Chapter 2 (Soel)

"What happened?" I was looking around, and I could tell the female voice had moved. I had just fallen off a chair, tearing apart a camera that had been placed in the corner of the room, watching me. I had been ready to change into the grayish-blue tuxedo when I saw a red light flash, it was momentary, but I knew. What I saw. Should I do a recap? Hey, I'm Soel. Let's begin from the end of class, shall we?

I noticed we had two minutes left in math, so I got all my belongings together inside my big, bulky backpack. I was chatting with my friends about something, I don't even remember now. Anyways, we carried the conversation to the halls, where they felt more comfortable. One of my friends had a baseball game, but he didn't even want to go, he just wanted to make everyone happy, oh wait, no. That was me. I always spoke positively, even about things that made me think or feel, negatively. Anyways, we were talking about the game, when this girl, brown hair, pulled in a ponytail, ran into me. She barely looked up, and when she did, her eyes were searching the air for just a second, as if she was confused who she had run into. She never made eye contact, but her dark brown eyes were moving quickly.

"Ope, sorry!" She put her head back down, and walked around my friends and I. They were laughing with the fact that she had just said, "Ope". It was a thing that Toledo (a city in Ohio) grown citizens say whenever they run into something, or someone. It was only funny because they had just seen the meme in class. I turned back to my group, completely ignoring it. I said my "bye's", and "see you later", and all that other stuff. I began walking back to my house where my my father wasn't going to be until six, and I would meet my siblings at home. I walked onto my street, and saw a man heading towards me. I smiled and waved, which he returned with a smile. He was wearing a winter coat, despite the fact that it felt like it was in the seventies. He walked towards me, and put his arm around my shoulder, which made me tense up.

We were walking now the both of us, to my house, where I saw a small, black car. I heard the man whisper. "Get in, and trust me." I tried to walk away, but I noticed the man's hand was gripping my arm tightly, keeping me in place. "Don't try to run away. I know you see the car in the driveway, and if you get in willingly, I won't have to hurt you, alright?" He let go, and I saw a red spot on my arm from where he had been holding me. Knowing what was best for me, I walked to the passenger side of the small, black car. I got in, and when I got seated, I noticed the man was already putting his seatbelt on. When I reached for my seatbelt, I felt something poke my thigh before I passed out.

I opened my eyes, and found myself in a stereotypical, young boy's, bedroom. Lego's, action figures, and I realized I was laying on a bed with the Paw Patrol dogs. I sat up, and realized my arms weren't tied, but my feet were. I felt something on my mouth, and realized it was duck tape. As I untied my feet, I was licking the sticky part of the tape, until it eventually slipped off. I crumbled it up and put it in my jean pocket. I got off the bed, and projected my voice. "Hello?"

I heard a female voice, most likely in her young teens, come from the left wall. "Hello?"

Without thinking, I just asked, "Where are we?" I was judging myself, I doubted she knew if she was in the same situation as me.

"I'm not sure." I could hear strain in her voice, I had annoyed her with that comment. "What do you see?" I explained the bed, the small Lego table, and the dresser.

"What do you see?" My face was right next to the wall, or at least where I thought she was standing.

"I, I see a princess bed set, a glass tea set set on top of a tiny table, a mirror, and a fake kitchen. Just imagine a girl's bedroom when they were five, or even younger." I smiled, but kept in a laugh. She sounded a bit anxious, but she was clearly trying to hide it with the words. "I'm going to look in the closet, maybe there is something in there. You look in the drawers."

I did as she said, and opened the top drawer. Inside, there was what looked like a bunch of dark blue and green pajamas, just like ones I would have worn when I was younger. I picked them up, and looked in the mirror that was nearby. They had Mario. I threw the pajamas on the bed, and kept searching in the top drawer. I ended up throwing around ten pairs of pajamas on the bed. I finally saw a notebook on top of gray-blue fabric. I picked it up, and read the first page.

     Dear Soel,

We understand you may be confused, after all, you have always wanted to know everything, make everyone happy. Now, you must take the moment, do something for yourself, and you will be able to do something for your entire city. You must become Delfini. Put the tuxedo on, along with the mask, then find the hidden doorway, follow your instincts. Find the camera.

I looked through the entire notebook, and saw the design, it was colored in. It was a gray suit with a stormy blue undershirt. The mask that went along with it, matched the suit, with small specks of blue appearing on the edges. I could see in a corner of the page, there was a drawing of a dolphin pin, overlapping an owl pin. I shut the notebook and picked up the suit underneath the notebook.

"Uh," I didn't know her name. "Girl?"

I heard a gasp come from the wall, as if I had startled her. "They, uh." She paused, and I could hear her take a quiet deep breath. "They want me to do a costume change." I looked down in my hands, and remembered the suit that had a mask placed a top. It was so formal, why? Do they expect me to attend a fancy event?

"They want me to change as well, into a gray, blue tuxedo."

"Does it come with a mask?"

     "Uh, yeah."

"Alright. Have you looked through all the drawers?"

"No, just the top one. Why?"

I heard the girl's voice move further away, but get louder. "Get changed, then look through the other drawers!" I looked around, unknowing what I was hoping to find. I saw out of the corner of my eye a red light that was only momentary, but enough to grab my attention. "I found a door! I'm going to go through it!" The girl yelled from the other side of the wall. I nodded, as I heard a door swing open. I grabbed a chair that was sitting next the Lego table and put it next to the corner where I had seen the light. I stepped on my toes, but I was just barely too short. I got down, and began looking around, for anything that could help me. My eyes were caught on the Legos, which led me to build what looked like a strange, flat, multicolored foot. I stood back up on the chair and began tapping the lens carefully with my Lego device, just so it could fall down a bit. Once it was within my reach, I jumped and landed my my hands on the camera. I heard a yelp, and I slipped off the chair, right when I had landed on it.

"Hey, little lady! Are you alright?" I yelled from the floor.

     "I-I can't see!"

     "What do you mean?"

"What do you think I mean? The lights are too bright!"

I looked at the camera in my hands. I stood up and set it on the floor, where I began to beat it with my foot. Once that was done, I walked over to the wall, concerned about the girl. "What was the last thing you saw?"

     "I-Uh, I think I saw a book. And I saw a bunch of owls on a tree."

I went over to the dresser and picked up the pins. I realized she was given an animal, the dolphin reminded me of the suit. "What are you wearing?"

I heard the girl pause for a second. "A sari dress, why does it matter?"

"What color is it?" I yelled, just to ensure she could hear me.

"Gold and brown." I looked at the owl pin, and saw the eyes had large pupils in the middle of the yellow circle.

"What did the book say?" I set down the pins on the dresser, and opened the second drawer where I found a book about dolphins. Under the words, "The Intelligent Animals of the Ocean: Dolphins" were the words "Delfini, Dolphin."

"I don't know! Something about Owls, and Uil, owl, I-AH!" I heard a gasp come from the wall.

     "Hey, are you-"

"I swear, if you ask if I am alright I will find you and kill you." I was slightly taken aback.

     "Sorry, but what happened?

As she was speaking, I changed quickly, attaching the dolphin pin to the jacket.

"I was talking, then I felt something swirl around me. It felt soft. The lights went back to normal, and now I am wearing an outfit made of feathers."

"Can you explain what you are wearing now?" I opened the third, and bottom drawer where I found a hole, but there was what looked like a tank under the dresser.

"All I can see is brown feathers coverings my legs, body, and arms. I have sharp nails, and the skirt cape thing had a gradation of white to brown, getting darker from my waist, so it is placed on my waist with white feathers, and-What's going on?"

I had begun moving the dresser. "I. Am. Trying. To move. The dresser!" I knew my voice sounded strained, but I finally got it, and I saw a dolphin swimming happily in an uncovered tank. Without thinking, I sat down, allowing my legs to dangle in the water. The dolphin came to me, putting it's head on my lap. I smiled gently, and began petting the dolphin.

     "What's going on?"

"There is a dolphin." The dolphin dipped under the water, and I followed without thinking, only saying two words that came to mind, "Delfini, dolphin." When I went down, I felt something, wind, wrap around my body. My eye sight suddenly became blurry, but I was still able to follow the dolphin with amazing speed. I looked behind me, only to see I was wearing a rubbery gray suit, and I had flippers attached to my feet, which were moving side to side, just like the dolphin. I smiled, realizing I had turned into a dolphin person, and the girl had turned into an owl girl. I touched my heart lightly, still sensing the pin, I felt it and realized the dolphin one was missing. I slowed my swimming, and felt my body rise with the water, so I was above the tank that had widened. I peered down at a large box that was in the middle of the tank, surrounded by glass so it hadn't gotten wet. I don't know how, but I created a water bubble for the dolphin, which I named Nico, and both the bubble and I were placed on top of the box, where I could small nature. I looked over to Nico who was having the time of his life.

"Hey," I knocked on the box. "Is someone in here?" I heard the girl's voice respond, only it was lower than I remembered, and I noticed my voice was vibration, or at least that was how it sounded.

     "H-hello? How'd you get here?"

     "Funny story, actually."

"Why is your voice so weird?"

"Hold on, do you have sharp nails?"

"Yeah, I do now, but I didn't before. What-"

"Shhh," I spoke to her in a calming voice. "I just need you to trust me, and carve an "x" into the wall, alright? Not one that goes into the bedroom though." I could see where the box connected to the wall.

"Uh," I heard wings flapping, most likely from the owls. I removed the owl pin from my suit with webbed fingers, like a frog. "Okay. Now what?" Her voice sounded harsh, emotionless.

     "Do you trust me?"

     "I can't trust someone I don't know."

"Well, then you are just going to have to make an exception for me and run into the "x" you just carved."

I smiled, but a strained one, and I gave Nico a look like, "Do you think she'll do it? Let's be hopeful!"

"Are you insane? What if-" She was cut off with a crash. Although I was far enough away that nothing bad could have happened to me, I still shielded my face with my arms. When I removed them, I saw a girl, standing to the right of me, looking around, confused. It wasn't until that moment when I realized just how dark it was.

"Perhaps," She darted a look towards my direction, making eye contact. My vision was still a bit blurry, but I knew what I was sensing were vibrations. I continued without a beat, "I am insane, but it got you out of that box, didn't it?" I could barely see her, but I when I inched closer, I saw she had large, dark brown wings sticking from her upper back. She had a mask that was brown, but had some white specks that were thicker towards her nose, eventually fading out on her forehead. Her long hair had brown ears, owl ears, sticking out, the edges a shade of black, it was hard to say, for it was too dark. She was shorter, but her feet had heels. And she did indeed have a skirt cape, thing. Across her chest, creating a straight neckline, showing not even an inch of shoulder was a sweater that was a light brown, ending at above her elbows. Her skin was tan, more so then mine, like the color of clay.
