Chapter 5 (Erin)

"But-" Fred walked towards Delfini, and Julianne walked towards me. I felt foolish, "fighting" with Delphini. It was unprofessional, and unlike me. I had acted immature. And I let my emotions get the better of me. I need to do my best not to get off track with him.

"We will be fine. We can do some more research if we have to, and we know how to control our powers, well," I glanced over the the dolphin boy. "Except for the visions. But I'm sure we'll be able to figure it out." I had a smile, but inside I knew I would mess up! And, how could I not tell my mother any of this? I am much to young to be able to be a superhero!

Delfini managed to lift Fred up with the water onto his back, and the water disappeared into his hands. I knelt down, setting one wing on the ground for Julianne to use as a bridge of sorts to get on my back. She began walking towards me, and she ended up giving me a hug. My hands were on the floor, and she had thrown her arms around my neck. I heard a muffled chuckle, and I looked towards Delfini, who was trying to stifle a laugh. My face was most likely straight, and I saw him quickly stop laughing. I wasn't sure what to do, so I just kept still. She whispered in my ear, "I'll miss you, Uil."

"I'll miss you, too." I wasn't sure if I actually meant that, but she finally let go and got on my back, just between my wings. Delfini and I followed Fred and Julianne's directions and we found ourselves staring at a garage door that was already partially open.

"Wait! I-I want to go back, to the bedrooms." Delfini looked at me like I was insane, which I most likely was. "I want to get the books! We transformed with-it might help us!"

Fred studied me for a few seconds, which made me feel weird. I began staring at the floor. "I think she is right. It might be helpful. Oh! We forgot the phones!"

I turned my head to Julianne who was digging in her jeans pockets. She eventually pulled out a Samsung phone and handed it to me. "This is the phone that you will use to contact each other in case of an emergency. Oh! And you will have all of your powers while you aren't your superhero self."

I felt my face run cold. "I-I'll have wings?"

Julianne giggled, which I hated. "No, well, in a way. You have to summon them from their hiding. So all you have to say is 'Uil, Wings', and you will be able to get your wings. You don't have to worry about it when you have transformed, which for you, your words are, 'Uil, Owl!'"

"What about me?" Fred spoke up to answer Delfini's question.

"Same goes for you. Except, you don't have wings, you have those glide things. If you want those to come from their hiding, you have to say, 'Delfini, Glide.'"

"That is so cool, and I can control water and stuff even when I am my regular self?"

Fred looked annoyed. "Is that not what we have been telling you? Anyway, if you want to get your costume on, all you have to say is 'Delfini, Dolphin.' Do you understand?"

I looked at Julianne and faked a smile, which I had already gotten pretty good at. "We understand, but how do we get back to normal? And who has taken us?"

Julianne looked emotional. "I-I don't know, we just read it in a book-they said we would explain everything, and-" Her eyes lit up. "When you want to go back you have to say your actual name, then your superhero name. Don't do it until you both have separated."

I looked at the boy. "Are we supposed to be partners and work together or," Fred nodded in agreement. "Okay. Do you guys know how to get back to the rooms?"

"Yeah, of course!" We made a few turns, and we finally reached the hole I had made through the wall. "Ulloo!" Julianne was still on my back when I felt my wings take off in the direction of the box where I had been stuck. I saw all the owls, but I somehow knew that the one owl sitting alone in a corner was the one I had befriended. When she saw me, Ulloo flew to my shoulder.

"Nico!" The dolphin was playing joyfully with the owls. Delfini ran and stuck his hand in the bubble, gently stroking the dolphin's head.

"Will they come with us?" I was speaking to Julianne.

"In a way, they will be transferred to your appearance so you can keep their spirits in your life."

"Alright, Uil, you go and find your book, and I'll find mine." The water from the tank that surrounded us dipped down and lifted him up before dropping him. I could see him, a blur of him at least, swim around a corner with Nico not too far behind.

"I'm pretty sure I- Yes!" I bent down right next to the door where I had first seen the book. I picked it up, and handed it to Julianne. "May you please hold on to it for me?"

"Sure, Erin!" I felt my face run cold.

"Wha-"

"Oh-I, I, they told me! I'm sorry!" I turned my neck and saw the girl's cheeks were a bright red.

"It's alright, so when I want to go back to Erin, do I just say 'Erin, Come-'"

"Stop! Don't finish! Delfini can't know who you are, and you don't know when he'll be back, but yes. You say, 'Erin, Come back.'" I walked out of the box, Ulloo refusing to follow me because of the light. I jumped off the ground with the help of my wings, and I flew over the water and turned upside down so Julianne could touch the water of the tank. We flew until there was a large wall, right before a hole in the water and glass. I knew the only way I could get to Delfini was swimming, though I was in fear of getting the book wet.

"It's alright if we get wet, Delfini can just dry us, so just warn me before you go, then swim as fast a you can."

"Take a deep breath and don't let go." I heard her inhale, and I plunged into the water, feeling the water slowing me down. I was swimming, and I was very lucky the hole was nearby. I jumped out, taking a deep breath, and I could hear someone behind me doing the same. I saw Delfini standing near his dresser, the book open with his eyes searching the page. He looked down at us, and I put my arms on the edge of the glass.

"Take her!" I was coughing, I had accidentally opened my mouth, and I felt like I weighed a ton. I felt a weight being taken off my back, followed by Delfini stepping back. He set Julianne down under the blankets with Fred.

"Are you alright?"

I was trying to get out of the water, but I kept slipping. "I'm just peachy." After slipping, I could feel something wrapping around my waist and lifting me onto the carpeted floor. I turned and heard a splash of water. I tripped over my wings as I began my dangerous journey towards the bed. Delfini caught me, and held my wings up. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see his eyes flash a new shad of blue, and my feathered wings were slowly getting drier and lighter. I was finally able to lift them, and I did a little spin in the air before I ran into a ceiling fan. I fell on Delfini, who I ended up sitting on. I got off him and asked if he was alright.

"I'm fine, my neck just hurts a bit. Perhaps it would be wise of you to sit down." He smiled, and I just gave him a blank stare.

"Nope, we are getting the heck out of here! We can each look at our books at home. Come on."

"Alright." He handed Fred his book, and he made some kind of gesture with his hands. I offered my hands to the two kids, and they both held on, Julianne to my right, Fred to my left.

"How old are you?" I looked down at them. Fred answered for the both of them.

"We're ten, almost eleven." I nodded, and saw a wide smile plastered on the dolphin boy's face.

"Just step down, and you'll be in a bubble that will keep you dry." I put my hands in front of me, gesturing them to go first. They began walking, and I saw what he said was true, it was more like a bowl than a bubble, but it was still useful. The young ones got in first, then I got in, knowing Delfini was right behind me. Julianne handed me the phone.

"I forgot to give it to you, I just realized I put it back in my pocket."

"Where am I supposed to put it?"

"Put it in the little pocket on the inside of your wrist." I looked at my arm and I could see a slight hole poking from the feathers. I place two of my fingers, and realized it was indeed a pocket.

"Thanks." I took the phone away, and placed it in the pocket.

"Hey, Freddie!"

"That isn't my name." Fred sounded bored, but he had a smile on his face.

"May you please give my phone to Uil for now?"

Fred handed me the boy's phone, and the air bowl seemed to turn into an air plate. I held Julianne by the waist and walked to the point where the ceiling peaked. I flew her up and I gently set her down near the owls. I went back to get Fred, knowing Delfini would most likely do something cool with the water.

Once we were all on the ground, I handed Delfini his phone, which he put in a pocket that was placed on his waist. He patted it, then offered his hand to Julianne. "So, do you guys know where you live?"

I had my arm around Fred's neck. We were walking in the hallway, towards the garage door, or so I assumed. I was basically just following Delfini. "I'm sure they do, they are ten, not five."

"We live on 2435 Acres Rd."

I smiled a proud smile from Fred to Delfini. "Told you." I looked down at the young boy, who was much taller than his sister, and was up to my nose.

"Alright, let's get you home." We finally reached the garage, and the books were with the kids. I offered to hold Julianne, partially because she was lighter. We flew and glided, stopping at every few tree and house rooftop until we reached their house.

"You knock," I said to Delfini. We were on the front porch, debating on whether or not we should knock.

"Nope." He rang the doorbell, and pushed Fred into me before hiding on the side of the house. I gave him a rude look, then looked towards the door and smiled at the woman who greeted us. She gave me a confused look, then she saw the children. They were on opposite sides of me, and she began approaching them. I put my arms out in a protective stance.

"Fred, is this your mother?"

He nodded.

"Of course I am his mother! I have been worried sick!" I crossed my arms, and the two children ran to the woman. She sent the children inside, and her expression changed from the loving mother, to pure hatred. "Who are you?" She looked just like her children, blond hair, their faces matched, it was unmistakable her relation to the children. I looked at Delfini, who looked just as worried as I felt behind my smile.

"I-uh, I just found them wandering in the halls of, my building of employment." My glance was rotating quickly from the woman and Delfini, who was giving me a thumbs up.

"Where do you work?"

"I-"

"Why are you dressed as some kind of owl?"

"It-I, uh," My eyes were longing to look at the floor, but I looked at the light near the woman's head, my shoulders close together and my posture so terrible. "I-"

"Well? Spit it out!" That cracked me, see, as a partial introvert, I sometimes have a hard time communicating my point, and as a person with anxiety, when I am speaking to someone through my stutters and they tell me to just say when I need to say, or "use real words," I have a panic attack. My throat closed, and I was trying to form words, say something, but I couldn't. I was pushing my throat, and all I ended up was a squeak. I shot Delfini a look of distress, but he was gone.

"What's wrong with you? Where were my children?" The woman was yelling at me. My eyes were looked everywhere, the trees above us, the cars passing behind us, the sun,-My mother!

I kicked off the patio and flew in the air, heading to my own home. I felt a vibration in my wrist, and I could see warm tears begin to come in my eyes. I ignored the vibration and began screaming to myself.

"You idiot! What is wrong with you? Why can't you speak to any-"

"Hey, Uil. Are you alright?" I heard a voice above me, and I looked up to see Delfini gliding. I felt a tinge of embarrassment in my stomach, and my face went warm.

"I'm fine." You left me with that woman when it was obvious I needed backup! I wanted to yell at him, but I cleared my mind, and I could feel my eyes burn slightly, and my lips formed into what I felt was a frown. "I have to find my mother, we have at least been taken overnight, She must be worried, and it is too sunny for it to still be the same day." I dropped into a tree and pulled out my phone.

"Its September 28, Thursday."

Delfini landed next to me, "What time is it?"

"1:37."

"I have school!"

"So do I, and we have to get home. May we please meet at the park later tonight? Text me when you're at home, and I'll do the same." He nodded and we checked to make sure we had each other's phone number. I watched him as he went his separate way, and I flew into my house.

"Erin, come back!" I could feel something wrapping around my body, beginning from my wings going to my toes. I watched as a mixture of brown, white, and every shade in between, feathers get sucked into my fingers. Once those few, short moments had ended, I realized my nails were painted dark brown, light brown, and white, my thumbs and pinkies were painted with the darker color, my ring finger and index finger, matched with their doubles on my other hand was painted in the lighter brown. The white was on my middle fingers. I was back in the sari dress, my purse still across my chest. I had landed in my room, so I quickly changed into a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt, hanging up the dress. I went back out the window I had come in, and knocked on the door.

"Erin! The-"

"I'll get it, you stay there! It might just be the police."

"No!" I heard my mother's voice getting closer. "If it is-" The door opened and my mother was standing, wearing the same clothes as yesterday. She grabbed me in a hug, and I couldn't hold back the few tears.

"Where have you been? I called the police-"

"I'm fine, I was kidnapped," I had to come up with a good enough cover story. I hated lying to my mom, but I knew it was the only way to keep her safe. I remembered the book I was reading, The Maze Runner. "Some guy took me from the woods, knocked me out and I found myself in a maze. There was a boy that helped me get out, and we got out just a few hours ago, I waited for a bus, and he walked back to his house." She was holding me tightly. I saw my sister come behind her. My sister looked like my mother, she was pale, green eyes, shorter, with dark brown hair, the only difference was my mother's hair color was blond.

"Jewl!" I wasn't sure why, but Adelaide always called me that name, and I always called her "Dandelion." She was only seven, so she cam up to my elbows, almost my shoulders. She ran into me, and my mother refused to let go of me, only holding me tighter. I dropped my arms just so I could hug Adelaide.

"Hey, Dandelion. I'm sorry I'm a bit late. What have I missed?"

"I missed you!"

"I missed you, too!"

My mom let go of me and we went inside, where they fed me food and let me take a shower. I was relieved to find the house just as I left it yesterday morning, same house, brand new me. How was I going to manage having superpowers?

     Note from the Author:

I'm still working on the seventh chapter, but I am moving this project to "part-time", just because I am working on a few Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir fan-fictions, that will hopefully turn out well. I will most likely end up posting one chapter of those a week (the day will be in the description), but at least one of these chapters will come out every day. Partially because I really enjoy writing this. Also, don't be alarmed if there is no "Note from the Author" for a few of these, because I am running out of things to say. I will be posting another chapter today, so yeah. Have a good day?
