closet, leaving the school custodian completely baffled by the situation he walked into.

Scott blended into the crowd of people, searching for Kirstie. He searched and searched until he saw her walking into the library. He hastily sprinted across the campus to the library just in time to catch the door before it closed.

He opened it and saw Kirstie entering the computer lab of the library, sitting down and logging in.

Scott walked into the room and sighed, closing the door.
"Perfect. You're right on time." Kirstie said, never taking her eyes from the computer.

Scott walked over to the computer next to her and pulled a chair up. On the computer screen was a word in google.

Lyngheiõr

"Holy hell... what kind of word is that?" Scott asked, leaning closer.

Kirstie shoved Scott's face out of the way and pressed enter.
"We're about to find out." She confirmed.

Thousands of articles and Wikipedia entries popped up about the word. Kirstie clicked on the first website and began the journey.

"'Lyngheiõr. The last name of a family of monsters conceived by the mother and father of all monsters in Greek and roman mythology. Although it's meaning is still something of a mystery, it is given to the three sons of death. The youngest of which fabled to be the most potentially dangerous. The Fafnir. The first weresnake and a powerful shapeshifter.'" Kirstie quoted from the article.
"Wait. Isn't that the guy's last name?" Scott raised a brow.

Kirstie gave a slow nod. The two looked out of the window to see the boy of question talking to a group of the 'cool' clique.
"This isn't good."
------

At around one in the morning, Kirstie and Scott hid out in the woods again. If they had any hope of confirming the wild suspicion, they'd need to see it.

"Are you sure he's going to even be in the woods tonight?" Scott asked.
"If the information from the beastiary and the website were accurate, he'll come slithering at the scent of blood." Kirstie said, her eyes scanning over the dark forest again.
"I-" Kirstie shushed Scott, cutting him off.

They both listened into the almost defining silence until the rustle of grass rang through their ears. Kirstie and Scott both extended their claws and their eyes started to glow yellow. They both dove from the tree and sprinting on all fours through the forest, moving at their fastest.

The sound of rustling got faster and more frantic. The sound of a throbbing heartbeat filled the two werewolves' ears. Soon enough, they caught sight of something.

Scott was the first to lunge, tackling the thing to the ground. Kirstie stopped dead in her tracks and hopped up into a tree, spectating.

Scott opened his eyes to see a teen with a, rather thick, beard staring up at him. His eyes were wide but he didn't smell of fear.

He smelled of excitement.
"A werewolf." The boy whispered.

Scott reverted back to normal, his eyes returned to their dark blue.
"What the fuck are you doing in these woods at this time?!" Scott frantically waved his arms around.

The boy only grinned, earning a huff from Kirstie. She hoped down from the tree and landed next to Scott, pulling him off.

The boy stood up and dusted himself off before grinning wildly.
"Avi. Avi Kaplan. Supernatural enthusiast." The boy, Avi, spoke.

Both werewolves were taken aback by the bass in his voice.
"Are you a werewolf, too?" Avi asked, touching Kirstie's face.

Kirstie growled at him, her eyes glowing yellow.
"Don't touch me." She snapped.

Avi pulled his hand back, but his smile never wavered.
"I knew you guys existed! Wait till Kevin gets a loud of this." Avi started to rambled.

Kirstie slapped Avi harshly in the face before slamming him into a tree. Her fangs were showing and he claws were extended.
"If you tell anyone about what you saw, I will find you, rip out your throat, and hold it up to your face to make you watch it shudder while you gasp for air." She threatened.

Avi paled almost immediately and Scott's eyes widened.
"Okay. Okay, I won't tell anyone. I swear." He whimpered.

Kirstie growled, but dropped him onto the ground and turned around, beginning to walk away.

Scott rushed to the boy's aid, helping him to his feet and asking if he was alright. Avi nodded rapidly, but a smile crept onto his face.
"I have a proposal." He smirked.

Kirstie whipped around and glared at him.
"You don't really have any sort of place for bargaining." She growled.
"Oh yeah? How about I leave and call my friends? Tell them about this?" Avi smirked.

Kirstie's claws extended and she balled her fists.
"You fucking bastard. I could just kill you now." She snarled.
"Or you could let me in on whatever little adventure you guys are on." Avi smirked.

Scott was gawking incredulously at Avi, completely taken aback at how spontaneous mischievous he became. It was strange.
"We don't have time for this! We need to go no-" A swift blur whacked Kirstie into a tree.

Scott instantly stood in front of Avi protectively.
"Stay behind me." He said, extending his claws and his eyes glowing yellow.

He could see a swift figure sprinting through the trees.

Kirstie stood up and let out a roar, swiping her claws at the blur before sprinting after it. Seconds later, she was sent flying backwards.

Avi stood on his tippy toes to peek over Scott's shoulder. In the darkness, he could make out a slender figure with scaly skin, slitted green eyes, and two sharp pairs of fangs and claws.

Scott dove for the figure, tackling it to the ground. The figure pushed Scott off and let out a rattling hiss. The two had a stand off, the snake like creature swiping it's claws and hissing like mad.

Suddenly, Avi pounced on its back.
"Ah~!" He cried, latching into the creature's neck and not letting go.

The creature wiggles around and hissed loudly, trying to shake Avi off. It successfully threw Avi to the ground before picking him up by the neck and hissing loudly at him.

Kirstie bum rushed the creature, tackling it to the round and swiping her claws into its chest left and right. The creature seemed to be unaffected by it and threw Kirstie off of him.

Once again, Avi trying latching into the creature, but it was faster. It swiveled behind Avi and latched its mouth on his neck, shooting venom into him.

Almost instantly Avi fell limp to the ground, spazzing. Scott jumped onto the creature and punched it in the face before roaring as loud as he could.

The creature gave a hiss before sprinting away as fast as it could.

Scott instantly ran to pick Avi up. He could feel Avis temperature dropping rapidly.

Kirstie groaned and stood up, limping towards the two.
"We need-"
"We need to get him to my mom." Scott said, beginning to run with Avi in his hands towards his house.

He didn't know it, but his yellow glowing eyes were now glowing an illuminated blue. Kirstie's flickered in and out, but mostly stayed yellow.
