Chapter 3 (Erin)

The lights were just right, so I could see everything perfectly. I looked at the boy, wearing a one piece, rubbery gray outfit with blue hair and black eyes. He has his hands on his hips, and I could see just behind him was a small fin. He had a net type of thing under his arms, connecting his arms to his sides. He had a beach blue mask that only covered his eyes, and gray blue hair that was falling in his face dangled above it. I looked next to him and saw a dolphin, swimming around in a circle, playing in the bubble. The boy threw something at me, which I caught, but I noticed I had been lifted off the ground. I heard the flap of wings, and I looked around me, to see an owl, a light brown and white feathered one. It was flying silently next to me, almost as if it was teaching me. I realized it was showing me something, how to use my own wings. I saw the outstretched wings that seemed to be about my height each. They were gigantic. I lost my balance for a second, and I fell to the ground. I ended up falling in a water bed that kept me from dropping the the ground. I looked up at the boy, and saw he had his hand palm down, arm out, pointing at me. He gently lowered his arm, and at the same time the water seemed to be mimicking him.

"Thanks." I looked at the pin in my hands and saw it matched the owl that landed on my shoulder, heavy as a small dog, it's talons not bothering me, though I knew they were sharp. I put the pin on my my chest, or, the armless sweater thing.

The boy summoned a water board, and with his animal, he rode it so he was no longer above ground. He hopped off, and the water went back to the bubble. He extended his fingers towards my owl, who snapped at him. "Your represented doesn't like me." He smiled, rubbing his fingers.

"Perhaps the owl simply likes to be left alone, instead of bothered." The owl bowed it's head, and flew off my shoulder.

"Let's follow the bird." I was already running, so I looked behind me and saw the boy was talking to his dolphin.

I called to the owl, trying out a name. "Hey, may I please call you, Ullo?" I heard the owl hoot, so I took that as a yes. Ulloo translates to "owl" in Hindi, the most common language spoken in India. I am very proud of my culture, and I am currently learning the language, and when I go to visit my father, I do my best to practice. Ulloo stopped in front of the wall, and the dolphin began making noise.

"What's wrong, Nico?" I turned to see the dolphin, Nico, attempting, and succeeding, at moving the bubble towards Ulloo, or at least, the wall.

"Should I do the "X" thing again?"

The boy put his hands together as if he was pleading with a false smile, and a sing-song voice.  "Yes, please!"

I told the animals to move, and Ulloo sat contently on my shoulder while Nico went back to his person. I carved the "x" low enough that I had to crouch down. I stood up, and kicked the wall (which was so easy, my entire body went through), causing a burst of light to flood into the room, which made me realize how dark the room was. I turned away, my eyes blinded, and I could feel Ulloo in front of my chest, which I could feel feathers hanging down, most likely from my wings.

"Hey, little lady!" I could hear the boy's voice, and a gentle hand putting my arm down.

"I-" I put my hands back up. "I can't see! The light, it's too bright!"

"No, it isn't. You only think that because you have turned into an owl person. You and I both have turned into basically a human-type version of the dolphin and the owl. For instance, the way our eyes are formatted at this moment, your pupils are no longer changing in size, instead only staying large to adapt to the darkness of the night." He paused, and I could hear surprise in his voice. "I-I don't know how I know that-"

I stood up, my arms still covering my eyes. Ulloo flew away into the box. I turned to the boy, or at least where I thought he was. "You knew that because dolphins are very intelligent animals, with brains larger than humans. I think, I just know they are a lot smarter than humans." I heard the actual dolphin make a sound that made me think he was trying to confirm my answer.

"Uh, back to you!" I groaned, and heard a small laugh, which was quickly cut off. "How are we supposed to get us out of here if you can't see?"

I imagined my dark brown eyes, so tinted you could hardly see my pupils. I remembered playing with a light in front of the bathroom mirror, watching my eyes dilate. I realized suddenly the light wasn't as intense as before. I opened my eyes, and saw my wings were crowded around me. I lowered my arms, and my wings moved away. I looked ahead and saw the boy, standing before me with his hands outstretched as if he was worried. The dolphin in the bubble was staring as me, almost smiling.

     "What is the dolphin's name?"

The boy looked confused. "Your eyes are, brown."

"Yeah, is that terrible?" He looked uncomfortable. He was staring at my eyes, which I looked behind him and towards the ground to avoid.

"No, of course not! How did you do that?" He walked towards me, and I backed up.

"I just thought of what my eyes looked like before, and-"

I could see the boy's dark color in his eyes slowly decreasing, a layer of dark blue beginning to surround. "Like that." He was still staring at me, which made me squirm.

He held his webbed hand out to me, which I returned with a glance out of the side of my eyes. "Hello, Owl. My name is, let's call me Delfini."

"I don't really like physical contact, so," Delfini continued smiling, but I could see disappointment in his eyes. "Th-" He stepped closer, and put his pouting face.
